Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to another episode of Tell You What Hello?
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Hello? Is this Chris?
Speaker 1 (00:05):
Yeah? Hey, Jason?
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Hey, Hey, what's that man? How are you?
Speaker 1 (00:08):
Dude? Let's go out, dude, you're right on time? Wow?
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Oh yeah, that's awesome.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
What you got a tea time you gotta make or something?
Speaker 2 (00:21):
No, a flight, actually a flight. I do have to
catch a flight later today. I'm just usually very punctual
when it comes to these things because I know you.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Guys are on the air, So I can't imagine the
level of respect that just went through the roof for
you from all of us. I can't. I wish I
could bottle that energy. Hey, thanks for calling. You're coming
to town. We're excited.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Hey, I appreciate it. Man works, come see you guys.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
So you're gonna be up here, and you got a
new single? How far does a goodbye go? And have
you ever heard I wanted to ask you real quick,
have you ever heard of the phrase Minnesota goodbye or
the term Minnesota goodbye?
Speaker 2 (00:54):
No?
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Okay, Minnesota goodbye is like people try to say goodbye,
but it takes. So if you were to do that
song here, you better make it about forty five minutes
long because it's just a really long, long thing. How
far does a Goodbye Does a Goodbye Go? Tell me
about the tune a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
It's really cool. It's it's a song that was written
by a couple of my bandmates and John Morgan, John Edwards,
our little team of writers that we have that have
been writing a ton of stuff for us lately. But
they wrote this thing and it was I don't know.
I heard it for the first time and they sent
it to me and they're like, I think we might
have our first single and or something that was at
(01:32):
least a contender for a first single, And as soon
as I heard it, I was like, yeah, I mean
that's it's no brainer. This is gonna be it. You know.
It's kind of like a little bit of a throwback
to some of our stuff that you know, older stuff,
but it's once you hear the rest of the song
kind of mixes in the new stuff. So it's a
It's just a really cool song, very well written, and
one of those songs to me, I just feel like
(01:53):
when you put it up against anything else in my
catalog or whatever, it feels to me. I'm not saying
it's gonna be but it to me, like it's one
of those songs that it's kind of an instant classic
that slides in there with with songs like the Truth
and uh, you know any Old Barstool and those kind
of things. Are you know any of those songs and
just kind of feels like it slides right into place,
(02:14):
right in there with those things. And so I'm excited
for people to check it out.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
So how does the bride feel about it, because she
has to kind of have a say too, right, No,
not really, ooh, your relationship is a lot different than mine.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
But no, they of course they always have an opinion.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
I got that right now.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
I bounced stuff off of her all the time, honestly,
you know, she she's really good at, you know, bouncing
things off of me. And like, I really love that one.
And I don't know that was just okay and or
you know, I can just tell when I play her
something or she loves it or not. And but we
also have two very different styles of music that we like.
(02:57):
You know, she she loves country, but she also loves like,
you know, pop and and even hip hop and you
know different ninnies. You know, she's a big nineties girl,
so she likes that stuff where I'm more country rock
and roll, southern rock kind of stuff like that. And
so there's some things I player I'm like, I know
you're not gonna like this, but check it out. And
then there's other things I know she's gonna love and
(03:20):
you know that kind of thing. But she she loves
this when she's she's a big fan of the single
for sure.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Typical marriage. He goes in with the defeatist attitude, You're
probably not gonna like this, but I'll.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Get it. Like a song like my kind of party
is a song like if I would was to play
that for her now and be like, hey, check this
this rocker I got, you know, she'd be like, I
mean it's okay, you know, like like like a burning
it down. She she loved that when I played it
for her, she was like all over that one. So
you know, stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Oh my gosh. Well, I just love Brittany. I think
that you two have just the most beautiful family. My
husband and I are expecting our first baby. What advice
do you have for us?
Speaker 2 (03:59):
As a part congrat thank you, congratulations off. The second
of all, my advice for you would be to sleep
as much as you can possibly sleep right now before
before that baby's born.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
How long you got do in November, so it's coming
up fast.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yeah, get some sleep. That's the biggest That's that was
my biggest thing. It's just like, you know, the the
up all night because our kids didn't sleep through the
night until you know, nine ten months old, nine months old,
maybe it was a while, so we were exhausted. So
that that's always my advice to anybody. But the rest
(04:35):
of it just kind of you just kind of figure
it out. I mean, you know it just that's where
instincts take over and you're just like cause you have
a baby, and then like two days later they send
you home with this thing and going all right, well
go keep it alive. That's like have a website or
anything that right going on. That's great, and they just
(04:59):
then you it's amazing to figure it out. So congratulations,
Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
I really appreciate that a lot. Dubbs and Jason, So
your daughter's learning guitar.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
So when she gets good enough, do you have any
plans to like have her play guitar on your on
one of your albums. I mean, if it reaches that point,
that'd be awesome. My oldest daughter plays guitar. She's she's
twenty two now, but she plays guitar, like kind of
lead guitar. She's pretty good. And then kend to my
eighteen year old. She she's in the sports and stuff.
(05:28):
She likes to sing a little bit, but she's not
like super you know, like picked up an instrument or anything.
And then Memphis, maybe me put my keyboard in his room,
so he's he's got my keyboard in there. I'm hoping
he starts banging around on that thing. And the Navy
she's she's the one that sings all the time. And
then the other day she had Kurt, my guitar player,
teaching her guitar. So but we'll see how We'll see
(05:50):
how long that lasts. I don't know, but yes, I
would love for them to like jump on stage or
play on some stuff if they ever got to that
point with any of them.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Yeah, you get a pre band.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Yeah, it'd be like the Partridge Family. You may have
to explain that to some of your listeners that that
may be younger, but you guys know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
I got two of them in here that have no
idea what you're talking about, Hey, are you back at
Are you back at Cracker Barrel yet?
