Speaker 1 (00:07):
You're listening to the Wellington Mornings podcast with Nick Mills
from news Talk said.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
B Well, I read about this idea and I thought,
how brilliant schools getting off their backsides trying to raise money.
They want to build a new call. You've talked, You've
heard Max talk about it, and they're going to come
up with one hundred thousand dollars profit. Clyde Key School
has come up with this idea and the PTA chair
(00:33):
of the school.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Is Fern Hancock. Good morning for good morning.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
How are you?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
I'm I'm confused at how who came up with this idea?
Speaker 3 (00:43):
It's an amazing.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
Idea, Oh it was. It was a bit of a
team effort where the PTA ran a travel raffle every
year and Taylor swift Fever had swept our school. It
started as a bit of a joke. We said, oh,
it wouldn't have been amazing if we raffled Aras tour
tickets off as part of the travel raffle. And then
we started to look into it and one of the
mums had a friend who was a concuasion in London
(01:06):
who managed to secure gold plated, legitimate Wembley Premier tickets
for the Aristour on the nineteenth of August in London
and we had to see that the opportunities.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
So it's still on sale now and obviously Max just
bought a ticket before online, so it's still available. And
how's it selling. What do you expect to peak out at?
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Well, we've got four five hundred Lucky tickets and we've
got nine hundred and thirteen available now, so it's available
at ww dot Garalabard dot com slash Clyde Key and
things have been going like wildfire. It's been horrendously successful
and everyone's been very excited about it and it's getting quick.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Is it August this year of the concert?
Speaker 4 (01:54):
And the tickets for yes, so it's a fully paid
trip to London. We wanted to make sure that whoever
won the tickets could get there, so it's two return
their airfares to London errors to a tickets, seven nights
accommodation and some spending money. So it really is sort
of trip of a lifetime for one lucky swifty.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Wow, what happens if you want to take someone with
you you have to pay for them.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
You've still got two tickets, it's two tickets today.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
It's two tickets, so it can be two adults or
an adult and a child. Child has to be over five.
We're saying everyone needs to have a New Zealand passport
and you've got to be over eighteen to enter, just
because you need to be able to get and get
into the country and be able to get to London
and to claim the prize.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
And you're expected to make one hundred thousand dollars profit.
I mean that's an incredible little part time gig.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Isn't it.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
Oh yes, it's phenomenal. We start beg because we needed to.
We've got a leaking school with a school hall that
needs to be used for a classroom and it wasn't
for purpose, so we're going to need to upgrade that well.
The weather tightening works are being undertaken, so the money
will go to helping us make our school hall a
(03:06):
suitable for a castom, putting in toilets in kitchen and
then having it a really good fit for purpose hall
for the community. So we needed to think out of
the box and come up with something quick. So all
the money raised will be going straight back into clay
Kee School in the community.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Do you know where people are buying tickets from. Is
it all over New Zealand or is it just Wellington?
Is it just parents of Clike school kids and family
and friends.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
It started off as as family and friends and it's
sort of snowboard. It ended up on the Wellington Live
Facebook page and so it's been Wellington based. But I
think we've been getting people from around the country now.
There's just so much interest in so many Swifties desperate
to see Taylor Swift live in London. Of course, do
you know.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
What this makes me think of? Right?
Speaker 2 (03:52):
This makes me think of the fact that you might
be able to do it, be become an annual event
and be that really cool school that comes up with
a raffle every year that's everyone waits and holds out
for and then buys a ticket And do you reckon
that could be like a self perpetual in thing.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
I think it could be. This is the fourth year
of our travel Raffle and it's grown every year and
you know it's required the stars to align to be
able to do this, but we'd certainly look at doing
something like this again.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Is you're planning underway for next year's already.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
Someone's been saying that we might be on the Hunters
in Vancouver Taylor Swift tickets. So we've just watched the space.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Well, why would you do Taylor Swift to get us that?
Can you do something completely different, like a NBA game
or a if you want to keep the British thing
going down, the Premier League game or something.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
I'm not sure. I think one of the things about
Taylor Swift is that it's sort of like the Golden
Willi Wanka ticket of our era. So there's so many
her fan base bands, such a massive demographic, and of
course she didn't play in New Zealand, so I think
there's a lot of it's very age appropriate for the
school as well, so the student's primary school students that
(05:04):
were really into Taylor Swift. It's something that keeps, you know,
our community really engaged and excited.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Yeah, and it's kind of like everything else demographic. It's demographically,
it's your school, it's everything. It's your school.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
I get that. I get that totally. I just thought
that you could be that, you know, new.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Yeah, it's good.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
It's a good idea. Maybe, yeah, just keep I won't
I won't say never.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
No no, And it's just such a great idea. Congratulations.
I think it's amazing. I think it's an incredible story.
And if you come out making one hundred k, what
a great side hustle. I want to try that. I'm
thinking of doing something.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
Like that myself. What a good idea. Was it much
of a problem?
Speaker 4 (05:38):
You have to I think you have to do it
for your for charitable purposes. So the school's are work
as a registered charity, so you can't just go ahead
and do it yourself. But yeah, it's been a great
way and we've pulled our bakesale money to buy the tickets,
so it's a great way for the school to be
am to leave Bridge to really in some cash to
do the haul up.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
What would you have done if it didn't sell.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Well, we would have just if we're broken even we'd
be happy and in otherwise we would have been funding
someone to go to London to honor the Rafels. So
there was a little bit of risk there, but I
think everyone was pretty certain that our community that we'd
be able to sell the tickets that we needed to.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Well done.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Can you can you let us know when you've got
a window and love to interview the winner? How good
a story would that be?
Speaker 4 (06:25):
Absolutely. We'll be in touch and we really appreciate the
support and the shout out on your money program.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
Give us that website again and we'll put it on
our website so everyone can buy a ticket. If Max
has already bought a ticket, we'll all have to buy
a ticket. So give us that again, please phone.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
That's www dot Galabird dot com slash Clyde.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Key Okay, we'll put that.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
On our nine one hundred and three tickets left. Okay,
get in quick.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
All right, and you can buy them obviously with the
credit cards. You've got all that facility all set up out.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
Yeah, there's a small cart fee, but that's pretty usual
these data perfect.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Well, we'll put it on our Wellington Morning's Facebook page
as well and help you out and hopefully it becomes
a well it is a great success. Great thanks for
talking to us, Fern and Waite. We'll wait with bita
breath to interview the winner.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Yeah, well, you know, thanks so much, Thank.
Speaker 3 (07:11):

Speaker 2 (07:13):

who is the PTA chair.
