The Coast Breakfast Bonus Podcast with Tony Jason Sam.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Thanks for listening to our Breakfast Bonus podcast. Big news
out today that every single Graham Norton show across New
Zealand had sold out. So Graham Norton gets hold of
us and says, do you Reckon? I can do a
couple more? Yes you can. So he's gone and done that.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
We see, okay, Gee you can do?

Speaker 4 (00:17):
Is what are you like here? That's right?

Speaker 5 (00:19):
Gee said.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Anyway, I have to celebrate with all we bring up
to speed with the chat we did have with Graham Norton.
You told us that you were eating a Scotch dig
on your way home from the supermarket, and you begged
us not to tell you your husband. So we've we've
kept the secret. It didn't get out of Hope.

Speaker 4 (00:36):
I think that did end up in the press.

Speaker 5 (00:40):
It certainly ended up with the press here.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
I remember that it was great. But we thought, like,
if you're.

Speaker 6 (00:45):
Going to get into a little bit of meat when
you shouldn't, there's nothing better than a Scotch dig. Though
it is it a regular thing.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
They really are lovely. What I love about the miss
They're so mysterious. I have no idea. How you would
make a Scotch egg, only one with a runny yoke?
How do you that?

Speaker 5 (01:00):
Well, that's that's ridiculous.

Speaker 6 (01:02):
Come on, hell, how can it be? Don't you just
wrap an egg and some and some would if.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
You think about it. Yeah, if it's a soft spoiled
egg and then you deep that fry it? How come
it doesn't cook? Not have this?

Speaker 6 (01:17):
Have you never considered the bumble esca, which is effectively
fried ice cream?

Speaker 5 (01:20):
That's just from a guy that doesn't cook anything.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
So speaking of speaking of someone who does, though, how
good friend Nigella lawcense she was beriffed when she ended
your latest book, Frankie.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
So I think I mean she was sad it was over.

Speaker 7 (01:39):
Oh my god, No kind of like, oh my god,
I held him a favor reader. No, no, no, so brilliantly
and in high praise for such a wonderful woman to congratulations.

Speaker 4 (01:50):
No, I mean it was really nice. This book, Frankie,
seems to be landing a bit different. People seem to
be really keyed on it. I mean, I've got away
with it, so are this is book five? But this
one people do seem to be enjoying it a bit more.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
Yeah, Hang on a minute, you say this one HiT's different.
All your others are best seller sellers and winning awards everywhere.
Don't try and tell us that the others weren't good.

Speaker 6 (02:12):
But why is it heading differently? What's different about it?

Speaker 4 (02:15):
I don't know. Here's the thing. Maybe it's better. I
don't know. I mean, it is the fifth one I've written,
and I you know, you hope that. I think the
plan is you might get better at these things, So
maybe this one is better. I don't I'm I'm not sure.
I do like writing from a female perspective. Most of

(02:37):
my books aren't told that way, and I think it's because,
you know, women are there are more interesting, you know.
I think the way women live their lives is more nuanced. Boys.
You know, boys are a bit a bit like dogs
in that way. You know. Can I eat it or
you know you putting know the rest of that? Take

(03:00):
love to it? Yes, yeah, as far as we go.
Whereas I think, because women are dealing with those men,
they navigate life in a much more interesting way, and
I find that more interesting.

Speaker 5 (03:15):
That's remarkable. How many years has it taking you to
come to that realization? Because I know a lot of
men who haven't.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
Well, honestly, I do think being gay helps because then
I'm also dealing with men, you know, so I think
no one of us.

Speaker 6 (03:31):
Do you think that we haven't evolved in that perspective?
Do you think we're still stuck in the stone ages
of meaning in the way they communicate?

Speaker 4 (03:38):
No, I think I think men wash now in a
way that maybe they didn't before.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
But that's why I'm kind of taking on the criticisms,
to be honest, because to be honest, I'm not a
great communicator and I haven't washed so that you go.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Okay, So sorry I was I was overstating the case.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
You were right the first time ten years ago you
won like the best selling book in Ireland. Here you
are ten years later with your fifth book, Frankie. It's
bright blue, you can't miss. It's got Frankie on the
cover and the words Graham Norton, by the way, so
have all it is there. It is congratulations.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
Sam's coffee looks really on red, but he's really well
on that cover. I will get there. It's a way
to do list.
