Welcome to the Set Free Sisterhood Podcast — where we ditch alcohol, heal deeply, and step into our God-given purpose. Hey Sister — let’s get honest. Are you tired of waking up at 3am with your heart racing, your mind spinning, and that pit in your stomach that whispers “What’s wrong with me?” You hide it well. You show up, you smile, you juggle all the things. But behind the scenes, you’re stuck in this cycle: Drink, regret, repeat. And deep down, you know it’s costing you — your peace, your purpose, your joy, and your connection with God. I’m Michelle Porterfield — a faith-fueled, no-nonsense coach who helps Christian women break free from the grip of alcohol, heal what’s underneath it, and create a life they actually want to wake up to. I’ve walked this road. I know the fear, the shame, and the lies the enemy loves to whisper. And I also know the freedom waiting for you on the other side. This podcast is your safe, faith-filled space to get real, do the work, and become the woman God created you to be — bold, healed, and completely set free. If you’re ready, let’s do this. Have you ever made it through a long, stressful day and thought, “I deserve a drink”?
Maybe you’ve been taking care of everyone else, working, running the house, dealing with family, making decisions all day—and that glass of wine feels like the one thing that’s finally for you.
But what if the drink isn’t really what you’re craving?
In this episode of Set Free Sisterhood, we’re diggi...
Can I ask you something?
Do you know what you want anymore?
Not what your husband wants.
Not what your kids need.
Not what your boss expects.
Not what everyone else thinks you should be doing.
What do YOU want?
Because somewhere along the way, a lot of women lose themselves.
We become the mom.
The wife.
The caretaker.
The responsible one.
The employee.
The business owner.
The one everyone calls when they need something.
And eventua...

What if the drink isn't the thing you want?
What if you want to NOT FEEL?
Maybe you're angry.
Lonely.
Anxious.
Disappointed.
Overwhelmed.
Resentful.
And instead of feeling it…
you po...
Maybe you don't actually want the wine.
Maybe you want RELIEF.
You've been making decisions all day.
Taking care of people.
Working.
Managing.
Solving problems.
Holding everything together.
And by the end of the day?
You don't want another responsibility.
You want to SHUT YOUR BRAIN OFF.
So you pour the drink.
And for a little while, it works.
That's what makes this pattern so powerful.
The problem isn't that you're stupid or weak.
...There’s a moment I hear from women all the time:
“I told myself I wasn’t going to drink tonight… and then I did.”
Maybe you’ve had that conversation with yourself more times than you’d like to admit.
You wake up determined.
You make a promise.
You tell yourself, Tonight will be different.
And then 5:00 rolls around.
You’re tired. Overwhelmed. Bored. Stressed. Lonely. Frustrated.
And ...
It’s been 8 years… but it’s not really about alcohol
A couple of weeks ago, I hit 8 years alcohol-free.
And I almost let the milestone pass without talking about it.
Not because it isn't meaningful.
It absolutely is.
But because when I think about these eight years, I don't think about a number.
I think about who I've become.
I thought I was giving up alcohol.
What I didn't realize was how much I was making room ...
Can we talk about something that is really hard for so many moms?
Your kids growing up.
Because here's the thing nobody tells you...
Parenting doesn't end when they turn 18.
The worries just change.
When they were little, you worried about scraped knees, grades, and whether they were eating enough vegetables.
Now you worry about:
Are they making good choices?
Are they happy?
Are they struggling?
Are they walking with God?
Are they ...
Can I ask you a question?
Who takes care of the caregiver?
The woman who remembers every appointment.
The woman who checks in on everyone.
The woman her adult children call when life falls apart.
The woman helping aging parents, loving on grandchildren, supporting her family, serving others, and somehow trying to keep herself together.
Maybe that's you.
And here's what I want you to hear today:
You matter too.
Not just because of w...
One of the questions I hear most often is this:
"What if my husband still drinks?"
Maybe that's how you've always connected.
Maybe he's perfectly happy having a beer while grilling or a glass of wine at dinner, and he doesn't understand why it's so hard for you.
