Speaker 1 (00:04):
Happy Tuesday. Welcome to the Fifth Thing, the bonus episode
to my four Things podcast where I go over emails
that you have sent in. And I always start this
episode off with a quote, but today I'm doing something
a little bit different. Instead of a quote, I'm going
to share a less of this more of this graphic
that I saw on Instagram. Let's Talk about mental Health
(00:26):
is the one that posted it. If you want to
follow that account, the actual handle is Let's talk dot
mental Health. Definitely a good one to follow. So here's
what they put up. Less of I'm so stupid and
more of OOPS just made a mistake, less of no
one ever likes me, and more of I like myself.
(00:49):
Less of I'm not a good person, and more of
I made some mistakes. I can own that, less of
I'm stuck this way I can't change, and more of
I'm all ways evolving. Less of I never do anything right,
and more of I haven't figured it out yet, but
I will. Less of I'm not good enough, and more
(01:11):
of I'm so worthy. And again that is from Let's
Talk mental Health Instagram account. All right, the first email
that I'm going to get into is one that I
got from Sasha and Corpus Christi, Texas. It was actually
a really long, thoughtful email, and I'm not going to
share the whole thing, but Sasha, if you're listening, thank
you so much for all the kind words and the encouragement.
(01:31):
And please tell your husband thank you for serving. Now.
The part of Sasha's email that I do want to
relate to everyone is this part. A favorite thing of
mine that I want to share with you is one
of my favorite most uplifting, joyful songs that I've had
on repeat the last few weeks, super Bloom by Mr. Wives.
It's filled with so much joy and strength and positivity.
I blast it while walking in sunshine. I hope you
(01:54):
check it out and love it. Thanks for keeping it
real and full of joy, your friends. Sasha in Corpus
Chris D, Texas. Ps. I feel like I need to
make a road trip to Dilley. We are stationed here
in Corpus. It might be fun to go check it
out if there's anything you'd recommend there. Okay, Sasha, I
love this song recommendation and I'm actually gonna play the
second verse for everyone now because I love the words
(02:16):
so much. Here it's resilient, little thing just like Mama
raised you. So you got that wild don't you have?
Let it go? Make your mouse all right? That they
all know. I just congratulated, canation. Congratulation. That's so and
(02:49):
that's all right again. That song is super Bloom by Mr. Wives.
If you'll want to us into the whole thing. I
love that you recommended a song for us, Sasha. Now,
when it comes to Dilly, Texas, that's definitely a special
place in my heart because it's where my dad grew up.
(03:12):
But I'm not sure there's a lot to do there
if you want to take a road trip. I mean,
there is the watermelon statue, because Dilly's like the self
proclaimed watermelon capital of the world, but it's pretty tiny.
Just heads up on that. And then Pancho Garcias is
amazing Mexican food there. But you know again, I think
we honestly love it so much because of the nostalgia
surrounding it for my family, and hey, George Strait has
(03:34):
been known to eat there from time to time, so
you never know who you might run into. But I
don't know that Dilley is worth a road trip, although
I know we do have listeners that live there. Or
live near there, so there's nothing against Dilley. Again, very
special to me. But when it comes taking a road trip,
maybe you're going somewhere else and you just detour through
(03:54):
their real quick. I don't know that it's your final destination.
But thank you for the email, Sasha. All right, let's
get into the second email from Cody. Hey, Amy, I
recently purchased your Gratitude Journal, and I must say it
has really helped put my life back into perspective. My
life feels like it's been on a bit of a
roller coaster ride this last month, and your podcast has
been a saving grace. At a doctor appointment today regarding
(04:17):
some breast issues, and I've got breast cancer dominant and
my family taking multiple lives at young ages, and now
I'm being referred to a breast cancer center to get
an ultrasound done. I'm not gonna lie. I instantly broke
down in tears. I'm only twenty five, newly married of
two years, and i have the most beautiful one year old.
I can't even begin to think about this appointment at
(04:37):
this cancer center. Still, I'm slightly terrified. But after listening
to a woman who shared an email with you who
has bone cancer at thirty two. I just took a
deep breath. I feel like, not only are you my friend,
but fellow listeners are my friends too, and we're all
going through hardships and scary times together. I'm so scared
and so emotional, but with your podcast and faith in God,
(05:00):
I will get through whatever this storm is going to
look like. Your friend, Cody from Ohio ps, the four
things I'm thankful for today are my son's teethy grin, Starbucks,
Jam sessions in the car by myself, and four Things podcast.
