Speaker 1 (00:00):
Okay, so this is exciting. For today's Q and A.
I have Ashley Lemieux. Hey, guy, you're with us, and
I love your last names so fancy because it's L
E capital M I E you X you Wanner? Why why?
Because it means the best in French? Does it really?
Do you speak French? But it would be cool if
(00:21):
I did so. Ashley is amazing. She's someone that I met. Gosh,
I first met you in Austin at Austin Angels. I think, yeah,
you and your husband's we were there in Austin doing
some work with Austin Angels, who works with foster care families,
and that's when I first learned about you and all
the amazing things that you do. Can you give a
(00:42):
quick Ashley bio? Yeah. So I'm an author and speaker
and entrepreneur and really my main purpose of everything that
I do with my company, The Shine Project, is to
give tools and resources to help women shine in their
personal and professional lives, no matter what's going on behind
the scenes. And this is exciting. She wrote a book
(01:05):
and right now it's available for pre order, and it's
called Born to Shine, and that's just gotta feel so good.
I know that this was not an easy thing for you,
so to have it actually in the flesh. I got
mine in the mail today the same day that Ashley
is coming over, like probably an hour before you got
to my house. I opened up the package and I
(01:26):
was like, what, this is perfect timing. I kind of
got goose bumps because I was so excited to actually
see it. And it's available for pre order now, and
I guess just a quick it says here, I'll just
read what it says, but then you can give us.
It says practical tools to help you shine even in
life's darkest moments. And we're not going to go too
much into it because Ashley is going to actually come
(01:46):
back on and be like a thing in a couple
of weeks, so like October tenth or so, we're going
to dive a little bit more into it. She's here
for the Q and A right now. But um, what
would you say about Born to Shine? My hope for
Born to Shine is that all the women who read
it leave not being afraid of the dark anymore. And
(02:07):
Born to Shine really is to help women have tools
to help them in their darkest moments, so that they
know that even if their life isn't exactly how they
wanted or thought that it would end up. That it's
still beautiful and there's still so much light and love
and joy to be had. So that's the brief overview
of it. So true. And you know, Ashley comes from experience.
(02:32):
I know, and we'll get into this when we have
you on it for the thing. But you have experienced
some dark things and have had to process that hurt
big time. And I love how vulnerable and open you
are on Instagram. Um, so people can start to get
to know you a little bit more before they listen
to you on the Four Things podcast. Her Instagram, it's
(02:52):
just Ashley Ashley kay Lemieu Ashley kay lemieux. And again
that's Ellie m I e u X, which means super
cool and friends are the best same tomato tomato. But
she's just great and she goes and she speaks all
across the country. And I'm excited to read this and
(03:14):
dive more into it later with you, but for now,
let's get to the questions for today. Okay, let's do it. Okay.
This one is from Miranda Amy after listening to you
on stage, which Tricia year, would I realize how comfortable
you seem speaking on stage. What's your secret? Do you
(03:35):
or did you ever have a fear of public speaking?
I know you talk on air every day for work,
but is there a big difference when you have to
be in front of a live audience. How do you
get past the anxiety of public speaking? I would love
to know. Okay, yeah, I'm glad we have Ashley here
for this because you're the one that goes out and
does public speaking. I feel like speaking on the radio
is very different. It has trained me to not be
(03:57):
scared a little bit. But when you're on a microphone
and a room with your friends, you're not thinking about
all the people out there listening. But actually you have
to speak in a room full of people on your
Born to Shine tour. I mean I've been I've seen
on Instagram. It's like big crowds and you know, I
don't what do you have You ever had to deal
with that? Absolutely? But here's something that I've learned is
(04:19):
that excitement and anxiety kind of feel exactly the same thing.
So when I whenever I go to speak anywhere and
I start feeling that anxiety and I get a little
bit sweaty in my heart's racing and pounding. I just
tell myself that I'm really excited instead of really anxious.
And then the second I tell myself I'm excited, I'm
(04:39):
able to go speak from a different place than if
I'm like, oh my gosh, I feel so anxious right now.
So that's just my little secret that I do. I
love that that's so true. That works. I mean, I
feel like you can change the narrative and you're like,
whatever you're feeling, you can switch it and tell your
brain and our bodies and our brains they react to
what we're It's almost like that more of that, like
(05:02):
feed it more of the positive instead of like and
not that being nervous is bad. I feel like being
nervous is okay because it means that you care. But
you can take the anxiety and turn it into excitement
and then boom, it's it's a tool. And I also think,
because she asked what's your secret, I think one of
the secrets is that a lot of people get really nervous,
but then you just figure out how to go through
(05:23):
with it anyway. Yeah, and then sometimes for me and
not that this works all the time, especially if you're
speaking in a room full of people. But what I've
done on the radio at least is we always kind
of treat it like we're just talking to friends and
these are your people whether and I minimize it. I'm like, Okay,
there's just a couple of people listening, and then that
makes me a little more comfortable. And I try not
(05:45):
to think of because if you if you think too
much about it, then you don't speak your truth sometimes
or you don't speak from the heart because you're like
too overthinking of how somebody. And there are days that
I do that and I'm like, why am I caring
what Susie and wherever? Sorry, if your name is Susan
and you're listening my mother, I love you. I love you, Susie.
