Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Tuesday, Q and a day time for the fifth Thing.
I am the host, your host, however you want to say,
of the podcast for Things podcast, and every Thursday I
talked about four different things. And then I've got an
email address four Things with Amy Brown at gmail dot
com where questions get submitted and I circle back with

(00:21):
you every Tuesday to answer some of those questions. So
make sure you send leman. I'm loving that you are
putting fifth thing or question for the fifth Thing in
the subject line because that really helps like sorting through
what to pull for episodes like today. And you know,
I just got back from Austin. I was there this
past weekend for I Heart Country Festival, which was amazing.

(00:41):
By the way, if you ever have an opportunity to
go in your country music fan, it is so much fun.
But another benefit of me going back to Austin is
that's where I'm from, born and raised, and my dad
is there and he is still recovering from cancer surgery
that went down last summer and cancer treatment. He went
through chemo radiation. As right now he's cancer free, hallelujah.

(01:02):
But the journey has been quite the process, and I
thought I would just share a little, tell me something
good at the beginning of this Q and A, because
I realized when I was hanging out with him this
weekend that the day of his surgery, I put a
post up on Instagram and it was June two, eighteen,
and I posted a video of us dancing that had
been taken, you know, somewhere in that time frame, and

(01:24):
I was like, thanks for the thoughts and the prayers.
Dad's surgery went well. He should be up in dancing
in no time, because that's what we were told to expect. Well,
that did not happen, and he spent weeks and weeks
and weeks and I see you spent months in the hospital.
He can't really be alone now, lives with a caregiver,

(01:45):
caretaker whatever, and he's probably going to be moving to
Nashville to move in with me, which is a drastic
change because he was so independent. Like he is turning
seventy eight this month, but he was a young seventy
seven year old when everything went down, um, when he
had the surgery, probably like early sixties maybe, I mean, moved,

(02:06):
still working every day, like, had a girlfriend, which I
guess they're still kind of dating, but I mean One
of their big things was was she's very social and
she loved having like a companion to go to all
of her events in Austin. And my dad's been down
for the count for ten months, so he hasn't been
able to go to any events with her, so they
haven't really gotten to date, but they still hang out.
When we went over to her house and hung out

(02:28):
this weekends, it was super cute to see them together.
But you know, it's just been it's just been quite
the thing. And he has not been as mobile as
he used to be, just mentally cognitively not the same.
But I will say this weekend he seemed pretty sharp,
talked a lot about sports, knew everything that was going on. Bam.

(02:48):
He just seems so fast. And I don't know if
it's like really that he's that faster. He's just faster
than he was, which is still progress. But anyway, back
to my Instagram post to you guys, I rambled, but
I had put up on the day of a surgery.
You know he'll be up and dancing at no time. Well,
ten months later, fast forward, he finally seemed like well
enough to where he could like move and actually dance

(03:08):
with me. So I thought of that post out of nowhere,
and we were hanging out, so we just went to
the grass right there and we did a little dance.
We two stepped in the Texas grass and it was great.
We didn't even have music, but it was so cute.
In the video, he kind of like pushes me back
to turn me and he's like I still got it,
and I'm like you do. And so this is just

(03:28):
I share this story as like to not lose hope,
because there was so many days where I felt like
I was looking at my dad laying in the hospital
bed with a track in a feeding tube and just
totally not the person that I once knew, and I thought, well,
this is it, this is our new life, like this
is as good as it's going to get. And that
was negative thinking. I'm not saying that's how I thought
all the time, but sometimes you can't help but half

(03:49):
those thoughts. But he worked hard. We all kept the faith,
we had hope, we prayed for him, He persevered. His
strength and tenacity has amazed me. He works so hard,
still has his feeding too, but he's finally taking teeny
tiny little bites of mashed potatoes, which is awesome because
he's it's helping him work on those muscles that help
you swallow. So hopefully he can get rid of this

(04:10):
dang feeding tube because for someone like my dad, like
food is his love language. Um. But anyway, I just
thought I would share that, like a little tell me
something good before we get into the Q and A.
And if you want to go check out my dad
dancing on Instagram. I put the old video up and
the new video up in a post and it was
on Sunday. I think that I posted it, so my
Instagram is at radio amy. It's just a huge shout

(04:32):
out to my dad and how hard he has worked
to gain his strength back, and you know, because it
takes a lot of physical therapy and a lot of
determination and putting his mind to it. He was not
going to stay where he was. So I'm so proud
of him and I can't wait for him to just
keep getting better and better and better. So if anybody
else happens to be in any sort of similar situation

(04:53):
or anything where you feel like this might be, it,
just half faith, keep the hope it can change and
it can get better. Okay, So onto the questions. The
first one is from Kristen. Hey, Amy, can you put
the things you used to shave your face on your
Amazon page? So? Yep, Kristen, I added it. I didn't

