Speaker 1 (00:07):
You're listening to the Wellington Mornings podcast with Nick Mills
from news Talk said b Higgs new releases and keeping
tabs on local honors, its music time on Wellington Mornings.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Okay, James Z.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Now this all came about because we bumped into each
other on the street and someone had just asked me,
who is your favorite top five artists? So I did
to James, what is who are the biggest five artists
of our lifetime?

Speaker 4 (00:41):
And straight away we started.

Speaker 5 (00:43):
We spent there for like bantering away, No, no, that
couldn't be a what about these guys?

Speaker 4 (00:47):
What about that?

Speaker 2 (00:48):
We kind of agreed on three or four and.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
We totally did agree straight away.

Speaker 5 (00:52):
We both went bang bang bang, and that there's a
bit of a theme when I went around give us
the bank, so let's maybe let's so first of all,
I went and spoke to all our newsroom.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
Now journalists you.

Speaker 5 (01:03):
Know usually correctly no it alls had to get they
all had to get their opinions out. You know, they
were very loud when I asked that, you were very polite,
gentle we.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Were just having a nice chair.

Speaker 5 (01:15):
We got so we got kind of four in the
and the newsroom just could not agree on the fifth,
so just have it.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
Listen.

Speaker 5 (01:20):
This has kind of got your forms. The Beatles gotta
be there, no.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
No particular order, but got to be in top five.
What a terrible Beatles song.

Speaker 5 (01:33):
Yeah, chose that, Coops, Michael Jackson, she got to be there.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Gotta be there, Gotta be there. Great song. Much a
bet a choice of song, gotta be there. I've listened
to Alvis all the time. Of the moment mag Lever
sent Taylor Swift. Yeah, you see.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
My argument with Taylor Swift is I know she's a
billionaires and she's the biggest thing since you know whatever.
Will we remember her songs in thirty or forty years time?

Speaker 5 (02:09):
Well, you know what, because when I started chucking these
cuts together, I did not know one Taylor Swift song. Now, now,
when we were talking, we were talking not just the
biggest artists of all times. Like people have made a
cultural impact maybe on the world, Like they almost become
a brand, a phenomenon, you know, like so not just hey,
Like the Eagles are one of the most sold albums

(02:33):
of all times, their greatest hits, particularly in America. It
is the biggest selling album of all times worldwide. Thriller
is actually the biggest selling.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
I thought it was.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
Yeah, so I looked that up this morning, whether my
stats are right. In the US, definitely the Eagles, But
I don't think the Eagles made a cultural impact like
some of the like the Beatles brought in were probably
Elvis brought in rock and roll and made it this
mischief thing acceptable and got people upset. But then the

(03:01):
Beatles expanded on the rock and roll and became kind
of you know that their cultural impact was just massive.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
So there's lots of art.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
What did the newsroom say, Well.

Speaker 5 (03:14):
Yeah, the newsroom they they kind of went with your
for Taylor Swift one. I know, Max, the newsreader was
definitely against Taylor Swift being anywhere near that. Now, if
you're a listener, textan to al Texan right now, because
you're probably yelling at I know, there's lots of people.
I can feel. I can feel the vibe. There's people
yelling already at us saying who you know. The newsroom

(03:35):
just could not agree. They had we had Oasis banded about,
we had Nirvana, we had Elton John, we had Pink Floyd,
we had Queen, we had David Bowie, so you know,
it was great ax but not top and were they
cultural impacting the world?

Speaker 2 (03:51):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
You see my fifth I worked out my fifth right.
I went with Elvis, Michael Jackson, Beatles, Taylor Swift and
I couldn't give you my face, You couldn't.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
My first I thought this.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Morning was Beg's Yeah yeah. And as they went from
the young kids ye to being the to go queens.

Speaker 5 (04:07):
And brought in a whole new era of music, so
you could you could be right there. Hey, let's have
a listen to the females of INtime. This does include
a few of the journalists, but.