I'm not talking about you, but Susi Q and whatever
(06:06):
is going to think about what I'm gonna say. Okay,
So next question from Skylar. My question for you is
I have been eating a vegetarian lifestyle for about five
months now, and I love how I feel. I know
you did this for a while too. What was your
go to vegetarian meal that made you feel good, full
and like you actually conquered making that meal? Thank you?
(06:27):
For all you are about and openly talking about it.
Keep being you. Okay, thanks Skylar. I eat meat now,
but yeah, when I was vegetarian, my jam meal was
Kimberly Snyder who she's also gonna be coming up on
the podcast soon. Uh. She has this sweet potato dish
called like garosh sweet potatoes and it's curry and tumeric
(06:51):
and sea salt and coconut oil and you bake on
chopping them up, bakelem and it's so good. And I
would put that over a bed of kale, but I
would kind of saute and massage the kale so that
way my body would digest it better. With some goat
cheese that's still vegetarian, not vegan. If you're vegan, omit
the goat cheese. But I would do that and that.
I ate that all the time when I was a vegetarian,
(07:12):
and it was very, very satisfying to me. But not
everybody loves curry. So maybe if that's something that sounds
good to you, give it a google. What are you
do you have a preference in eating? I eat all
the things that just getting my stomach growl. Though that
sounded really good. Here's my thing as I stink at cooking,
so I just need something easy. Yes, so I can't
(07:35):
be too piggy, but that one's really not that hard
that dish. That's why I threw that kind of easy.
Next question from Robin Hey, Amy, I was wondering if
the Fall pull over will be back in stock soon.
I'm slightly behind on the podcast and just went to
order it and it's out of stock. Thanks for any info. Dang,
those were so fun. We were so happy to release
those because they're just they were so fall there on
(07:58):
Burnt Orange and said, you know the Fall things. We
learned a lot though, Like we put pumpkin spices a
Core four thing and a lot of people were like, oh,
I don't like pumpkin spice and I was like, what,
who does it like pumpkin spice in the fall, So
we did learn from that. We made a limited amount
and we did sell out, so thank you. Amazing was
going to support Project Medicare in Haiti. So we're not
going to make more because I feel like Fall is
(08:20):
we just get into like more holiday type stuff soon
and it can be scary to make stuff and you
never know if people are going to buy it. So
once we sold out, We're like, Okay, sold out, move
on to the next But um, maybe we'll bring it
back next fall or something, or maybe you never know,
once a bunch of orders go out, if we have
to keep some in stock in case there's something wrong
or a mishap, so we might have something randomly available
(08:42):
in the next couple of weeks. Um, but thanks for
at least liking it, right, Actually, you know how that goes.
Keep your eye out for the new you have a
shop in different things, like you know, like you know,
you never know, you never know. Nope, Oh we didn't
say where can people go to pre order your book? Um, honestly,
the easiest place will be Amazon. Amazon it to Amazon,
(09:06):
so we seek, in primate be at your house on
the day it comes out. So so if you just
want to go ahead and pre order, now you know
what I'll do. You have an Amazon page? Yes, okay,
we'll send you that link. Throw that out there. I mean,
you just I'm sure, is it Ashley? Let me on Amazon.
That's a really good question that I'm okay, Well, I'll
at least add it to mine as well. And minds, y'all,
(09:26):
if you listen a lot, you know mind's Radio Amy um,
which is easy to find Radio amy dot com. Yeah,
that's where you can find it. But then I'll add
it Ashley. Next question is from Kelsey. Kelsey, Hey, Amy,
(09:48):
I was wanting to ask you about hair products. Do
you have any favorite shampoo's, conditioners, et cetera. I was
also wondering about using coconut oil in my hair. Have
you done that or know anyone who does? And do
you have any tips? I'm worried about it making my
hair greasy things. Okay, I see people do this on Instagram,
but full disclosure, I've never done it. I haven't done
(10:08):
it either. I used to put it on my face
and then I heard it was horrible for I know.