Maybe you've wondered if you can really change when alcohol is still part of your home.
The answer is yes.
Your healing doesn't depend on someone else's choices.
It depends...
Have you ever noticed how quickly your mind turns against you after you mess up?
"I should know better." "Why do I keep doing this?" "I'll never change."
We think being hard on ourselves will motivate us to do better. But shame has never been a good teacher.
It keeps us stuck.
Healing doesn't happen through self-hatred. It happens through awareness, honesty, and God's grace.
In this week's episode of the Set Free Sisterhood Podcast...
Have you ever stopped to think about why some choices feel automatic?
It's not because you lack willpower.
It's because your choices flow from the person you believe you are.
For years, I believed I was "someone who drank wine to relax." That identity made drinking feel normal—even necessary. But when God began renewing my mind, something deeper changed. I no longer saw myself the same way, and my choices started changing too...
One of the things that surprises women the most when they stop overdrinking is how loud their thoughts become.
They expect to feel peaceful.
Confident.
Free.
Instead, they often find themselves battling self-doubt, overthinking, anxiety, and harsh self-criticism.
And many start wondering if something is wrong with them.
Nothing is wrong with you.
What's happening is that you've removed one of your primary coping mechanisms.
For yea...
As we head into the July 4th holiday, I want to ask you a simple question:
Do you feel free?
Not the kind of freedom we celebrate as a country.
The kind of freedom you experience in your everyday life.
Do you feel free to make choices that align with your values?
Do you feel free to show up as the woman God created you to be?
Or do you sometimes feel pulled along by habits, expectations, and patterns you've never fully questioned?
...
Most women think they need to feel better before they can change.
More motivated. More confident. More “ready.”
But that’s the trap.
Because if your progress depends on how you feel… you will keep circling the same patterns every time life gets hard.
That’s exactly why I recorded this week’s podcast episode:
“Joy Isn’t a Feeling — It’s Your Weapon (Especially When Life Fe...
You expected cravings during stress.
But nobody warned you about the cravings during the GOOD moments.
The beach trip. Date night. Girls’ night. Friday evening. Celebrations. Vacation.
And suddenly your brain says: “Wine would make this better.”
Here’s what’s actually happening:
Your brain built associations between alcohol and: ✨ reward ✨ relaxation ✨ fun ✨ connection ✨ freedom
That doesn’t mean...
Most women don't plan to stay stuck.
They don't wake up and decide:
"Let's spend another season avoiding what's really bothering me."
But that's often what happens.
Life gets busy.
Schedules fill up.
The days start running together.
The drinking continues.
The distractions multiply.
And before you know it, summer is over.
Then September arrives with a familiar feeling:
Regret.
Regret that nothing really changed.
Regret that you spe...
Have you ever looked back at a season of your life and thought:
“What was I doing?” “Why did I stay so long?” “How did I not see it?”
Maybe it was a relationship. A job. A pattern. A season of drinking. A version of yourself you barely recognize now.
And now that you’re on the other side, there’s clarity.
You can see the red flags. You can see what hurt you. You can see what you toler...
I love this podcast episode with a hormone health coach Traci Pyrz, and wow… this conversation was eye-opening.
We talked about:
how alcohol impacts the liver and hormone balance
why your liver always has to process alcohol first
everyday toxins that may be disrupting hormones
ingredients like “fragrance” that can hide hundreds of chemicals
how certain products can mimic estrogen in th...
There’s something you need to understand before you make your next “I’ll try again” promise to yourself…
This isn’t just about drinking. Or habits. Or getting your life together.
This is about what stops with you… and what continues because you didn’t.
Most women are not stuck because they can’t change.
They’re stuck because they keep managing the very thing that’s...
Most women think they have a drinking problem.
They don’t.
They have an urge problem… and a response problem.
Because here’s what no one tells you:
An urge to drink isn’t permanent. It’s not even that powerful.
It’s a wave.
It rises… peaks… and passes.
Sometimes in as little as 15–20 minutes (shoutout to Annie Grace and This Naked Mind for bringing language to this 🙌).