So Cody, thank you so much for this email. And
I'm so thankful that I'm pretty sure that that email
that you're talking about is from Alicia. And yeah, she's
(05:23):
thirty two years old, a science teacher, battling bone cancer
and choosing joy. And I know that it's so hard
to face something unknown and can be pretty terrifying. I
went in for a Mami Graham a couple of weeks
ago and then was called back for other images they
said they needed to take because of a spot that
they found in my left breast, And just those few
(05:45):
days that I was waiting to go in for my appointment,
I was pretty anxious and worried, and they said that yeah,
if they didn't figure it out what the images, I
needed to schedule time during that visit to also have
an ultrasound done. So I feel you. I guess the
only different part for me is breast cancer doesn't run
in my family, so I feel like my nerves might
have been amplified a bit if I had family members
(06:07):
that were diagnosed young. And also cancer does run in
my family, and that is a legit fear of mine.
I try not to focus on that because I don't
want to give attention to that. So I just want
to encourage you to do the same. And then here's
what we know. They need you to come in for
more images. That's it. You have not been diagnosed with
anything at this moment, so I want you to enjoy
time with your husband and enjoy time with your one
(06:28):
year old, and please keep us posted on what is
happening in the next few weeks after your appointment if
you feel like you have time to email us an update,
because like you said, you feel like I'm a friend,
and you feel like my followers are all of the
listeners here are your friends, and so I just know
that people will be praying for you, Cody, and I
would love to give them an update no matter what
(06:50):
it is. But it is interesting to hear other people's
perspectives and when they can be so positive and they're
going through something really hard, it helps you try to
look around and see what you have to be grateful for,
but also lean into those emotions that you're having. I
think that they're warranted, they're fair, um, but I just
don't want you to spend too much time being anxious
(07:10):
about it when you don't you don't know anything yet.
All right, let's get into the third email, which is
from Shannon and Houston. I will eat a queue up
my bird minute audio for this one because we're about
to talk about some birds and now it's time, so
Amy spid minute. Hey, Amy, greetings from Canada. Feel free
(07:36):
to use this as proof of your international following. I
recently broke my leg and I'm struggling a bit. I
really felt your It's Okay to not be Okay episode.
See the silver lining here. I now get to watch
birds from my makeshift dining room table desk. Your newfound
love of birds is so heartwarming. My grandparents had the
most magical backyard that my grandmother kept full of flowers
(07:57):
and bird bath and feeders. They attracted all types of
birds and critters alike, but the ones that stand out
for me looking back are cardinals and blue jays. Listening
to you speak of these two birds recently has hit
home for me. Every time I see either one, I
think of her. She passed away a few years ago
and I miss her every day. Grief really is a
funny thing. I'm very sorry to hear about your dad's
(08:19):
sudden passing. My heart goes out to you. Thank you
for your positive attitude even in the dark times, and
thank you for reminding me to choose joy even while
I'm struggling. Your friend Shannon BC Canada, which yes, Shannon,
I will definitely use this to make note of my
international following, which is super cool. I love hearing where
(08:39):
you are all from, and so many of you are
now signing your emails with your location, so it's fun
to see the different parts of the country. So far,
we've had Texas and then Ohio and then now Canada.
Pretty cool. And you know, I get that you're struggling,
and similar to the last email, it is hard to
go through times that cause us grief and anger and
(08:59):
pain and frustration. But I want you to feel your feelings.
That's what Cat Defata, my friend that's a therapist who
comes on the podcast from time to time. She literally
has a shirt and a coffee mug. This is feel
your feelings, whatever they are in the moment. Make sure
you're feeling all of them. But definitely I don't like
to stay stuck in those moments. So yeah, well I
(09:20):
may be a reminder for you to try to choose joy.
It's not lost on me that it completely sucks that
you broke your leg. And yeah, I'm so glad that
the It's Okay to Not Be Okay episode resonated with you.
All right, Fourth, the email is from Susan and she said,
not a question, but you've got to watch Penguin Town
on Netflix. I just know that you'll love this documentary
(09:43):
about these cute little birdies as much as I do.