It's like you get such conflicting news. I'm like, who
do we believe? I don't even know, but I will
tell you. Um. Once I saw this email, I was like, well, shoot,
I've never done it. But Kara, who she was at
the house and she helps with my kids, and she
was like, oh, I've done it. I put it in
(10:29):
my hair. I leave it overnight, but in the morning
when you wake up. She said, you have to wash
your hair at least twice to make sure that you
get it all out or it's going to be like
super oily um. And then coconut oil is hard, so
you have to make sure you apply it, and like
if you want to get it evenly throughout, like just
even if your hair is wet, it'll melt on there
(10:50):
and you can massage it in, she said. But yeah,
you can wear it anywhere from thirty minutes to overnight
is what she does. And she says it makes her
hair super soft. But if you don't wash it good
the next day, you're gonna be like total small. But
I mean, it's gotta be good. I feel like my
mom used to put like mayonnaise in her hair or something,
but I had no idea. This is not me endorsing
that by any means. But don't try the mail. Yeah. Sorry,
(11:10):
we can't be more help on this one, Kelsey. But
I don't know. Do you do anything crazy to your hair?
You have beautiful hair. Oh thanks, I haven't got it
done for a long time. But I because I'm blond,
I use purple shampoo, So I recommend that if you're blonde,
helps the color lasts longer. But that's kind of my
main thing. Yeah, I don't really have. I think I
just buy random things right now. I'm not really really
(11:32):
invested in it's hard, but yeah, I mean, coconut oil
is something that you probably have in your kitchen. You
might as well give it a go because it doesn't
seem like it's that hard, and it can make it soft.
Don't put it on your face. Um, Okay, we're gonna
scroll down. I think there's a question from Caitlin at
the very bottom. All right, Hi, Amy, my question is
for you, what is the deal with the capsules on
(11:54):
the vital Protein site. They sell out a lot, but
I'm curious if the capsules may be good to take
on the days I don't use the powder. Keep up
the great work. Okay. So I had to reach out
to Aaron Opria for this one, and she said that
the capsules do work the same, you just have to
take a lot of them to equal the same amount
as the powder form. So I don't know the cost
difference in the pills and the powder form, but it's like, well,
(12:15):
I would do the math on what works for you.
Or maybe you don't have a way to consume the
powder because you don't like Machilatt's or you don't like
making smoothies or throwing it into your coffee. Do you
ever use vital proteins. I haven't, but I've heard really
great things about them. It's so good. I use it
every day. Um, and I noticed the difference in my hair, skin, nails,
all the things I don't. I have zero affiliation with them,
(12:37):
not an endorsement at all, but I do talk about
them a lot. Vital proteins and Zevia. Have you ever
had zevia? Oh my gosh, Ashley, teach me that. When
we go downstairs in the fridge, I'm giving you a
ROADI Zevia for the road, E Zevia for the row,
because it's amazing. That sounded. That sounded really cool. Yeah,
(12:57):
I'll give you a road. I mean it's orange z via.
It's a like a not no calorie drink, but it's
like sweetened with stevia, not you know, like aspartame or
splenda or something. And stevia is still so far still
approved by a lot of health people. And I'm waiting
for the day where we get the note it's like
zevia is bad, and I'm like no, because you know
(13:18):
that's how we all felt when diet coke became bad
and so uh yeah, I'll give you some of that.
But vital proteins is my JM. I'm a big fan.
One day if they want to sponsor, great, that'll be amazing.
It'll be all more natural, all more organic. But Aaron
Oprih and my trainer, she works with them a lot,
so she's my go to and I get to ask
her all the questions and she said, yep, you just
have to pop a out of the pills to make
(13:39):
sure that they equal. But I mean for me, I
like being able to throw it in you know what
I've done too at the end of the night. If
I feel like I still need a little bit of
extra protein in my day, um, and I am drinking
a ZeVA I'll pour my Zevia orange via in the
blender at a scoop of the vital proteins, blend it
and then poured over ice with a straw and it's
like a little you know orange. It's simple too. It's
(14:01):
an oranged mocktail, yeah, with some vital proteins. So okay, well, um,
that'll do it for today's Q and A. But um,
don't forget to check Ashley out I think my menu
for the next couple of weeks is for four things
is um, Hillary Scott from Lady Antebellum, and um Against
All Grain? Do you know Against All Grain? I don't
(14:23):
think so, No, you don't. Daniel Walker, I've learned she
likes yes. So she started. See I knew her forever
as against all Grain because that was her handle, and
then she now is trying to so I figured that's
how a lot of people know her. But I guess not.
She's now trying to like fully be like, I'm Daniel Walker,
which she should because that's her name. And so I've
(14:44):
got them too, And then I've got you coming up
um soon. This is all stuff in the next I'm
just I'm just so yeah, it'll be some some fun stuff.
So in the meantime, definitely, if you are feeling you
have some dark stuff you've been navigating through and you
(15:05):
you want some tools to help you shine, then Ashley
is your girls, So definitely check it out Amazon board
a Shine and Ashley on Instagram. And this is endorsed
by oh Jenna Kutcher or a little is that what
it's called an assement on the back. Yeah, she's like
her story is crazy. She just took off and she's
(15:26):
the entrepreneur and online influencer. Awesome. Okay, all right, well,
we will see y'all on Thursday, or at least I
will Ashley. I'll see you in a couple of weeks
