Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to another episode of I Tell You What.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
It sounds a little bit different right now because Chris
is not here, so it's just me and Dubs. We
are hanging out here this morning solo and doing the
show by ourselves at least for Monday and Tuesdays this
week because Chris has flown down to Nashville to celebrate
our boss being inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Super super cool. It's a big yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yeah, it's really really neat, Like it is amazing to
see someone get credit for hard work when so well deserved.
Not to be too cheesy too, series, we'll get goofy
here in a second, But Greg Greg Swedberg is I mean,
he is an amazing human being and he's put in
a lot of work into this industry and he's impacted
a lot of people's lives.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Yeah. Actually, I know a lot of artists are thankful
to him for their careers because there's a lot of
songs that don't get played across the country that Greg's like,
you know what, We're gonna play it on K one
O two because I believe in it.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
A great recent example is Next Thing You Know by
Jordan Davis that was actually not going to be a
song that got a lot of radio play, but Greg
and Chris both heard it and they were like, the
song needs to be on the radio.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
And that's true for Cody Johnson's Maide in the USA,
because when they said, oh, we're playing Made in the USA,
I'm like, cool, this is gonna play. He goes, oh,
but the actual single is another one that, yeah, the
rest of the country's playing, we're playing Made in the USA,
And I was like, oh, right.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yeah, that's pretty cool. It's kind of neat, like it
is interesting. I've learned a lot just about the country
radio industry by being here the last few years, and
there's still tons to learn, but there's so much that
goes into it, especially when you're someone like Greg who
puts a lot of thought into you know, whose music
he's actually gonna play and which artist he's going to work.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
With, and it's just an amazing thing.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
I mean, he's been in the industry for such a
long time and finally getting the recognition that I think.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Is super well deserved. And Chris.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
I mean, if you let Chris talk about him and Greg,
it's like it is, Yeah, they've got a funny relationship. Yeah,
and if you go to like Okay one or two
social media pages, Greg is the guy that's in all
of our goofy like Chris Cartriz what videos, the Chris
Carr's dad joke videos. Those two are like two peas
in a pod, wacky weird stuff all the time.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Yeah. Oh yeah, it's like Batman and Robin.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Oh totally, totally.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
She got to ask which one's Batman and which one's Robin.
They'll both say the opposite pretty much.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Yes, yes, it's a it's so funny.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
And then they'll also I feel like they kind of
go at each other sometimes likes dogs.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Yeah, but they secretly just love and adore each other.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Yeah. So that's why it's gonna sound a little bit
different here these next two days.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
So, yeah, we're flying solo, and there's so much, so
much more that goes into putting together a good smooth.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
He is letting us run the ship. I'm nervous, and
I'm like, palms are sweaty.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
You're doing great, though, You're doing really good, you know.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
I think we cruised through day one and now we've
got day two. We're coming up here tomorrow, and I
think I think you know, we did okay, we survived
the station didn't bl Yeah, and it was good.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yeah, it's been Oh my god, it's been okay. Yeah,
it's been a whirlwind.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Yeah we've been there.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Weren't like you said, there were some hiccups, but you
know what, that's me learning that you can't do certain
things when I'm trying to do other things. I can't
fit a square peg into a circle hole.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
So Doves, you're sitting in the seat that Chris normally
is in, which kind of like, which means you are
doing a lot of the timing out of things, making
sure that songs play at the right time and that
sound effects play at the right time, and that you're
we're taking phone calls and everything, and you're doing a
lot of that. And then I've been kind of driving
some of more of the content aspect of it and
(03:36):
taking winners information stuff like that. And so it's a
job here. Doing the show is very much show a
well oiled machine for three people, and once we lose.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
One off one wheel, we're kind of lipping down the way.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
But I think tomorrow is gonna go even better.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
We did do I think that we did good today,
but you know, of course I don't know. There were
little hiccups here and there, but yeah, but uh but
tomorrow will go even smooth.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
So it's fun.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
I mean, this is a fun job, and this is
just something a little bit different, just.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Kind of giving you guys a little insight of what
we had to deal with. So you know, we appreciate
you guys listening and a little bit. Yeah, I mean
the weekend, the whole weekend, I was just thinking about this,
even when I was in Vegas. I was like, all right,
so on Monday, I got to run the ship. I
got this, this, this to do, and I'm like, you
know what, I'm in Vegas. I go let me put
(04:26):
that off until like I'm on a plane. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Were you able to relax because you were there for
a bachelor party? Yes, and hello, you're in Vegas. You
got to be able to like have a hangover style
party time.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Yeah, And then I kind of let loose. I just
had a drink or two because it was like Friday
when I got in like in the afternoon, and I
didn't realize there was a lot of a lot of
walking involved, which I forgot about. Yeah, and I'm over
like forty five thousand steps, so I got my steps
for the week freezing. And then let's see, so my buddy,
like we all flew out at like eleven am, four o'clock.
