Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to another episode of I Tell You What. Hello.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Good morning guys.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
Well, good morning Chris. How are you.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
I'm great. I'm happy to be talking to you guys
and talking about the new music. But first we got
to get this out of the way. Doves is in
Key West.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Yeah, yes, isn't that lame?

Speaker 2 (00:18):
I love that you. We all get up early and
you know, we're just doing interviews and Doves is just lounging.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
And he just started here. He just started like a
few weeks ago, and it's like, how do you get
that in your deal? And I've been here like ten
years and I haven't had Key West of my plans
at all. So he left last week and he gets
back like next Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
He's gonna hear like this interview back later and just
be like, what the hell? I was attacked and I
couldn't defend myself.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Absolutely, And we're going to record some things outside of
this interview that will specifically target him with so hold
the line.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
So dude, he got a lot of good things going on.
This is like, there's a lot of new going on
in your world right now. Yeah, new label, yet, new song.
We played a new song till the Last One Dies.
Last week had the iHeart premiere. You've got more ads
than you've ever had on an AD before. I mean,
just kind of put us into your world right now
if you would.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yeah, broke a record, which is always fun to do
with the very first song with a new label. You know.
Obviously moved over to Black River. My my deal was up,
and I guess to play free agent for the first
time in a very long time and had an amazing,
amazing connection with everybody over there, decided that's where I
wanted to go. And then obviously we've we've started fast

(01:35):
out of the gate with Till the Last One Dies.
Just this, you know, beautiful love song. It's going into
wedding seasons. So if anybody is looking for a song
for your wedding, for your first dance, I mean, I'm
not saying you got to use this one, which could
it's a good idea. It's a great song for that. Yeah, literally,
everything is amazing. It's been a whole lot of work

(01:57):
over the beginning of the year, which I thought was
going to be fairly tame, and then I was like,
well that's out the window. But it's been awesome.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
You're busy though, because on top of that, right now
you're on the road on tour, right, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
And there's stuff always happening like behind the scenes too.
Like I ran into a friend of mine yesterday and
it was like I stayed up on Wednesday because there
were constant tornado sirens going off, so I didn't get
any sleep. I was downstairs with my dogs and then

(02:30):
ended up finally getting to like sleep for an hour
and fifteen minutes, went straight to the airport, set at
the airport because they wouldn't anybody take off. Then we
finally got to take off, went to Miami. They went
from Miami to San Diego. They went from San Diego
back to Nashville, and then you know, it's just been
interviews and all kinds of stuff. But good, good reasons
to be busy. I'll take it.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
I'm a little I'm a little I gotta be square.
I'm a little disappointed, and I don't I don't make
fun of the tragedy or anything with the weather. I'm
honestly not, and I am prepared to take crap for this.
But you're the first guy I've ever talked to that
went to the basement with a tornado. I go outside.
I gotta go look.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
No, no, no, he's got to.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Go out on the deck.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
I know.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
I'm not Chris Young, and I got this wonderful life
of great music and touring and I owe things to
my fans. I'm Chris, I'm Chris Carr. I'm just this
dis jockey in Minnesota. I gotta go out and see
what's going on. Let's then sirens go off. I'm outside.
What's going on? Dude.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Here's here's the thing. When what time was this event
that you went through where you stepped outside? Oh?

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Mine the time? Oh yeah, it's whatever. I mean pretty much,
pretty much whatever, to be honest with you. Now, if
it's in the middle of the night, I usually just
sleep through it, you know.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Well that's that's the thing is all of them were
in the middle of the night, and they were like
backbuilding and it was for like five hours, and then
there was flash flooding everywhere. So this was not These
were like all rain wrapped and nighttime tornadoes, which is
not a good time to walk outside and try and
see it in the dark.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Okay, Chris weather shamed, right, you should feel they're getting
hit with awful Oh dude. People rip me on the
air talking about this too. It's like, first thing I
do and I hear siren, I go outside. You got
to see what's going on, you know. But what it's raining? Though,
I do say I go and what it's raining? No,
I'm not that madly, I don't want to know what.
So in Young Love and Saturday Nights, whose idea was

(04:19):
it to use rebel? Rebel?

Speaker 2 (04:21):
So that was actually done intentionally. That was another song
that I didn't have a part in writing. I only
produced these two, but Young Love, which obviously think you
guys were playing it well number one, but that that
song was intentionally done when Sony Publishing bought the catalog

(04:45):
and they wanted to make like the catalogs are ever green,
and they went with that song specifically to try and
make something using that lick, so that it was sort
of a callback. And you know that was David Bowie
was listed as as a writer as well on that,
so it's posthumously for him. Having a number one in
country music was just kind of a crazy coincidence of

(05:09):
all that stuff coming together and me being one of
the first people to hear the song.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
So it's so cool because there's such a gap in
time between the two, and it got people guessing it's
like what is that. So many people when you first
played it, it's like what is it? And I'm thinking
it's Suffragette City. It's like, no, it's not. It's Rebel Rebel,
And I just thought it was really cool, kind of
easter egg like in a way. We love the song.
It's great intro, it's a great song, and now you're

(05:33):
onto a song that actually has more ads than that
one out of the gate. So you're doing well, dude.
I'm glad that you're staying safe. I'm glad you're not
going outside chasing tornadoes. Thank you. Is there anything else
we could do for you up here in Minnesota?

Speaker 2 (05:46):
No, you guys do enough for me in my career,
and you're playing the song, so I just thank you
for doing that and getting the word out about the
new music.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Do you have any parting words for the person that's
not here, who's selected to not be here for this interview.
He chose to be in Key West instead of talking
to Chris Young. Do you have any choice words for
that person whose name is Dubbs.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Yeah, it's it's okay, man. Look I get it. Sometimes
you have to get a new job and grind, and
sometimes you get a new job and go to Key West,
whatever you want to do.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
I love you.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
I'm gonna be in trouble next time I talk to you. Guys.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
You do not know the memories that you are making
right now. It's beautiful. Yeah, yeah, no backstage passes for dubs. Well, Chris,
we miss you. Come back as soon as you can.
We will never forget you did our first secret show
for us, and Chris Young will always be a pleasant
memory in the eyes of our audience and all the
great songs to come.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Dude, Thank you, thank you, Hey, thank you, guys. I
appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Talk to you soon about all right.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Don't stand on the porch.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Nice. That was fun. He's fun. Another episode of I
