Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, all right, all right, yes.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Yes, indeed you are the author of your story, of
your journal.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
In this journal, you will get to know yourself better,
and who better to get to know?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
This week I returned for the most incredible trip through Europe,
trip I have never done in my life. You can't
imagine how great it was. The history from the books
we read came to life in front of our eyes,
and the go kart track on the cruise boat was
good too. Italy was grand, Athens beyond belief, Turkey foreign
in every way, the south of France breathtaking. But I'm
left grateful, Grateful that my grandparents left us the resource

(00:37):
to do this trip, Thankful my parents chose to use
that money this way and didn't spend it on themselves.
Honored that my seventy six year old father found the
street to keep up despite his embattled prostate, even though
the cobbled streets of Pompeii at forty two degrees did
to make it easy.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Ask I hated wild He knows all about that.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Yeah, indeed, amaze it the way my mother planned the trip.
My young kids may not remember this adventure, but I've
already seen them build Rezis alliance and turn from toddlers
to little people and happy to be home. Throughout the trip,
we didn't blow thirty five degrees and the crowds were
frantic and the city's choked. We left the Dubai desert
at a throat drying forty three degrees to a liveable

(01:15):
sixteen degrees in Auckland. The fresh air, the space, the
familiar accent. The world is wonderful. But don't forget just
how lucky we are right here in God's own.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Can I just say quickly that was lovely.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
I saw the growth in your girls because I went
to school pickup yesterday and they were basically like, hey, Tony,
what's up?

Speaker 1 (01:33):
And it's like whoa I speak now?

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Now?

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Hi journal.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
On any given day, we can see all kinds of
sad headlines in the news. Some are horrible, some are tragic,
Some make you question where some parts of society is heading.
But one of the saddest I read this week was
about the declining sales of Champagne and the reason why
the sales are down is due to and I quote,
a lack of joy in the world, and they really
bummed me out. I know times are tough for finances
and family preces and job cuts and the cost of
pretty much everything going up, the lack of time to

(01:59):
get things done, even the fact that we're in the
depths of winter. But I also like to look at
things class are full. So winter means falling asleep to
the sound of rain, nature's lullaby. Yesterday's might be wheat
and cold at the moment, but they're also getting longer.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Summer is on the way.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
There are some incredible stories of courage and comebacks all
through the Olympics. Right now, the second season of Cold
from Accounts is on. It's not only brilliant, it's free
on TV and Z Plus. It's the funniest thing on
TV right now. I love that show. It might also
even mean it's a song on the radio. How lucky
are you that you happen to be listening to the
radio at that time that song came on. I'm a
big believer in the thought that the more you celebrate,
the more you'll have to celebrate. So pop that cork

(02:34):
and raise that glass to you, my friend. There's nobody
else like you, and you're worth celebrating.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Oh thanks, Jay, So I love that you're encouraging you
around to drink this weekend.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Could be fine, well, pop a little something whatever. Also,
just on the Olympics.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Every single time I sit down to watch it, I
turned to my husband and all the kids and go,
how good is the Olympics?

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Isn't it pure joy? Like I just relished.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
That's fantastic.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Yeah, dear journal.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
It's the same feeling every year around this time for
winter sports coaches, isn't it.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
This is my sixth year and counting.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
So I'm speaking from experiences where in the trenches and
the mahi is tough. If you're with me in this,
I want you to know that I get it. Those
trainings and games and the whipping wind and the rain.
The athletes and kids themselves are tired and scratchy at
this point of the season, and you bear the brunt
of it. Particularly if you're coaching cormonal girls like me.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
You're also weary yourself.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
That immense enthusiasm that you brought into the season is
being tested hard. The relentless schedule is only ramping up
with into school zone days, tournaments and player development. And
don't even start me on the juggle with other codes
and activities. Not to mention the spreadsheets of game time,
player of the days, ride shares, arranging umpires, managing parental expectations,
the gazebos for the rain, and how to sneak in
that extra practice before the playoffs. Just as it feels

(03:49):
like it all becomes too much and you profess to
your partner, I'm not sure I've got the energy for
this next year, one of your charges does something amazing.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
They actually do what you.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Taught them, That one beautiful accept a glorious shot on goal,
That sublime pass will even better. They offer to carry
the ball bag, and suddenly, against all odds, you find
yourself still awake at ten PM planning their summer training,
and say, that's.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
A little snapshot of our week, hopefully for a nice one.
Either way, the weekend is even better for you. Tony
