The Coast Breakfast Bonus Podcast with Tony Jason Sam.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Hi, thanks for listening to our Breakfast Bonus podcast. Today,
Tony and I are joined by the wonderful Stacey Morrison,
a broadcaster with a massive experience. We used to watch
her on What Now back in the day, and she's
written books and she's actually truly one of our favorite people.
And she's hosting a new TV series with her husband, Scotty.
And Stacey joins us for a chat on this podcast
and enjoy now you have been hosting this with your
beautiful husband, Scotty. You're not gott a crush on how
(00:25):
I'll tell you more about this.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Shortly, everyone here's a crush on Scotty?
Speaker 4 (00:29):
Yeah, tell me something I know? Right?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
So, this the new season of National Treasures that returns
to TV's He Won to Night. Halp ost seven tells
us who we are and how we got there.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
But it's not museums, a no, no, it's actually not
even based in the museum. Probably all of us have
got something in our house that we go, oh, and
this is the story of when Auntie so and so
did this and this. So that's what it is. Usually
people bringing in keepsakes, and it's the way that we
treat and regard things that actually make them tongue or
make them special treasures to us. And I really like that.
(01:01):
It could be a wheelbarrow and that talks about the
student army and what they did after the christ Church earthquakes,
you know, So it doesn't have to be a trophy,
but it's a way of going, Okay, this is our
real human experience of New Zealand history and most importantly
valuing the fact we do have a rich history and
it can be recent and it can be ancient.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
What would be your national treasure at your house? You
and Scottie, Oh my goodness, you'd have heaps I reckon
what we do.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
But like saying, Scott yeah, now, I think say one thing,
my queer. My grandmother gave me this coin that was
created a certain year and it was like put in
gold and all of these like an amazing waka treasure.
But I said to my cousins, I go, I'm holding
(01:48):
it for all of us and not it's not just mine,
because I didn't want to be that cousin. You know,
we all version of shits creed for whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Cousin.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
So I mean, there's things like that. I guess the
story behind how you acquire anything, Like Scott has got
an amazing Greenstone media that was gifted to him a
year after he lost a father figure that was really
important to all of us. In the way that it
was gifted to him was incredible. So yeah, it can
be as simple as I love that cheer that was
my mum's chair and then I recovered it. But these
(02:20):
ones are of national significance. And that's why we because
there's an a TV show, there's a there is and
so the episode with Thingy, Thing, he's in there and
thing he hasn't aged at all, great skin, no.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
Otherwise.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
So Singhy's son and a partner, they come in and
talk about Al, who was sorry, I just to go
behind the scenes. He was actually a puppet. And so
Al who was an amazing man behind Thingy they talk
about him and it's very emotional and you know, he
was someone I adored to Actually he's amazing director and cool.
(03:00):
So those stories have then, I guess with a little
bit of time, you can go Thingy meant a lot
to us. You know, we race home from school and
watch you know, the Son of a Gun show and
there's thingy and it's like you'd never tell that was
just a guy putting on his voice.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
It wasn't he amazing and multi talented.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Too, speaking multi talented husband Scotty Ya, we go way back.
We used to wear cars, Magnum and Phantom as cars.
Used to have love those cars. But he's done something
in the series again. He's gone diving with the Rainbow Warrior.
Is that right?
Speaker 4 (03:31):
Yes, so the wreck of the Rainbow Warrior and they
said to him, so, have you got your diving ticket?
He said, yes, that part is correct. They said when
did you last dive? And he went last year. They
didn't ask where he was diving. It was in our
pool because he was teaching the kids how to dive
during COVID.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
So when did he actually last dive?
Speaker 4 (03:51):
Then, oh, like years, years and years ago, like it.
He probably shouldn't have done it, but he's very proud
of the fact he used less less oxygen going around
the Rainbow Warrior than the master diver they were with.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
So he's just got the diving gene.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
Then, yeah, that's not me, but it's really incredible footage
and what was he what was he doing that for?
Do we well, I guess for one thing, people said
to me, wait, can you dive the Rainbow Warrior? And
so they kind of use it to talk about the
story of how do we protect ourselves, you know in
terms of nuclear testing, what was our story at that time?
And the Rainbow Warrior if you don't know, like what
(04:28):
happened and we're at rests now and what is the
impact on environments? See and know things that we can
see and things that are underwater as well. So he
got to do a lot of fun things like that.
He was on the road guy and I was, you know, hosting,
helping people cry. There's a lot of emotion in this series.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
So did you actually do you actually host together in
the series or you doing your secret stories?
Speaker 4 (04:49):
No separate stories? Okay, it works better for the kids. Yeah,
he was off for weeks. It's flying planes and diving
and skiing, which is not very good at you know,
like sort of imagine a camel trying to ski is
one thing.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
Yeah, the one thing, the one thing.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
It's National Trees. It just started on tvings in one
half past even tonight and perfect too because you know,
to wiki or to do a Malorti week two. So
I'm nummy here and thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
So we use a little bit of malory, but basically
we just look at the whole breadth of this beautiful
country and all of our national treases.
