Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, time for another episode of I Tell You,
and to introduce our next guest, whose name is Patty.
She's a friend of Sam's and it's about what we
do after a tragedy that counts.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Yeah, Patty reached out to me because she personally knows
people that were impacted by the incident at Park Tavern.
These are her coworkers at Methodist Hospital. She has other
family members that work with them directly and are good
friends with them. So she reached out to me, and
we want to help in some way. They've got these
gofundmes and we're gonna chat with Patty today about that.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
How you doing, Patty?

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Good good. We got some really good news yesterday with everybody,
so they're all improving dramatically, so it's wonderful news.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
So how many people of the people that were affected
do you know personally?

Speaker 3 (00:49):
So I know two of the nurses, you know relatively well,
it's my daughter in law and my son that both
are employed there, worked work or worked directly with them,
and our friends you So, Laura, who was one of
the critically ill, and my daughter in law are good friends,

(01:13):
and my daughter in law was actually helping her get
ready for Anesesia school because she's in school anesthesia school
right now. And my other daughter in law works the
same weekend with all of them, and his good friends
Latigan and my son worked with THEO.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Do you know how they're like diversifying or splitting up
the girl fund or is it different girlfund me.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
It's a different goalfund me for each one. So I
sent Sam the lift of the golfund means, including Christina
who was the waitress that was at Park Tavern. And
then Gabe was what we call a health stunent coordinator,
so they kind of they're responsible for basically all of

(02:06):
the administrative per shift and just kind of, you know,
with the chargers kind of run things. I didn't personally
know Gabe, but again he was on that weekend with
my daughter in law.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
So so how's you know, I can imagine that I
pretty much understand, I imagine the answer to this question.
But what's how is everybody doing at the hospital.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
I think that the shotgun AWE is starting to and
getting the information on how everybody's doing is helping a lot.
I think today is going to be a really tough
day because of Gabe's funeral. Yeah, and I want to
really single out the manager of that department who I've
known my entire career since nineteen eighty eight, a Methodist,

(02:55):
Kristin Gamera. She is a very unique person. She she
has worked so hard. She's managed to get everybody off
work to attend that funeral, and the Methodist staff in
the what we call pack you, which is a posting

(03:15):
a seiza recovery from surgery and the anesthesia providers are
coming in to cover in the ICU so that everybody
can attend. If that gives you some perspective of how
they all pulled together.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
That's amazing. Talk about a supervisor, Jeep.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
It is, She's incredible. Kristin also wanted to make sure
that people understood how the HCMC staff, the North Memorial staff,
and then our staff because Eric, one of the nurses
who was discharged, he was admitted there and then discharged
right away. He was one of those injured, one of

(03:52):
our ic nurses. The Methodist staff, how they have just
done an incredible job of taking care of these of
these folks.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
How many goalfundmis are we posting.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
One, two, three, four or five goal fund needs? That
also includes Christina from Park tavern.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Do you know how they're doing? Do you know how
those funds are, how.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
They're Oh, you know, I when I checked last night Christina,
which was the way stuff she hers popped up right
away from Park Tavern. They started it, and it's unbelievable.
The rest of them came up a day or so later,
and they're really really doing well. They started the fund,
the goalfundmeds that I think Gabe was start with a

(04:35):
goal of like seventy five thousand, and I think it's close.
And the other kids it was like fifty and it's
really close. And that's without a lot of exposure.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Yeah, and Christina has I mean three children, all of
them seven another you know, yeah, did Gabe have kids?

Speaker 3 (04:50):
He did not. He had a partner. He and his
partner were from New York and the funeralist day, he
was not in town and as it happened, which was
just horrific. What's really interesting is it's how these that

(05:14):
were injured, how they're now that they're you know, they're
all alert and they're all doing well, and they have
their phones back and they're all connecting. The staff at
Methodists is able to go to the hospitals and be
with them, and the pictures are of joy of you know,
they have a long recovery, especially Teagan. She was the

(05:37):
worst injured and it's going to take her a long time.
She's both she and Laura have surgeries coming up tomorrow.
They're all out of ICU. Are teaguing the worst injured.
She had orders to get out of ICU yesterday. I
didn't hear whether she actually there was a bed and
she was able to get out. But the rest of

