Speaker 1 (00:01):
Adam Adam.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Carry line. She's a queen and talking and so you
know she's getting really not afraid to feel this episode
or soul. Just let it flow.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
No one can do we crowd cary line.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Its sound of Caroline.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Okay, we are back with cole Ford. We just had
the most incredible interview. You literally have come back to life.
You almost passed away with a serious.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Heart attack two times.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yeah, you've had a music career spanning since what two
thousand and eight is yeah, seven or eight?
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Seven or eight really a lifetime.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
But yes, officially you've been independent the whole time. You've
trailblazed your own road. You have loyal fans who love you,
incredible friends in the industry like Brandley Gilbert who are
just been in your corner like you, And yes to
the nth degree, do you just have such a beautiful
journey and life to show for yourself. And you just
have a new album coming out with November seventh.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
November seventh, A little out there, a.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Little out there out no new single.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yeah, Country af is out there right now. But I
got a bunch of bunch of my buddies on the record,
Michael Ray and Craig Campbell, some old guys that you know,
and then I got some new guys. Jay Webb, young guy.
Tyler Booth is a young guy that I love a lot.
Don Lewis is a black cowboy artist from Texas. And
we did a really kind of sexy song called a
(01:34):
Little out There that's a lot of fun. So yeah,
I'm excited about it.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
And this is a big album for you because you
didn't know how you'd be able to come back after
you had your heart attacks.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yeah, And somebody asked me earlier in an interview, they said,
you know, you keep making music and I was like, yeah,
I don't. I don't understand that because somebody they said
that early on, well you can still record. I'm like, yeah,
but you mean I can't go play what I recorded.
But then I don't want to do that. I'm not
going to do that. I just I'm not going to
(02:04):
do that. And so that was it was all part
of the plan. And I had to be able to
because otherwise I'd have just stayed at home, you know,
I mean, it's just who I am. It's I got
to be out there and play for the people.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
And you're back, Okay, So now you're going to draw
some very very personal questions. We're going to answer them. Okay, Okay,
so you can draw like two or three.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Here's the deal. I've drawn the question. You are going
to have to read me the question hereline because I
can't see it.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
What is a small decision you made that changed your
life in a big way?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Small decision I made that changed my life in a
big way. Come to Nashville, Tennessee. When I was doing
what I was doing, the way I was doing, you
know when we first met. I mean I was thirty
six years old when I met you, so i'm fifty
to twenty years years Yeah, twenty years we've known each other.
(03:02):
I meant, I've got an older nuggler. You're still beautiful
as always. You look the same, You literally look the same.
I meant, like, you know, it's just it's crazy to
think that we're but coming here was it changed everything?
Because everybody's like, first of all, you're crazy. You know,
you're thirty six years old, three hundred pound dude in
(03:25):
a cowboy hat that's wrapping, Like, what are you doing?
You're out of your mind? And I just I just couldn't.
I just I just did I just wouldn't listen. I
just wouldn't listen.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Aren't you glad you didn't listen?
Speaker 2 (03:37):
I'm glad I didn't.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Glad you didn't listen either. Okay, let's see another one.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
All right, let's see here from the right, just going
to sit on all of them.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
That's all right, Okay.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
What a belief that has personal meaning to you.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
I think what I've learned for sure, Like when I
wasn't sure what would happen, I realized that I have
tried to be give love and stuff to everybody I
came across. I meant, even when they weren't showing it
(04:19):
back to me. My mom is say, you just kill
them with kindness and and so you know, and for
me when I started, you've known me from the beginning.
They wouldn't really let me in. And and honestly, in
the industry, in a lot of ways, I've still never
really been let in. Like I would go to an
ORD show and backstage and me and Jason Luke are
(04:40):
all talking, and then they they've commercials over and they
go to the front row and I go up in
section one oh four. You know what I mean, Like
it's but it's Okay, it's just and now it's changed
so much, but so I wasn't sure whether they would
still be there. I meant like, but I found out
that if you, if you, if you give that love,
then at some point when you need it, they'll give
(05:02):
it back to you. And you have to do it
because you want to do it, not because you. I
always did it not really expecting anything, and I still
do that. Like there's some of those guys that I've
talked about what I was talking about with you that
I haven't heard from, that if they call me tomorrow
and ask me for something, I would do it because
it's just who I am. And so I can't let
(05:24):
that change me, even though I might be a little
more reluctant to say no, or I might not even
it might be I won't answer on the first ring.
