Speaker 1 (00:07):
You're listening to the Wellington Mornings podcast with Nick Mills
from News Talk sat B Higgs you releases and keeping
tabs on local artists. It's music time on Wellington Mornings.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Right over.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
It's that time of the week. We do it every
two weeks on a Tuesday, at about twenty to twelve
we bring James Irwin and from his studio to our studio.
We're looking down a bit of a rabbit hole this morning.
Good morning, James, Good morning. A bit of a rabbit
hole this morning. All the music because there's been so
many stories going with people and saying, hey, you can't
use my music, you can't use this, you can't use that.
You know, Trump's been getting in a lot of trouble.

(00:45):
We're going down a rabbit hole with all the music
associated with the US alexing. Come on, James, you tell
me what you want.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
You know, as America quite possibly Rick rolls itself towards
a climate change rising tide of fascism. To start off,
I've got a BSA complaint worthy hack version of the
Starstank Spangled Banner, five art us singing the worst possible
renditions of it.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
So I've chopped it up. I even missed a few words.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Actually, so that's where your b s A complaint comes in,
because I butchered your butcher you anthem.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
Sorry, sorry America.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
And uh so we've got just so you can hear
the first one, which is terrible, Roseanne Bar.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
We've got Carl Lewis, the.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Sprinter, obviously renowned for his great singing, Fergie from the
Black Eye, Pa Shuka Khan, and a country singer, a
drunken country singer called Ingrid andress to finishing off, Let's
have a listen, Roseanne.

Speaker 5 (01:35):
Bar, Carl Lewis, I'd say stick to sprint.

Speaker 6 (01:46):
Yeah, exactly, Fergie, the windows are shaking, Shaka Khan.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
These were at basketball games.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Oh that was terrible. I saw that.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
That's terrible, the All Star games.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
I love kh And here's our country singer this year,
twenty twenty four, who checked him too rehab straight after
this one.

Speaker 6 (02:11):
Oh, absolute cracker at the ends.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
So we'll hold on. Here we go, Here we go,
brace yourself.

Speaker 6 (02:19):
Oh, here we go.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
So all b say complained straight to Ethan here and
the producers both he'll be taking them up.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
People are complaining himself.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
So that I finished.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Conditional anthem didn't we just so then I thought, well,
let's have a look at what's.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Been going on.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
We've got We've got Trump and Kamala Harris both doing
lots of songs, and you know, and music is a
big proportion, you know, a big portion of his campaigns,
and it makes people feel united. You know, you hear
a song you like, you think I'm part of that.
So I kind of went through and had a look
at all the tracks and bits and pieces that they're playing.

(03:03):
You know, Trump at the moment has had thirty eight
seas and desists from musicians, thirty eight Yep, Queen Riehannah Creed, Farrell,
Farrell Springsteen, Neil Young, Steve Tyler, Arim, Rolling Stones, Ozzy Osborne,
the State of Tom Petty Village People, Prince Celine Dion,
food Fighters.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
The list goes on, and I'm.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Just to say, you're not going to read the whole.
I'm going to please.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
Some of them.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Trump himself, he's a huge I had a bit of
a look around. His favorite song of all time is
Peggy Lee's nineteen sixty nine hit Is That All There Is?
And also Elvis Suspicious Minds.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
I thought that was quite appropriate.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
He's a big fan of Line or Richie and Pavarotti.
So he's got a big wide view, you know, wide
wide bass there. You know, he's got a lot of
backing from artists, but not heaps of musicians because musicians
usually tend to be a bit more on.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
The liberal side.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
I would say, So, we've got kid Rock, We've got
Karne West, We've got a whole lot of weird rappers
with tattoos on their faces that you wouldn't look at
them and think you're a Trump fan, but they are.
Then we've got the likes of Hulk Hogan, Mel Gibson,
Dana White from you know, from what do you call it? That?