Speaker 2 (06:17):
I haven't been yet, but I'm willing to go now
at least you.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
Know, well they are tails between their legs now. So
I mean, I just I was just wondering if you,
you know, took a hiatus.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Well, it's Curry. I mean, it's that's a that's a
company that that you know that you built your whole
brand on, like a simpler way of life and the
old timers and you know, you go in and you
play checkers inside and you know, the kids go look
at the toys from the fifties and sixties or whatever.
It is, Like, I don't want to go in there
and feel like I'm sitting at Shoonies or Zaxby's or
(06:47):
like somewhere, like I want to feel like I'm a
Cracker Barrel. Yeah. So I just feel like it's one
of those things, man, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
And people keep messing with stuff like that, and they're
messing with it for the wrong reasons. That's the thing.
It's it's but yeah, I'm actually one of those people
that I'm glad they didn't change it. When I go
to Cracker Barrel, I want to feel like I'm going
to Cracker Barrel.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Right, will Hey, I want to ask you a question,
and I certainly don't want you to feel like you
have to answer it in any way. You could say no,
and for the record, I know that you don't have
any problem doing that, saying no, and then I'll just
move on. But listen, man, another school shooting made the
news yesterday, this time in our town, in Minneapolis Church School. Yeah,
you've been face to face with this crap, this kind
(07:27):
of crime. You have been right in front of it.
And as a society, what we talked about it all
morning at our morning show today. What are we missing
with events like this that kind of happened If this
happened to you, and it keeps happening in different ways,
different shapes, in different forms. I'm not asking for any
sound bite that is really going to make the news.
I'm just an honest Jason oldin interpretation of what happened
(07:50):
in Minneapolis yesterday or what you could say to.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Us, Yeah, you know, I don't know. I mean, it's
just sad that these kind of things continue to happen
like that, you know, so I can just hear about
it more and morning, and I don't know, you know,
to be honest, I don't really know what what's going on.
I think it's a lot of it's a mental health
issue we have in our country, whatever that is, whatever
is contributing to that. I mean, there's all there's stuff
(08:13):
going on here all the time, and you know, I
don't know. I don't know what it is or you
know what the solution is. It's just it's a sad
days as parents when you can't send your kid to
school to get an education and and you know, feel
good about the fact that they're going to come home
at the end of the day. That's a that's a
scary place to be for parents. And you know, I
(08:35):
don't know what the solution is any more than anybody
else does. It's just it's it's scary to me. It's
just a scary time. And I think, uh, mental health
and and just something in society with all that stuff
is uh is contributing to that. And you know, I
don't I don't know what it is exactly or how
to fix it exactly, but uh, it's just a it's
(08:57):
a scary thing as a parent, like I said, when
you can't. He's something as simple as sitting your kid
to school. You got to worry about some somebody that's
gonna lose it and come in there that's pissed off
about whatever it is they're pissed off about and taking
it out on people that have, you know, innocent people
that have no idea or don't care about what's going
on with that. So it's just it's it's really frustrating
(09:21):
to be honest, and you know, just my heart goes
out to the families and all that stuff. It's just
it's sad.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Thank you. We love the people that rush into help.
You've always put those people first. You're involvement with first responders.
It's really the kind of the last question that we
may have for you, and even members of our military. Anything.
People need to know that maybe they just don't for
whatever reason. When it comes to people who sign up
for these jobs, you've always supported them. Yeah, what say you?
(09:49):
I mean you you did a show for a bunch
of cops here that we brought down your show a
Treasure Round resort and casino a couple of years ago,
and you've always shown appreciation for these people.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Well, I think what they do is incredible. I mean,
you know, you're talking about people that when things are
happening and and everybody else is trying to get away
from those situations. Uh, these are the people that are
rushing into you know, rushing into the light of fire,
so to speak. And you know it's it's uh, they're
(10:20):
brave men and women. I mean, that's all I can
say is that you know they're there, no questions asked,
when it's time to go, it's you know, they're they're
they're going in full throttle and and and you know,
trying to help out. And I think that's that takes
a special person to do that, whether it's you know,
police force, first responders, military, whoever that is. You know,
(10:40):
it's like people that we count on to go in
and and regulate a situation like that, And you know,
it's it's why you know, I'm a firm believer in,
like in our police force, and those guys should be
paid well above whatever it is they're being paid. They
don't get paid enough to deal with some of the
stuff they deal with. So you know, I just I
(11:00):
have nothing but respect for those guys. And you know,
very very glad we have them in place.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
Well, we've been through the We've been through a lot
here in this town, Minneapolis for the last few years,
as noted by everything you see in the media, whether
it's hyperbole or not, it is what it is. It's
been tragic and you have taken the first responders, put
them on your shoulders and shine a light on him.
And we appreciate that here. Thank you.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Yeah. Absolutely, man.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
On a far even a heavier note, does one of
your kids want to babysit Sam's baby here in two months?
Do you have one available?
Speaker 2 (11:32):
I don't know if you trust any of my kids.
I'm doing good to get them to babysit the older
ones to babysit the younger ones sometimes, I don't know
if you want my squad over there.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
That's awesome. We always appreciate your time. Man. We know
that you get a plan to catch and thanks for
you know, checking in with us. And we're looking forward
to seeing you September sixth. That joint's going to be
full and rocking. And just hope that Minnesota we all
show up and give you our best and we know
we'll get the dot of you.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Thanks Jason, Well, I appreciate it man. Thank you guys
for having me and we'll see soon.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
Yeah, talk to you so, Bud guest. I always love
talking to Jason L. Dane because you'll just you know,
whatever's on his mind, you'll talk about it. If he
doesn't want to talk about it, you won't talk about it.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
You know what.
