Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to another episode of I Tell You What.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
I guess this is something that we've already known, but
now according to the rest of the nation, it's now
in front of them, and now the rest of the
nation can know.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Sam.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Yeah, apparently Minnesota is officially the nicest state in the country.
This is according to some new survey. I guess, I
don't know. They asked a bunch of people and Minnesota
came through as the friendliest state.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
So we always said Minnesota and nice. We always felt
that there was a difference here. Obviously, to have that
term Minnesota and ice it means something. I guess I
always took it for granted. I thought we were the
nicest state all the time, but I guess that's not
true because Texas was deemed the nicest state.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yeah, which I think Texas is cool. Yeah, I mean,
I think there is something to be said about like
southern charm and being and there is something to that.
But I was a little surprised to see that Texas
has been consistently the friendliest state. But now you've got
the top five Minnesota, Tennessee, South Carolina, then Texas. So
Texas really pissed some people off and then Wyoming also.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
So can I ask we always kind of compare Wisconsin
Minnesota essentially very like people, like minded people, very similar.
The Dakota's in Iowa. Same correct, So what happened with
Wisconsin the Dakota's in Iowa? Well, what made them not
even in the top five or ten?
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Do you think that it's a branding issue, like a
pr issue? Where I do, because Minnesotan's really somehow took
over this whole Minnesota nice term. You don't hear Wisconsin nice,
You don't hear South Dakota nice or anything like that.
You hear Minnesota nice. And whether or not you think
it's accurate, I think it gets kind of ingrained in
(01:43):
people's brains. And so when they hear nice state, friendly state, whatever,
then I think it's like we've got this branding campaign. Yeah,
because when I think Wisconsin, I think drunk state, which
is nice?
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Do you think but Wisconsin nice? That was their moniker? Sure,
I mean it used to be a long time ago
before Minnesota it was Wisconsin ice.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Okay, See I hadn't heard that.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
No, because but they changed it because everyone thought they
were saying Wisconsin ice.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Oh, so it just didn't flow as well. Are you
making that up? You're totally making it?
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Why would you ask that?
Speaker 3 (02:19):
I just feel like you are because you have like this.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
You know, I can't stop my face because I was
totally making that up because it sounded so real.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
For a second there you had me. You sounded like.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Maybe that's true, though we may want to look that up.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
I don't think that's I think they were branding.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
It Wisconsin ice Wisconsin ice, but then it came out
and it sounded like Wisconsin ice and they wanted to
kind of distance the distance themselves from the polar thing,
the cold thing.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Do you buy that, noue? Does that mean I.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Could if I never knew about Wisconsin, like if you
I've never been to Wisconsin, Like, oh, I could see it?
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Okay, And what's what you're saying?
Speaker 2 (02:54):
What you what you hate Wisconsin is what you're saying.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Are in general? Yeah, but you're a fit.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Oh you just hate Milwaukee just because they beat the
Cubs and they put the big lift. Okay, Wisconsin ice.
It sounds more like Wisconsin ice then Wisconsin nice. So yeah,
so I think they had it first and then they
just gave it to Minnesota. Minnesota bought it, bought the
rights to it, and then and then branded it. And
Wisconsin's like, you go ahead and be a nice and
(03:21):
we're just not gonna have anything to do with Ice
because it reminds us too.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Much of nice.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Did you come up with that on the fly?
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Absolutely, it's pretty impressive, you know what that it almost
sounds psychotic.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
I believe it though I would believe it. So what
do you want to ask on talkback?
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Well, I just want to know iHeart Radio app.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Have it on.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
You're gonna need it anyway because we're gonna do secret
show tickets through the iHeart Radio app. Coming up on
Camical two just after six and get ready to use
talkback the little red microphone.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
But do you agree?
Speaker 2 (03:49):
I mean, does this does this surprise you at all?
Do you think Minnesota shouldn't be Dean Minnesota and Ice?
Does it surprise you? Because I mean there's a lot
of people, a lot of rep in the state. Like
I have family that live all over the place, and
they're like, what's going on up there? You know, because
the last few years it doesn't look very Minnesota and Ice.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
No, maybe we should ask me.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Made the news for a lot of negative reasons.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah, like, what's a good example of Minnesota nice, because
we hear a lot about the Minnesota not so nice.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Well, I saw the report, and the report talked about
a place. A nice place is what place you can
leave your keys in your car nobody'll steal it.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Well, don't do that, no, I mean that's all you
hear about.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Yeah, yeah, you can't. Even if you have your car locked.
You're probably gonna lose your catalytic converter depending on where
you park it. But hey, it's a branding thing.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
They just buy it.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
They just buy it. They hear Minnesota and ice and
they're like, yeah, that sounds right.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Oh, I guess he just needed it for his car.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Yeah, dude, you know what's one he needed it more
than me. Yeah, he needed the catalytic converter. And I
don't even have a Cadillac. Dude, I wouldn't even know
where that is on the bottom of a car.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Neither would I don't. I wouldn't.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
I think it's I think it's like I have things
in the middle of the car, isn't it? Doesn't it
what they're like the muffler, like the exhaust connects to
why are those bad boys worth so much and then
people paint the orange or something.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Right, Yeah, yeah, if you try to turn them in
there work.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
Can't they just paint them brown and then just turn
them in? I mean, why can't you say brown from
like yeah, like the wear and tear.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, just paint them a rust color and say here,
dirty it up a little bit, put some mud on.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
I'm not trying to give people ideas.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Well.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
I think that now I think that places that accept
catalytic converters to sell them, I think now they're supposed
to check for things like serial numbers or something etched
into it, or some kind of paint or something.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
So what is your thought on Minnesota nice? Talk back
on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Just listening to you guys talking about Minnesota nice. I
think that's a scam. With all the shootings and killings
daily in Minnesota, how can it be Minnesota nice?
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Well, I would argue that the majority of Minnesota's are nice.
We're not trying to scam anybody.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Well, we're not. We don't have anything to do with this.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
The culture of Minnesota is not trying to scam anybody.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Well, no, but we were talking about a branding thing
that's by design, like the Department of Tourism.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
I am maybe it is a scam. Maybe this guy's right.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Listen, I'm one of the first people, especially in Minnesota media,
that will call out some of the some of the
cities for the behavior, your farious behavior. I ain't got
no problem with that. But I think that Minnesota for
the most part, is genuinely a very nice place. We
have a great culture here. It's just that there's some
there's some bad eggs that are that are busting around
(06:47):
and causing problems.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Are we going to change the name of Minneapolis to
murder applis.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Some people have already have already done that.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Yeah, sadly, Well, you can't change Saint Paul.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
I mean, that's Paul the possible.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
No, you can't do it.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
No.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
And to be fair, you do hear a little bit
more about like violence, not in Saint Paul, but more
so Minneapolis.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Used to be the other way a long time ago.
You'd be the judge. Thanks for listening to this episode
of To You Up.