(05:58):
them have improved. I mean, they're young in other way
is healthy, which was fantastic, and so they're progressing really well.
But the recovery is the rehab, all of that is
going to be along along a long time and.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
That's where that's where the money's come in. I mean,
that's yeah, you know. I mean the power is obviously
the support. Everything that you guys are doing as a
hospital is absolutely incredible. I mean that's got to be
so uplifting to everybody. Christina's family, But you know, the
harsh reality in things like this, insurance are not you
got to pay for funerals, you got to pay for healthcare.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
There's a lot to pay for, so there's a lot
to pay for, and it's going to be the things
of supporting their families. And here's something that was really
interesting is everybody was like, oh, the medical bills and
medical bills, and it's like insurance, so take care of that,
you know, minus deductibles if whatever that'll be, that'll be
taken care of. It's the things like these kids aren't

(06:55):
going to be able to clean their homes, they're not
going to be able to maintain their.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
Yards, mortgages and able to Yes, I mean it's all
the day to day stuff that we have a hard
time enough in this world. We're paying all the time,
the price is going up and everything else, and you
got to get you got to put food on the table.
So yes, well, Patty, you're awesome. You're just wonderful for
joining us, especially so early here on this Thursday morning,

(07:19):
to convey the uh, the info that we need.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Yeah, and it's it's it's community though, and I think
that we need that right now. I think there needs
to be something this tragedy needs to center. Yes, there's
this tragedy is horrific, but we need something to show
community and that has been overwhelming. I get up, we
all get up, and we look at our phones, and
it's this huge connection of Okay, we're doing this. Now,

(07:46):
we're doing this a thing too less. And I'm sure
you saw this on the news. Parked Cavern had an
event for us at Methodist because that's a go to
for us. We after night shifts, after three to eleven
ship that was just okay, let's go to Park Tavern
for a while unwind. That's kind of like an extension home.

(08:07):
So it wasn't unusual that Laura's going away party wasn't there.
But Park Tavern last night had us all there from
three to eight. They provided all the food. It was
closed to us, just to us. It was parking on
the streets. It was parking everywhere. There were people honking
going by because you could you know, you could see

(08:30):
that it was a closed event, and it made it
on the news. People over there and there in their scrubs.
People showed up that weren't working, people showed up that
maybe didn't work there anymore, and it was incredible and
you saw people that you maybe hadn't seen in a
long time. Or if you're maybe in a unit that
doesn't travel the hospital much. I travel the hospital, so

(08:53):
I have a tendency, you know, with the procedures that
I do, so I have a tendency to see people
a lot. You saw people you worked with twenty thirty
years ago. It's a community hostel. It's it's not an Abbot,
it's not a North Memorial, it's not an h CMC.
I mean, we have our niche, the things that we
specialize in. But it's the longevity of the employees there.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Is crazy giving me goosebumps. Both my kids were born there, yes,
and I remember the anesthesiologist, one of them was on
like his last day. I gave him a tip and
he goes seriously. I was all, he's all as dirt,
skinny as a rail, and he said, he said, I've
only heard this happen once before. I said, that was
my other kid a year and a half ago. I
gave him a dollar. He was just everybody there was

(09:38):
so super nice. And it's wonderful to see the outpouring
of support now because sometimes in the face of tragedy,
you take a look at what happens and how people react,
and this is this is the textbooked example of how
it's done and how to really truly be a community.
So thank you so much, pat Do we got to
get everybody over to over to our socials now and

(09:59):
we've got go five goalfundmes that we want to introduce
to everybody. Yes, and we just say, I mean, if
you know somebody in particular, maybe you go a little
more in that direction. Otherwise you just split it up
and it's just five dollars.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
It does not matter. Five dollars buys a gallon of
milk nowadays, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
Yeah, let's make it ten. Let's make it ten dollars.
It's by two gallons of milk.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
But yeah, I really appreciate you guys. I thought of
Sam immediately. We have a long history together and both
personal and just and professional, and I'm like, wait a minute,
this is simple. Just get it on the news. Just
get it on the radio. That's what people do on
their way to work. They listen to the radio right now, man, Yeah, exactly.

(10:46):
So I am so grateful to you guys. Again, the
staff at these other hospitals phenomenal taking care of these people. Kristen,
their supervisor, just really really stepping up. The staff at Methodist.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
So thank you, Patty, thank you.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
So much, Thank you so much, Patty, thank you for
taking the time to check.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
Next time we talked to you, hopefully it's on you
better subject matter for sure.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Yes, I want to call back and say, you guys,
we blew up those go fund mes and it's not
and I'm and do a follow up and just let
it know how these folks have done or once they
get out of the hospital.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Yeah, well let's get after it right now, let's do it.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Thanks, Okay, thank you, you guys, have a great day.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
All right, that's the mission. If you can head over
to the Chris Car Company socials and check out those
golf on mes, if you would be so kind, it's
a lot of people they could really use our help.