(04:59):
And then our one buddy, he is crazy because he
flew out at eleven pm. Who knows what he did
the whole day. He said he was just gonna chill
by the pool. I was like, for eight hours.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
I would have just sat there, and I guess, I
guess you're in Vegas. There's food, there's drinks, there's pools,
but it's just.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
But it's just you. Yeah, I don't have anybody to
talk to.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Yeah, you'd be kind of sad.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
You're just like surrounded by whatever's left of a bachelor party.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
That's yeah. And he's from Florida, so by the end there,
Vegas is three hours behind. So he got home at
like six thirty.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Then work six thirty am, yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
And then works at eight thirty am.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
That's nuts.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
And then he texted me during the show and he goes,
hey made it to work with one minute before I
had to like start my shift. And I was like say,
I'm like, there's no way I would have so much anxiety.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Yeah, that's just crazy.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
I wonder if he was even able to get a
decent night's sleep.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
You have to because he's three hours. It's a three hour.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Yeah, and you got to sleep on the plane. You
have to.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Sleep, you have to.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
But even then that's like a three hour flight, right.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Yeah. But he works at Disney, so he just stands
next to the characters. So it's not that hard of
a job. Oh, it's not that hard, he goes. I
just stand next to the characters and escore them.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
I hesitate to say anybody doesn't have a hard job,
because I'm sure there's people that would say, like, oh,
you know what, they just have talk on the radio.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Is not that hard.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
There's so much that goes into this. That was like
keeping us really on our toes this morning. So I
don't know, I'm sure sure there's some nuances. Maybe not,
I guess. And then you did, Yeah, I did the rodeo.
I was at the Ram Trucks rodeo at Canterbury Park
this weekend. It was there Friday night and Saturday night.
And they do such a cool job with everything out
(06:34):
there at Canterbury. This is only their second year doing
this outdoor or while doing this rodeo, the Ram Trucks Rodeo,
and it's just a really cool experience because they have
everything all set up right there on the racetrack and
it's just really really neat because if you want to
sit outside, you can sit outside. You want to be inside,
and you know that viewing area that they have where
(06:54):
there's just like big windows you can go sit inside,
or if you're VIP or they have this like barn
Cowboy Alley where you are sitting basically right up against
the fence in both of those sections.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Which is really pretty much yep.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
You got to like tip your head away when horses
and bulls are going by, and it's just really really neat.
No matter where you sit, you have a good seat.
At Canterbury Park, it's such a big venue too, so
it's like I I mean, it's a huge crowd.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
It's bigger.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
It's just a massive crowd because the Canterbury can support that. Yeah,
And it's really really a cool experience. And I don't
know of any other venue for a rodeo in this
entire part of the country that is quite like that.
You see some places that are like maybe racetracks or
similar venues out west, but here in Minnesota you don't
(07:42):
really see a lot of that, and so it was
neat and they played up the Cold Play kiss cam
scam a little bit.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Of course, they did everybody's doing it now.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Yes, everybody's doing it. It was so funny.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
They had some people ready for it and they like
zoomed in on them and.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
They did the whole like duck away goofy thing. It was.
It was awesome.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
It was just a fun weekend and it was busy.
I mean it sounds like it was busy for.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Both of us. Oh yeah, definitely. And now we have
this going on and yep, yeah, we're ready for day two,
I think.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
But hey, I think I feel way more prepared for
day two than.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
I feel like now. Like it was kind of like
this was like the walk through and tomorrow is like
our real thing.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Yeah, because there's no way to be totally prepared. Yeah,
you just got to do it because you don't know
what's going to go wrong until you just do it,
until you just go yeah, and then all of a
sudden things are like playing at the like playing at
the same time as other things, and it's just crazy.
But I think I feel pretty good about it.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
I think we're ready awesome man. So that's all we
got for you on today's episode of Tell You What.