(05:15):
realize I didn't have those up there. But what I
use is the tinkle eyebrow razor. Now you might be
thinking eyebrow what, but yes, it's for your face and
you can use it to just shave your face. And
if you're like what, I'm a new listener, you shave
your face? Yes, I do, and I've done a podcast
about it. You can go back and search for previous episodes.
I didn't look that up. Shoot, I can't tell you

(05:35):
all which one it is, but um, yes, oh, Velvet's
Edge she if you go to Velvet Edge dot com,
she has a whole thing about face shaving. So it's
pretty it's pretty fantastic. I highly recommend that your skin
will feel so good again tinkle eyebrow razors, and it's
on my Amazon page, which you can find my Amazon
page at Radio Amy dot com. Next question is from Calie.

(05:57):
I have recently been trying to do intermit and fasting
and was so sided you discussed it on your podcast.
I was wondering though, Um, how you enjoy your eyes
Macha latte's because do you still drink it in the
mornings during your fast or do you wait until you're
done fasting to have one. I've read many different things
and I just wanted to get your opinion and advice.
I apologize if you mentioned this in the podcast. My

(06:18):
almost two year old hasn't quite learned what her inside voices,
so Kellie, I totally get it. I missed a lot
of things because my kids are talking. But um, I
don't know if we touched on that. But I consume
my Macha latte whether I store hot pretty much after
the twelve hour fast. Like I've gone, I've hit the
twelve hour window almost. If not, I'm close to it.

(06:40):
Because the almond milk that is in there would break
the fast. I think if I was just drinking straight
Macha tea with hot water, I don't think it would
break the fast. But since I have the vital proteins
in there and the almond milk that is considered breaking it,
I think so. But normally I quit eating Hey dinner

(07:00):
at like five and then I might have my Macha
at like six am or so, so that that clears
me or if I decided to have it at five am.
But you know what I mean, Like I, I go
the twelve hours. So that is my recommendation if you
can make it the twelve hours. For women, it's twelve
hours for minute sixteen And that was last week's UM

(07:20):
podcast episode with Adam Bobo. He talked about intermim fasting
and how long you should go in between your meals.
So for but again, my Macha lat is not my meal.
I should reiterate that in case you're just like, you're like,
what that's that's how you break your fast? Do you
have any food? And yes I do, but I just
have the macho latte as my source of caffeine and
a little bit of the vital proteins and plus it's

(07:42):
just yummy to sip on. Next question is from Susan.
We share the same love for Jesus and George Straight.
Where can I find the shirt you wore at the
Heart Country Festival? Love your podcast, Hope to meet you
and Mary one day if there's an a Splat event
in d C. Keep up the great work on everything
you do. We appreciate more than you know. Thanks Susan
for the kind words and Mary and I actually would

(08:03):
love to do in a squat event d C, so
definitely keep an eye out for that. And then that
Jesus and George straight shirt is so cute, but a
listener actually sent it to me and I cropped it.
It was like a normal T shirt, but I cut
it to make it a cute little crop and I
wore it with a skirt this weekend and I got
more compliments on that shirt than I have in a

(08:23):
really long time. And I think between that and my
cool mom hoodie, I mean, people comment on my cool
mom mom hoodie all the time, like all the time.
They're like, oh, I love that, and I'm like, oh,
I wasn't expect and then you feel weird because you
looked down at it, says cool mom. And it's almost
like awkward to say thank you because it's like you're
bragging that you're cool. And then they just complimented it.

(08:44):
And I always want to say something like, oh, my
kids got it for me, but then well they didn't.
I got it for myself because I got it from
a Spua actually very and I made it, so um, yeah,
I can't blame it on my kids or someone getting
it for me. As a gift. But anyway back to
the Jesus and George straight, I didn't know where to
find it, but I just googled Jesus and George Strait

(09:05):
T shirt and some similar options to when I was
wearing came up. So it looked like Etsy and was like,
there was one on eBay, So you may be able
to find it, Susan if you just look it up
and you can find one that's similar to mine. And
Mary and I were talking like, oh, should we make
a Jesus and George Strait shirt and have it benefit something?
But then we didn't know if we would need George

(09:25):
Strait's permission. I guess other people aren't quite worried about that,
but we try to follow the rules and yeah, I
don't know. Maybe it'll be something that we look into
because George Strait does have a foundation, so the Mary's like, well,
maybe it could benefit his foundation. But everything is Squaw
that we do is for Haiti, so they're like, I
wonder if George Strait has any things that he likes

(09:47):
to support in Haiti and you'd want to partner with us.
I don't know. Next question is from Emily. Hey, Amy,
I bet you get this question a million times, but
what brand of sauerkraut do you buy? I totally trust
that you've done your research on which is the best.
I did check on your Amazon page, didn't see it there.
I love your podcasting, your four things, So thanks for
the email, Emily. And yeah, I don't have sauerkraut on