Thanks for spreading joy and light, your friend, Susan from Georgia.
All right, Susan, I checked out Penguin Town after I
saw your email, and it is the cutest thing. Now,
it's not a documentary like a you know, an hour
and offlong movie type situation. This is actually episode so
(10:04):
it's cool because I feel like I have more to
look forward to. I've only seen episode one, and I'm
already in love with the little penguins and the other characters.
I've never really seen a documentary done this way at all.
When I was even searching it up before I decided
to watch it, because I was just researching what in
the world it was about. This article had just been
written a day ago and the title was Penguin Town
(10:27):
is the best new Netflix show that you need to
watch now, So I would say, especially if you have kids,
this is something that you all could watch together. And
I also got another d M. I think it was
a d M from someone. Sorry I can't credit the source,
but I just remember seeing it and making a mental note,
and they were telling me to also watch Planet of
(10:47):
the Birds, which is on na Geo and Disney Plus
also has it, which I think is also about penguins.
So I haven't watched that one yet, but just throwing
it out there in case anybody else wants something to
watch with the family or you have hapen to be
into penguins and birds and I can't recommend Penguin town
enough again, I'm only one episode in, but it is
(11:07):
very cool. And when the penguins are wet and they're
drying off their little feathers and how it looks like
a little fur, it's like the cutest thing. Now. I
need to go somewhere where I can hang out with penguins,
because while I do have a bird feeder and I
have visitors in my backyard, definitely don't have penguins at all.
And I think that's something that I have now added
to my bucket list, is hanging out with penguins somewhere.
(11:29):
I mean, I don't have to touch them or scam away,
but I just want to see them do their thing
because it's very cool. I love how much y'all want
to share about birds with me. And something else that's
cool on Instagram is when y'all tag me in bird pictures,
like if you are interacting with a bird, or you
see a bird, or you're feeding birds yourself. I love
(11:51):
seeing those, so radio Amy is how you tag me,
and hopefully I will see them. They definitely brighten my day.
And I know Cody mentioned our four Things Gratitude journal
a couple of emails ago, and I just wanted to
say quickly to that four things dot Com is an
easy way to find that if you'd like one for yourself.
It's super cute and you'll be supporting education in Haiti
(12:13):
with purchase through Project Meta Share, and it's an easy
way to join us in practicing four things gratitude just
every day or every other day, or maybe even once
a week. Don't want it to be overwhelming. You can
just jot down four things that you're grateful for, and
you can either do it in our journal or you
can just get any notebook and write them down as
you see fit. But I also really appreciated ow Cody
(12:36):
included in her email the four things she was grateful for.
So I know I ask a lot of you guys
with your emails, but I love that y'all catch on
your signing at your friend, which is cool. Feel connected
that way. You're letting me know what city or state
or country you're emailing you from, which is super cool.
But maybe something else we could add, if y'all are
(12:57):
up for it, is to had four things that you're
thankful for the day that you're emailing me, because that
might be fun to read off and share with others
and just be encouragement for people to, you know, remember
to do that if they can. And if four things
is too overwhelming, then just write one thing that you're
thankful for. There's no rules, just four things podcast for
Things Gratitude. That's the reason why we go with the
(13:19):
number four. Al Right. I hope y'all are having a
great Tuesday or whatever data is that you're listening to
this and we have a great rest of the week.
And on Thursday, my episode with Lizzie is going up.
She's at Little Lizzie v on Instagram, and she is
such an encouragement, such a joy, such a light. You
(13:40):
want to talk about having a positive attitude and positive
perspective and really wanting to, you know, make a difference
in this world. Lizzie is doing just that for so
many people, especially in the bullying space, because unfortunately she
has had to deal with a lot of that, but
she's not letting it get wasted on her. She is
using it for good to and I hope that y'all
(14:01):
will check out this episode, especially if you're a parent
or maybe if you've got kids, they can listen to
this one and it can help open up some conversations
on how they treat people and how we can maybe yeah,
raise them and remind them that if someone looks differently
than they do, you know, we don't need to draw
attention to it. We don't need to make someone feel
(14:22):
differently because of it. We can learn a lot from
Lizzie for sure, So I hope you will check out
that episode. She's just again such a joy. I'll see
y'all on Thursday. With a little Lizzie by
