Speaker 1 (00:04):
Happy Tuesday. Welcome to the Fifth Thing. Now this is
the bonus episode to the Four Things podcast where I
go over your emails and pretty much every email I'm
sharing today has birds in it in some way, shape
or form. And I have become obsessed with birds lately,
so much so that I have my own segment on
the Bobby Bones Show now called the Bird Minute. And
(00:25):
I'm gonna go ahead and play that audio that we
use on the Bobby Bone Show here now to kind
of just set up today's episode, and it's gonna be
more like the bird fifteen minutes or so. But it
seems to me like a lot of you are into
the birds as well, so hopefully you will enjoy the
notes that were sent in. But here's my bird minute audio,
(00:46):
and now it's time so Amy spid minute. So even
my quote today is about birds. Found this one purposefully
because I thought it was fitting, and it's from Charlie
Wardle from his book Understanding and Building Confidence. And here's
what Charlie said. A bird sitting on a tree is
never afraid of the branch breaking because it's trust is
(01:09):
not on the branch but on its own wings. So
hopefully that is something that you all can use to
help build your confidence. It might be a book that
I need to check out. I literally just googled bird
quotes and that was one of my favorite ones, and
then I came upon his book and I'm like, well,
maybe now I need to read this book all right.
First email is from Brian. Hey, Amy, guy listener here.
(01:32):
I know you think you're talking mostly to women, but
I listen every week. I just wanted you to know.
But I'm gonna keep this email short and to the point.
I saw your post on Instagram about a hummingbird feeder
that you wear on your head, and I'm not sure
if you posted where to get it. I saw it,
and then I wasn't on Instagram for a few days
and the story expired. Can you email me the link?
I need to buy that for my wife, she is
(01:53):
obsessed with hummingbirds. Your friend, Brian, which just wanted you know,
signing it your friend to prove that I listen all
the time time. Oh and I'm from California. More proof
that I listen all the time. Brian, Thank you for that.
Shout out to all the guys that are listening. Okay, Brian, Yes,
my new hummingbird feeder helmet compliments of Mary arrived at
(02:15):
my house and I had posted a picture the other
day but then posted a video, so the video actually
might still be on my Instagram stories. I guess it depends, honestly,
when you're listening to this. So just in case you're
listening to this and it's not up there, Radio Amy
is where you can find it in the stories, and
I linked to swipe up, but you can also just
go to heat stick dot com. That's the website where
(02:38):
Mary found it, and honestly, I don't know what all
they make. I think there's some candle situation that that's
why it's heat stick dot com. But if you scroll
down past the candle thing, you'll see the hummingbird feeder
helmet situation. And it's supposed to be the most intimate
experience with a hummingbird, and I can't wait to see
if it actually works. I to wish they made other
(03:01):
intimate experience helmets for all kinds of birds, because that
would be amazing, and maybe they do. I just don't
have one yet. I mean, I think Mary just randomly
googling hummingbird feeder helmets and came across this, and I'm
not sure if he gets a lot of orders, but
he personally called Mary and was asking her how she
heard about them, and she said she just searched it
(03:23):
up and found them. So anyway, I think this guy
he makes them himself, and he was so excited to
have the order, so Brian, I'm sure he will be
equally as excited to get the order from you for
your wife. So super thoughtful gift and anybody else out
there that wants to get it for someone in their
life or maybe for yourself, who knows, but y'all also
(03:43):
maybe you want to wait for me to review it.
I haven't actually put it on and gone outside and
had any sort of experience yet, but it is still
a cool gift to give somebody if this is something
they would be into. And you never know, you never
know what kind of hummingbird experiences we're going to start having.
But either way, I mean, who knows. I don't even
know if I really get hummingbirds in my backyard. So
(04:06):
TVD TBD. But Brian, heat stick dot com is where
you can find it, and you're a super thoughtful husband.
Go you Okay? Second email, Hey, Amy, I listened to
the Bobby Bones Show podcast Daily. I heard you talking
about the painted bunting. About three or four years ago,
one came to my mom's feeder. She only saw him once.
(04:26):
One has shown up every year since Usually she would
only see him once a year. She had an issue
with some rodents getting on her bird feeder, and she
read that you could add Chaiam pepper to the food
to deter them. Since then, this painted bunting comes to
my mom's feeder every day. Maybe it's just coincidence that
it started showing up after she added the pepper, or
(04:46):
maybe painted buntings like spicy food. My mom lives at
Topsail Beach in North Carolina, so they could like the sand,
salty air, and the spicy food. Thought you might find
this interesting. Have a blessed day, Bradley Kennedy. Shout out
to you and your mom. Painted bunting. That is a
goals bird for me, like I have a list of
(05:07):
birds that I would love to see that I haven't
seen yet. A barred owl was on there, but if
you listen to my podcast you may know, or you
listen to Bobby Buon show, that I saw a barred
owl here in Nashville. I was on a hike with
a friend and I couldn't believe it. It was the
most beautiful, stunning, majestic thing I have ever seen. And
if I could see a little painted bunting that would
(05:27):
be awesome as well. These are the cutest little birds.