(10:09):
my Amazon page because it's refrigerated, so I don't know.
I don't really have. Everything that I get on Amazon
is either for like my pantry, like nothing for the refrigerator.
But I buy Farmhouse Culture and they have it at
grocery stores in my neighborhood. Um, these little health food stores,
and then I know Whole Foods carries it. Other grocery
stores might have it, but it's Farmhouse Culture. I just

(10:31):
get their original and it's so good and it's just
fermented cabbage. That's what sauer kraut is. But you want
to watch if there's any other crazy added ingredients. Um,
but it's really good for your gut. And I know
that that brand is great. But Kimberly Snyder, who is
who first got me onto eating fermented vegetables for your gut,

(10:51):
has a recipe and she calls. She calls it the
probiotic an enzymes salad. So if you just look up
Kimberly Snyder probiotic an enzymes salad, she has a recipe
up where you can ferment your own cabbage and make it.
I don't trust myself to make it, but it does
seem pretty simple, so I'm sure you are smart enough
to do it, and you are careful enough to where

(11:14):
you would get it right. But again, Farmhouse cultures what
I buy at the grocery store, but there's other brands
that are good too. I would just you know, do
a quick Google search to see like really healthy um
fermented cabbage. That's how I put I don't or sour crow.
You can do that, but you just don't want to
end up with some crazy style crow that's like really
high and sodium that's meant for like some amazing hot

(11:34):
dog or something. That's not the goal. You want the
fermit to veggies like the healthy stuff. Next emails from
Sharon Love listening to on your podcast and on the
Bobby Bones Show. A quick question I have is where
can I find the most comprehensive angiogram test source online?
Free or not? There are just so many sources. I

(11:57):
wanted to see if you had any recommendations, so share
and I got this email and reached out to Inniogram Hunter,
who comes on the podcast to talk the iniogram. His
name's Hunter, but inniogram Hunter is his Instagram handle, and
I had him send me the answer to give you. So,
in his opinion, tests aren't great, so he suggests people

(12:17):
do the following. He says, read the brief descriptions of
all nine types on the Intiogram Institute's website, which is
instagram Institute dot com. Or read the longer descriptions in
road Back to You by Ian Kron. I think I'm
saying his name right, but the book is called road
Back to You. Intagram itself is an oral tradition tool,

(12:39):
and it's best for you to get the info from
all nine types either by listening to descriptions or reading
descriptions and then self identify. But if people really want
to take a test, Hunter says, the best one is
the R H E. T I test That is also
on the Iniagram Institute's website, which again is antygram Institute

(13:00):
dot com. So Sharon, hope that helped. And if you're
listening to this right now, and you're like, what the
heck is the Instagram? Uh, It's it's just a it's
another way. It's a personality tool. It's another way to
understand basically why you are the way you are and
others around you, and you can use it to help
better your relationships, whether personal or professional or whatever. Next

(13:22):
question is from Brooke. I've been a Bobby Bones show
listener for years. Love your podcast. Thanks for sharing all
of your advice this week. I was wondering if you
followed a budget for your finances. If so, how do
you stay on track? If not, maybe you could interview
someone in the financial industry to talk about budgeting. Any
help is appreciated. So, Brooke, way back an episode seven,
see this one I looked up, so I was prepared.

(13:44):
But episode seven, I have a interview with um Rachel Cruz,
which is Dave Ramsey's daughter, and uh so if you
go back to that episode, you'll find um make your
bed like a Navy seal. We discussed that, We discussed
real listic health goals, and then we also talk about
budget for freedom, which that's with Rachel Cruz, and then

(14:05):
some self care tips. So that's a solid episode if
you ask me, because if you're not making your bed
every day, you were missing out. And I it has
changed my life. I used to not be a bedmaker.
I used to press this news button every day, multiple
times a day, and I used to not make my bed.
Now I don't press news. Now I make my bed
and it's a total game changer. But back to the

(14:27):
budget question, Rachel Cruise was actually on twice, so I
think she was on maybe the episode before that, one
episode five or six, maybe talking about budgeting for Christmas shopping,
and then she came back on to talk about budgeting
for freedom and like setting goals for the new year.
So I'll try to have her back on and maybe
she has some more I mean, I guess Rachel Cruz

(14:49):
being Dave Ramsey's daughter and Dave, I mean they have
financial tips school or so maybe one day I could
get Dave on who knows? Next question is from Lisa, Hey,
Amy loved the show in the podcast, I feel like,
do I really have to I don't know why I'm
reading like the whole part. I should probably just delete
that and get to the question because y'all don't need
to hear me be like, hey, me love the show.