Speaker 6 (04:16):
There's a bit of a theme going on here. Celine Dion,
She's got to be in the in the conversations. Yeah, yeah,
what you Houston, got to be in the conversation, got.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
To be in the conversation.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
What's our theme? Just Madonna, I've got to be in
the conversation.

Speaker 4 (04:37):
In the conversation, the conversation. That's Taylor Swift.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Taylor Swift definitely gonna be in the conversation.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
With a woman of ini me kick going.

Speaker 5 (04:54):
And then ever, there's a theme there female all female artists.
Well ever, you know there's some guys in there, but yeah, okay,
all female artists. I noticed that was and you know what,
all the f of ends and me, that's our company
here for news talks.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
There b were very definitive. They weren't.

Speaker 5 (05:11):
They weren't dilly dallying around like the newsroom or like
the creative department or the audio engineers who all dilly
dallied and argued. They were just like bang bang bang bang,
Celine die On, Whitney, Houston, Madonna, those three straight away
came up with pretty much all the females and Taylor
Swift and and like you say before, I don't know
if Taylor Swift's going to be having her songs redone

(05:33):
and redone and Redone over. You know in fifty years time,
we're not going to be redoing a Taylor Swift song.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
I don't think yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
And Coops has just told us that Texas comes in
rolling stones. Why are rolling stones not in the question?
They should be somewhere about.

Speaker 5 (05:43):
Well, should we ever listen to a little James's? So
what I did with.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Myne what's your five? My five were.

Speaker 5 (05:49):
Close to yours, but I decided I was going to go.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
I was going to pick up the dregs.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
So to speak, So all the ones that haven't been
in so far, you too, especially the eighty Theory, Rolling Stones, Huge.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
I don't argue with Lauren Stone.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
Here's Bob Dylan.

Speaker 5 (06:15):
He's got to be there somewhere, change the whole political outlook.
I don't like Bob Dylan myself.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
I mean, I don't think you put him down in
Oh okay, what.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
About Dolly Dolly sit phenomenon word?

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Yeah, songwriting, I mean songwriting.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
Someone says Elvis and the Beatles are not rock and
roll Bill Haley, and but yeah, that's great, one of
the greatest of all types.

Speaker 5 (06:42):
So you know, led Zeppens didn't even come into the mix.
We're around the room when I started.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Because it's one era.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
It's one era, and it didn't cross didn't cross over, hey,
And then we could get all crazy and go what
about Latino artists? You know, Julio Iglesias, Gloria Estefound Huge,
sold hundreds and hundreds of To Go Hindi, the Nightingale
of India, who was pretty much did sit decades of
being a Bollywood singer in all the movies.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
Latter man, guess.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
Give me, give me your five one to five.

Speaker 5 (07:16):
Okay, yeah, well mine, Mine is very close to yours.
I think the Beatles, I think m J, I think
Elvis in my top three.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
I probably would squeeze. You know, I'd be arguing you've
had two weeks to think about.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Five. Give us your five.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Still undecided, but very similar to yours.

Speaker 5 (07:36):
The only thing i'd swap out Beg's maybe from Madonna.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Yeah, okay, And I don't argue with that.

Speaker 5 (07:41):
A couple of people around the building did they desperately wanted,
you know, like new artists, like what's his name is coming?

Speaker 4 (07:49):
We talked about him. It's Sharon.

Speaker 5 (07:50):
But I don't think he's Yeah, yes, he sold albums
and he's selling out and well, you know in New
Zealand and.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
But I don't think he's a cultural I don't think.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
I think I think he's definitely a cultural thing. I
think it's definitely I've been watching it.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
Now, Rolling Stones.

Speaker 5 (08:03):
I went through Rolling Stone and like you listening, said
Chuck Beer, Rolling Stones, Elvis, Bob Dylan, and the Beatles
is rolling Stones top five cultural?

Speaker 4 (08:12):
What about AI?

Speaker 2 (08:13):
We love the AI?

Speaker 3 (08:14):
The can I just interrupt you a second because I'm
getting that from my producer that they will we want
to know what's happening with hut Sounds, because that's been
a now and you're the man on that.

Speaker 4 (08:25):

Speaker 5 (08:44):