If you don't know what we're talking about, you need
to google them. And they have the most beautiful colors
like they're so vibrant and Bradley attached some pictures of
the bird that stops by her mom's feeder, and it's
just like I thought it would look. It's so pretty.
I've only seen Google images online, so it was cool
(05:48):
to see a bird like that at someone's feeder. So
I also love when you'll send me pictures of birds
or y'all tag me and bird things on Instagram. Radio
Amy is where you can find me and tag me
and maybe I'll see it in the stories. Another thing
we started doing with stories and tagging was if you
rate and review the podcast, then take a screenshot of
(06:09):
your review and then post it to your stories and
tag me on Instagram. And every once in a while,
I'm just going to go through and pick random people
to send something to. You'all can pick out whatever item
you want from ESPOA or four Things or Pimp and
Joy or Cape No like, whatever you would like, and
I'll just do that randomly. I've already picked one out.
I think we announced that we were gonna start doing
(06:30):
that last week, and I already saw some of you
tagging and I just randomly picked one d m the
person and said, hey, send me your address and whatever
item you would like. So that's another fun thing we're
gonna be doing on Instagram. But I also would love
to see your birds and then thank you for the tip,
Bradley Kennedy. I might be adding some cayenne pepper to
my bird seed. Except for I do like my little
(06:51):
chipmunks that visit. I don't really have a squirrel problem,
at least I'm not seeing the squirrels eating. And normally
the chipmunks would annoy me because they do take a
out of the food, but they are just so cute,
and ever since I saved that chipmunk's life because it
was drowning and I was able to rescue it, I
just feel a certain bond and connection to take care
of all the chipmunks in my backyard. So I don't
(07:12):
know if the spiciness will deter the chipmunks. Maybe in
the two feeders that I have closest to my window,
I could put cayenne pepper in one of them and
not in the other. Maybe I'll do that. I don't know,
just kind of talking this through or telling y'all what's
in my head right now. All right. Third email, greetings
(07:34):
from Missouri. I was just listening to your fifth Thing
and one of the emails was about a crow visiting
a listener that made her think of her mom. I
thought some of your listeners might be interested in the
book Signs. Chelsea Handler recommended it last year and I
loved it. I have bird friends now thanks to you
sharing your bird love with us. My whole family has
gotten into helping me keep our feeders full, and they
(07:55):
send me pics of my new bird friends when I'm
not home. I love it. Thanks for the morning show
and your podcast. I have my own business and work
alone most days, so I love to pop in my
headphones and get to work. Michelle. Thank you Michelle from
Missouri for this note. I appreciate you sharing your passion
so that way I don't feel alone in this because
(08:17):
sometimes I feel like the Crazy Bird Lady, but I
feel like there's a lot of us out there and
there's nothing wrong with that. And then also shout out
for the book recommendation. I have personally not checked out Signs,
but if Chelsea Handler recommended it and you liked it,
then maybe some other people were like it. So I'm
putting it out there for others to maybe check out
if they want to. All right, let's get to the
(08:37):
fourth email. Hey, Amy, Lisa here from Kansas, and I
know you have touched on this before, but I'm turning
forty this month and seriously struggling with it. How is
it that everyone around me seems to be handling it
so easily and I am freaking out. I know it's
all in my head, but I figured I could email
invent to you about it and see if any of
your other listeners are feeling like me. You always say
(08:59):
that you do this podcast so that others don't feel alone,
but even you liked Turning forty, so I guess my
misery would like some company and feeling so down about
turning forty ha ha. Can you see if anyone out
there is feeling like me? P S? Should I take
up watching birds and doing puzzles. Maybe that will help
me embrace forty. Thanks Amy, Lisa. All right, Lisa from Kansas,
(09:23):
I got a little survey for you. I found it
when I was doing some prep for the Bobby Bones Show,
and I pulled it. I didn't even submit it to
the Bobby Bones Show. I was like, you know what,
I'm gonna save this for the podcast and share it
with Lisa and everyone else that might be struggling with
getting older. There was a survey done of over a
thousand adults that were turning in that forty to fifty
age range, and so I'm going to share with you
(09:44):
the best parts about getting older. According to the poll,
most people as they age they feel less stressed. They
also feel more stability in life. They get to enjoy
a slower pace of life. Maybe that's when you hit like,
I don't know, fifty sixty, maybe more of a retirement age.
I don't know that I'm feeling that quite at forty,
(10:06):
But they say here they get to spend more time
with family and friends. They're not like doing the hustle
maybe that they were doing in their twenties and thirties.
More time for passions and hobbies. Oh, I'm into that.
Maybe you've got more time for birds and puzzles. Feeling
more confident that one I will agree with, and Lisa,
that is something that has definitely come with age for me.
(10:28):
I feel more confident now than I ever did in
my twenties and thirties, and not you would think that
there would be the other way around, because when you
get older you don't feel as good about things. But
that's just not been the case for me. So hopefully
you'll feel more confident, better handling life's difficulties. I do
think that, yeah, you've had some time to go through life,
and maybe you're more equipped to handle things. Another one
(10:50):
was feeling wise, which I do agree that there's wisdom
that comes with age. And the number one thing that
people say is the best part of aging is having
lots of life experience. So don't be scared of forty.
