Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, all right, all right, Yes, indeed you are
the author of your story, of your journal. In this journal,
you will get to know yourself better, and who better
to get to know.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Well. It's very hard to explain that this is a
work trip.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
It simply doesn't matter that we start eacht at five
and finish at ten pm at night.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
It's relentless, but no one cares, and rightly so.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
I travel with three incredible workmates, and now you can
add Teresa and Grace to that.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Two live wires.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
We're filmed in castles, sunflower sells fields, the Hamptons and
Times Square and a field of glowing pumpkins for Halloween,
and all in just the first three days. My wife
thinks we're on holiday, Our boss thinks for on holiday.
But I can assure you it's not a holiday. But
in terms of working, I don't think it's possible to
get any better than this.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
The men before me worked.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
With very different lives and women, but all three of
us have worked in mess My granddad was a welder,
my dad was a roofer, and I am merton.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
Bum very nice, I do. They say, I don't really
know someone until you travel with them and over the years,
I've been lucky enough to travel with my good friends
and workmates and those I consider family Tony and Sam
and now Rosier producer too, and I.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Still love them to bits.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
On this very special work trip, which is a work
trip by the way to New York, though, I got
to know myself a bit better. And as Matthew McConaughey
would say, who better to get to know? In all
the years, I've never really been able to fall asleep
on planes, and I have so much admiration for those
lucky souls who are able to sit down, strapper in
and nod off.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
I've even tried taking sleeping pills and malatonin and they've
never really worked. On this trip, however, I experienced a
whirlwind of emotion. First off, I somehow got an invitation
to the in New Zealand Lounge, then it got revoked.
Then I gained exes again standard I know I don't
fully understand. Then my good friend. I watched my good
friend get upgraded to business class as I turned right
(02:00):
to find my seat, but then I way to.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Tell people again.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
But then I looked down and noticed something on my
boarding paths that said skycouch, which means I was able
to turn a row of seats into a bed, yet
another miracle I don't quite understand. And on this trip,
for the first time ever, I fell asleep on a plane.
So the lessons I've learned, I've learned to believe in miracles.
I've learned to never give up hope. And I've also
learned that sometimes a little moment happens and it's like
life saying surprise, here's a fun part, here's a fun twist,
(02:27):
here's a plot twist, and a free imask. You never
stop believing that anything can happen. Yeah, it's probably going
to be a one timer, but good on you. Jay
Dear journal.
Speaker 5 (02:38):
Gotta love a theme and an occasion, whether it's watching
a sports game, celebrating Christmas, Easter, or Halloween. But I
think when it comes to celebrating we can learn something
from the Americans. You see, they don't do things by halves.
They're all in. They're passionate, and that's such an admirable quality.
As Kiwis were inherently understated, we don't like to overdo
it or appear to be overly invested or going the
(02:59):
extra mark.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Well I'm sure why that is.
Speaker 5 (03:01):
Perhaps it's we're scared to be to be ourselves, or
that we're going to be embarrassed, or maybe it's fear
of tall Poppy syndrome, which is alive and kicking. But
I think we should rethink this mentality, you know, the
saying you get out what you put in. Here in
the States, you can see that investment in spades, and
it's wonderful to be on the receiving end of that.
Whether that's the excitement over food, the locals telling us
(03:22):
how wonderful pumpkin season is with their families, the love
for the local area going all out for every holiday season.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
It's passion personified.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
And I'd much rather see that and be part of
that than holding back the joy.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
Oh. I love that it's a sniple of our last
few days. Hope you've had a really nice weekend. Either
way you're weak, it is even better. Thanks for listening.
