Local man Gavin Thomas was one of the baton bearers for the Portsmouth leg for the Baton of Hope Walk.

The baton was held by more than 100 volunteers as they passed the baton through Portsmouth.

Started in 2023, the walk was started by two fathers reaching out in their grief. Shine Radio’s Julie Butler followed up on a previous interview with Gavin and joined him at the finish line.

The Baton of Hope is the UK’s biggest ever suicide prevention initiative. The Olympic torch-style baton is the world’s first physical icon of mental health. It’s touring the country in a relay to raise awareness of suicide and reduce the stigma of talking about it.

Jean Hick, wife of Petersfield’s first elected Mayor Ken Hick opened the new expanded Council chamber on 25 September at a ceremony with former Town Mayors and the Mayors of Whitehill and Alton.

The horseshoe table has been retained but there’s more space for the public.

Holly Henson struggled with her mental health and started using the gym. From the support she received through the GP referral scheme, and gaining more confidence, all lead to her decision to become a yoga instructor.

Now fully qualified, it has given her confidence and a drive to grow her career.

Dementia Friendly Petersfield held their autumn tea dance last Sunday. Dancers once again, performed both ballroom and latin dances before encouraging everyone up onto the dance floor.

This is the third dementia tea dance held at Churcher’s College. It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

There was an impromptu ribbon cutting last Friday (19th September) at Petersfield Heath to mark the opening of the newly refurbished toilets.

A little more work is needed before the adult changing room can be opened, but the mens, ladies, unisex and baby change facilities are now fully functional.