Be excited about what you're bringing into forty and all
that you're gonna get to do in your forties and
the wise, experienced, confident person that you're going to be.
(11:15):
And yes, I think that you should take up watching
birds and doing puzzles. All right, good luck with turning
forty Happy Birthday. I don't know exactly when you're turning forty,
but happy birthday. Hope it's great and maybe you should
treat yourself to one of our born year sweatshirts. I
feel like you. I see a nineteen eighty one pull
over in your future. They're very cute. If you haven't
(11:37):
checked them out a little plug here shop squaw dot
com to buy a super cute pull over to rep
forty proudly and support Haiti at the same time. I
guess what that said. I do want to share a
bonus email that doesn't have anything to do with birds.
Normally I just cover four emails, but I did get
this really nice note from Crystal in Indiana and she said, Hey, Amy,
(11:58):
I recently received my Joyce Secret Four Things T shirt
and it seriously makes me so happy when I wear it.
Of course, it makes me think of your podcast theme song,
which always makes me smile. Which is me talking here,
not the email. And in case you don't listen to
the intro theme song, it's it's not we don't play
it here on the Fifth Thing. We play it every
Thursday for the Four Things podcast, and it's Walker Hayes
(12:19):
singing Beacon, Choose Joy, lave a Lot, Eat Cake. So yeah,
whenever I see it on the pull over, I hear
Walker singing that as well. Maybe Houston we should Houston's
my producer. For anybody that's new, we should play a
clip of Walker actually singing it. Here you go, all right,
back to the email. I just wanted to share that
(12:40):
I love the shirt and simply looking down at it
makes me smile and feel so good. It has pretty
much everything on it that I want to live for.
I think it may be my new life motto. It's
not always easy to live that way, though, and this cute,
comfy shirt is great encouragement. Your friend Crystal from Indiana.
So yeah, I just wanted to close out the podcast
today a or minding y'all to be kind, Choose Joy,
(13:04):
Laugh a Lot, Eat Cake, and also just thank you
all for all of the support. I mean, Crystal, even
the fact that you went to buy the T shirt.
I know it takes a lot to hear me talk
about something that Mary and I put together, and we
put a lot of work into the merchandise that we make,
whether it is for Pimp and Joy or four Things
or a Spua or the New k No stuff, like
(13:25):
we we put a lot of work into that, and
it's not lost on me that y'all are hearing it
and not really getting a visual of it. And then
you're trusting that it's gonna be good. And then you
take the time to go to your computer and either
go to Radio amy dot com or you go to
shop spat dot com, or you go to four Things
dot com or the shot Forward whatever however you find it.
It all redirects to the shop Forward website, which there's
(13:46):
tons of items up there that give back, but those
are the ones that I'm involved in. And just to
see how y'all have supported us and our community is
rallied together, it's just been really cool. I was in
Texas this last weekend for my dad's few role and
I got to pass out the cab Bueno shirts to
a lot of my family. And if y'all aren't familiar
with that story, I have a post up on my Instagram.
(14:07):
You can just go read about it Radio Amys where
you can find it. Look for the selfie of me
wearing a navy shirt with white letters across the state
cab Bueno, which means that's good and you can read
more about it there. And the scholarship fund that we've
created in my dad's name, the Harvey Clifton Moffett Scholarship Fund,
could be a great Father's Day gift for someone in
your life or actually all cold Dad items under Espoix.
(14:30):
Normally they support Haiti, but for this Father's Day, in
honor of my dad, we've shifted everything to supporting his
scholarship funds so we can build that up and help
send kids to college or at least give scholarships so
that we can build that up and give scholarships to
kids in rural areas that would like an opportunity to
go to college, because my dad is someone that wouldn't
(14:52):
have gone to college if it wasn't for scholarships. And
the reason why it's cab bueno is he was fluent
in Spanish. He always said that. Again. I told you,
I'll could go read about the but it's like I
can't help myself. I have to talk about it. But
it was really cool to pass those out, and it's
been really cool to see all of y'all order those
and support it. But if you do have Father's Day
shopping to do, just wanted to encourage you, and you know,
Crystal sharing that email and being such a happy customer
(15:14):
makes us feel good because she likes the shirt. She
likes the quality of the shirt, she likes the reminder
of the shirt what it's all about, and that is
literally why Mary and I anything that we come up with,
we come up with with that in mind, and that
is our hope for when you wear it. So super cool.
All right, thank you guys for listening. I feel like
the fifth Thing listeners are my hardcore dedicated listeners because
(15:37):
maybe you email in which the email is four things
with Amy Brown at gmail dot com, put fifth thing
in the subject line, sign up your friend, tell me
what state you're emailing me from. I'd love to hear that.
But I feel like y'all are my hardcore ones. There's
probably people that listen on Thursdays that don't listen on
Tuesdays because it's probably just a little too much, which
I get that I totally understand. I get overwhelmed with
(15:58):
things I need to consume all the time. So if
you are listening to this and you listen all the
way through, shout out to you. I appreciate it and
thank you so much. For all the support. All right,
talk to you all on Thursday for all four things.
See then bye,