Speaker 4 (04:15):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Here's some of the songs he's been using in his
and they're all very quite narcissist songs.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
I would say, let's have it.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
I say, peasibly with some of his most popular songs
on the campaign trail.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
Very identifying with it. You know, the key part of
his bass, great great thrip.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Himself cranky, he did it his way. The next one,
the stag has come out and asked him to stop
using it as well as next one. Nothing compares to you,
nothing compares to him.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
That was another one of the court cases.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
And then this is the kid Rock but I don't
really know this music, and this is a rehash of
sweeth Home Alabama original.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
But let's keep rolling on Camilla.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
She said her favorite album of all time when she
was V while she was VP a few years back,
Stevie Wonder Songs and The Key of Life. That's impeccable
taste right there. I would say, I imagine you would
be a fan of that album as well.

Speaker 4 (05:24):
That's just an absolute top ten for me.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Musicians supporting you know, the list is huge, Lady Gaga,
Barbis Streis and Billy Ellish, Beyonce, Sheer, James Taylor, John
bo Jovi, Madonna, Moby Pink, Now, Young Ricky Martin, Stevie Nicks.
The list goes on and on, and a lot of
the songs she's been using.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
In her campaign that's have listened to some of them, Okay,
a bit more not so much about herself. This is
Freedom by Beyonce, Respect, Aretha.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
For Killer, I've Enough, the one a lot that's been
used a lot, This next one Ariander Grande, You Believe God.
God is a woman, and the Queen Diana Ross so
none of them were like big likes.

Speaker 4 (06:25):
Yeah, not huge classic songs.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
So then also we've got Trump had a bit of
a fail with this next one, I'm gonna play where
he choose the theme to the Titanic, And of course
the Dems got on board and compared his campaign to
the nineteen twelve sinking of the Titanic.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
The meme Queen's got on board.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
And then straight after that, you're gonna hear a father
daughter combo where they're both on either sides, both superstars
and a little bit of frictionate Thanksgiving dinner.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
Let's have a listen. So we all know this one.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Beautiful.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
So they had a lot of fun with that, the
Democrats against Trump. Now Billy Ray Trump fan.

Speaker 5 (07:08):
And Billy resairis is here.

Speaker 6 (07:10):
Where's Billy Ray's around here some place?

Speaker 5 (07:13):
He's a conservative?

Speaker 4 (07:14):
Guys said, how did you get such a liberal daughter?

Speaker 5 (07:16):
How did that happen?

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Billy rew.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
So a bit of fun there, So taxicab, everybody's looking
at me. What else we've got? I went round the
I went round the building yesterday. I mean we could
look at other campaigns. I went back and had a
look big one Trump's campaign in twenty sixteen was twisted, sister,
We're not going to take it, Obama, big one, our green,
Let's stay together. Hillary, she had I'm a Believer. Bill

(07:44):
Clinton went back with Fleetwood Mac, don't stop.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
George W. Bush he had Tom Tom Pitty.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
I went back down and I went round.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
The office quickly and said, Hey, what you know, what,
what would you.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Pick if you were a winner? What would you pick?
What would be your presidential winning song? And this is
kind of a couple of cliches.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
You are the champion for me?

Speaker 5 (08:04):
Yeah, there we go.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
That was the number one for every every sports team,
that's every Yeah, that's what you play off for the show.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
It's na fast.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
It's a couple of these I don't necessarily agree with,
but that was the Nah.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
You are the champions, the only one. Yeah, that's just quickly, James,
because we've only got fifty seconds and forty seconds. But
have you had a look? Have you spent much time
listening to the new Fat Freddy's Drop.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
I've been listening to it and we had a discussion
out in the office today. If you're a Fat Freddy's
Drop fan, you're gonna love it. It's it's classic Fat
Freddy's Drop, but if it's also was a bit of
a you in the office that they can't distinguish it
between album six, album three, album one. I listened to
it on the way back from your Plymouth on the CD.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
I did like that.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Fat Freddie Drop released it on CD and vinyl two
weeks ago and it's not released digitally until next week,
so I've been listening to it a lot. It's still
if you love them, you're gonna You're gonna love it.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
I'd love to get them in the studio where they're overseas.
They're going to big europe tour.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
But yeah with Louis Baker.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Yeah, Louis Baker, mate, Louis Baker, thank you very much.
It's lovely to have you in the studio you to
give you those music. Because we are talking from basically
now on, we're talking us elections for the next couple
of days.