But you know, I don't know. If you give that
love for it, I think it comes back to you.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
It does for every action.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
I've certainly seen it. Yeah, I've seen it.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
So but it's like a law.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
For every action, there's an evil and opposite reacity. So
that's why I'm like karma to me, that's what karma is,
because if you are consistently an asshole, or you're consistently rude,
or you're consistently like rooting for people to fail that energy,
you will.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Get that energy back, and if you're the other, you
will get.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
I've just never been that way. Like my songwriting buddies like,
I'm I'm happy when they get a number one, and
I know friends of mine that are there would go,
I can't believe he got that, and why didn't they
cut my son? I'm like, well, I'm happy if they
get a number one because I write songs with them
and maybe we'll get a number one, you know, Like,
I don't know. I just we're all play music. We're
(06:20):
all lucky to be able to do it and be
a part of this stuff and get to do something
and that makes a difference in somebody's life. That's a
that's a big deal.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Okay, let's see one more.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Let's see what I got.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
Who in your life has made a bigger impact on
you than they probably know?
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Hm hmm, there's probably a few. Uh, there's probably there's
probably a few. Uh. I would I would say one
of the most important things that has ever been said
to me in music was Eric Church. I was opened
(07:04):
up for Eric a little bit. This is pre Chief record.
Things are starting to blow up. I need to I
got to find this phone somewhere, because I have the
phone somewhere. But we had played a show somewhere and
Chief was getting ready to come out. So remember when
we used to get numbers on Tuesday. So we had
played we were playing Saturday somewhere, and and we're just
(07:27):
talk you know, talking, and he's like, man, I know
you frustrated because you because you know, I was just
working on I couldn't get they won't play me, but
I still sell all these tickets. And I was frustrated
and and and Eric, you know, it's just like on
Monday night, I get a text from him and we
were just sharing on the you know whatever show whatever,
(07:48):
and we went on down the right and so Monday
he goes, hey, I was just thinking about what you
were saying. I just want to let you know, man,
you're what you're doing is correct. The fans say it's corrected.
I don't care that a chart says a record is
number one. He goes, you have number one songs right now,
Cold I just saw ten thousand people sing them. That
(08:12):
is a number. That is a hit song, and he goes,
so don't worry about it. Good music will win in
the end. And that's what he told me. And it
wasn't just what he said, but it was also the
point of he said it at a time when I
needed it, because I was like frustrated and pissed off.
(08:32):
I'm like, why won't they play me? This is you know,
it's bullshit. Why don't they play me? I do everything
they need me to do. I mean, I'm not up
there talking about the devil or nothing like I. And
I was blown away that he took the time to
send me the message the night before his record was
getting ready to come out, because the other the last
part of the thing he said, He goes, because I've
(08:52):
never had a number one either, and my record comes
out tomorrow and I'm about to sell two hundred thousand
units the first week, and I hadn't had it either.
He goes, so don't think that you can't do what
you're doing. Basically, just that word of encouragement, and it
meant a lot to me. And you know, it's crazy.
I hadn't talked it. I hadn't even you know, I've
(09:12):
lost touch with Eric. I haven't. I haven't talked to
Eric in years. I don't even have his number. You
know a lot of times, you know, sometimes people get
to a different level and you lose whatever. I haven't
talked about that. That was something in this music business
that has really stuck with me. I'm like, okay, it's
the fans there. I do have hit songs. I do
(09:33):
have number one songs. It just I didn't. I don't
have a little trophy saying that. But the trophies are
just scattered out here on this crowd singing it. Those
are the trophies every every night. So yeah, that that
that was an important deal.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
I love that cult Ford. Okay, So new album out.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
A little bit out there, a little bit out there,
a little bit out there.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Number seven.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
Yeah, go check it out. It's fun. There's something for everybody.
I tried to give you a little bit of everything
that I do from the beginning to work, including the
new stuff. I've really singing a lot more, and uh,
there's there's some there's some fun really banger songs on there. Really.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Yes, you're back, He's back, Cope forward. Thank you so
much for joining us.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
It's just so fun. Bye bye h