(15:09):
But anyway from Lisa, she said, on an episode, you
mentioned a book you were reading for help with periods.
Have you finished the book? Did it help? I'm currently
having issues and looking for something I can do, So Lisa,
it's called Woman Code. That's the book, and I have
not finished it, but it is something I want to
circle back to. So I'm glad you sent the email
because I want to diggle a little bit deeper into it.

(15:30):
I loved what I was reading when I was into it,
and one of my friends that did it said it
helped her, like it was a game changer. So if
you're not familiar with Women Code, it's basically the gist
of it is it says woman Code perfect your cycle,
amplify your fertility, supercharge your sex drive, and become a
power source. So basically it's written by a holistic health

(15:52):
coach and she shows women how to maintain health and
vitality with a food based program to rebalance hormones, which
is basically what all boils down to is our hormones
and food can really affect that. So there's certain times
of the month where like in the book, it will
say if you want salmon, you should have it on
this time of the month, during this week because this

(16:15):
is what's happening with your cycle and your body, and
that's why you should have it there. Or if you
want blueberries, you should have it there. Like she gets
really really specific. So that is the book. It's called
Women Code. You can also find that on my Amazon page,
radio am dot com for Instagram's and Amazon and links
to shop as Spoa and shop forward like any pimp

(16:38):
and joy stuff. So which speaking of, like Mother's Day
stuff has passed. If you were looking to order anything
as spoa it the deadline was yesterday, so to get
it in time for Mother's Day, I mean you can
still get stuff obviously, but it's going to be late,
but hey, you can give your mom a belated Mother's
Day gift. Anyway. I'm saying all this literally right now

(17:00):
as I'm recording this, I'm getting text messages from Mary
and then our friend Jenna that works with Project Meta Share,
which is the beneficiary right now in Haiti. And we
made a cool dad shirt to go along with the
cool mom shirt, and the cool dad's obviously will be
there available now, but I mean they would be good
Father's Day gifts. But Dwyane Wade, you know, the basketball player, Um,

(17:24):
he's wearing a cool dad shirt. So uh, we're all
texting about it and we're like, oh m G, it's
like hilarious and awesome. So my husband he loves his
cool dad shirt, but he definitely doesn't look as cool
as Dwyane Wade in the cool dad shirt. I mean,
he might be the coolest dad we've had. Oh Luke.
Brian got one too, and he was wearing it, but

(17:46):
you can like barely tell. But Mary and I know,
and some of you were sending us screenshots, which was
really nice because he had posted something on Instagram and
he just happened to be wearing it. But yeah, shout
out Dwyane Wade. Anyway, It's always cool to see people
wanting to support Haiti and what's going on down there,
because I think we're going to actually extend our support
to Project Meta Share. It was going to be through

(18:10):
Mother's Day, but I think we'll do like another month
or so after that because they're just doing such amazing things.
And Marry and I were actually trying to get down
there to go to Haiti and we had to cancel
our trip this is our second trip we've had to cancel,
but this one we was like, so legit, but it's
just too dangerous there right now. There's just a lot

(18:31):
going on and it's just not safe. So much so
to one of my friends sent my husband and I
a note, was like, I've just really think if you
all decide to go forward with this trip, that you
don't go together, because it was gonna be me, Mary
and my husband and then maybe this girl Jenna from
Project Meta Share. Anyway, it was scary to get a

(18:54):
text like that, like, oh, yeah, I guess we shouldn't
travel together in case something happens to both of us.
It probably should just happen to one of us so
that our kids have a parent. Like we're like, okay,
not worth it, not going to Haiti right now, We'll
wait until things settled down. Um. And then also we
were gonna have to take a helicopter to get to
the location because the roads weren't safe enough to drive.

(19:14):
And my husband was like, I'm not taking a helicopter
in Haiti. Not happening. It's just not happening. He doesn't
want to take a helicopter in America, much less Haiti,
but um, so we'll, well, we hope to get down
there so we can. We like to be able to
give y'all very specific updates like we're hands on and
like we've seen it, um, but we know they are

(19:36):
doing awesome things. It's just fun for us to go
down to Haiti and actually check up on things and
report back because we appreciate so much that y'all want
to support what we're doing through all of the items
shop a squad that we owe it to you to
show you, um where the help is going and the

(19:57):
hope that's being spread. So uh yeah, Okay, I'm rambling enough,
so I will let y'all go happy Tuesday, and we
will be back on Thursday with another four Things episode
which Kale Junkie will be back. She's going to do
a more of the recovery part of her eating disorder.
That will be the next phase of our talk is

(20:18):
her recovery and how she got through it. So if
you missed last week's episode, she talked about how her
eating disorder started, and we've got some other good stuff
for you as well, So make sure you check out
the episode downloaded, subscribe to the podcast, rate review it.
