Speaker 1 (00:00):
Big Country Sport, Breakfast Netball Short Session with the Von
Willaring Go Gold Gold.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Sport Round ten. Yeah, Dun and Dustin and joining us
on the show this morning Formal Silver FIRN Coach and
Gold Sport Commendator Ivon willarding morning Ofvon, Yes.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Good morning. Well what a difference. Last week all games
had big score differentials. This week one went into extra
time and one had bonus pointer, so certainly slightly different rounds.
And this now is the business end of the competition.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, five rounds to go. All right, let's start on
on the first game of the round, which was the
Battle of the O nine's the Mystic pip the Stars
fifty one to forty nine.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Yeah, is right. Another bonus point for the Stars there. Well,
I think they've got about six now bonus points. It's
you know, they're hanging in there. But you know, it
was interesting because that three quarter time the Mystics appeared
to have the game totally in hand. They won that
quarter seventeen to nine, so they had a lead of
forty two thirty five that stage. So after that the

(01:02):
third quarter, you just would expect them just to carry
on with that, but no, no, the Stars, you know,
and they said they're going to spoil. If they weren't
going to be in the top three, they were at
least going to go out and spoil. Well, boy did
they spoil in that last quarter. And they won that
last quarter fourteen to nine. And yeah, that was a
period of time right at the end that the Mystics
were really found wanting and it was a bit of

(01:24):
despiration on their faces. So yeah, it's interesting again, no
grace nowiki not to the other for the Mystics. So
the load was shared basically between Vuiye and Glenn. Shooting
stats weren't too bad, probably not as good as they
would like. Vou was twenty seven from thirty two, Glenn
twenty two from twenty six. They bought banks on and

(01:46):
she got two out of two. So actually the Mystics
had sixty attempts to the fifty seven from the Stars.
It was interesting the shooting load was between Wilson and
Malissala and there was no Faulkner. Falkner wasn't on the
bench well, so I'm not sure whether she was only
a temporary replacement for Mala Salla and is no longer there.
That would be a bit sad for them because they

(02:09):
really need to have, you know, just a spare shooter,
so to speak. And actually I thought it was working
well when the goal attack load was shared between Mala
Salla and Paulkner. I thought Kate Burley was consistent for
the Stars. I think she's having a very good A
and Z Championships. But the thing that I found, yeah,
that's wanting. I suppose. There were so many changes made

(02:31):
by both teams, and you know, we talk about tactical changes,
but sometimes you look at it and I'm going, we're
really killing this. This these technical changes. The rules now
change whereby you can just go on and off the court,
you know, to fake and injury. And boy, you know,
well the Stars in particular are really utilizing this rule
to the max. And I sometimes questioned all these subs

(02:55):
because it takes time to settle into any new combination.
You know, yes, you train with that, but in a realistic,
precious situation, it takes time.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Absolutely. All right, Let's look at the top of the
table clash on the weekend the Central Pulse Mainland Tactics,
and that game lived up to its billing to and
an overtime thriller of.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
One absolutely and yeah, that game that was worthy of
a finals and at the moment it looks like that
is going to be a finals game. I just can't
see the Mystics going, you know, any higher than third
in that one. Yeah, and it was fifty eight to
fifty three, but you've got to appreciate that at the
end of the game that was fifty one all, and

(03:35):
it was it was great. It was a great game,
you know, all in all. And when they went into
extra time, normally the team who starts that extra time
has the advantage, and this actually proved to be the case.
It is three minutes each way, and that is not
a lot of time. And sometimes you've seen teams, you know,
with a minute and a half to go, how they
stalled and they just play the ball around. But yeah,

(03:57):
the Tactics really took it to the pole in that final.
It was a bit sad, I suppose for in a
way for the Pulse. They were leading in all three quarters,
all like forteen nine. It was a very good start
for them, and you could see they meant business. At
halftime they were still leading twenty four to twenty three,
and a three quarter time they increased that lead thirty

(04:17):
nine thirty six. But then it was interesting, and this
was a tactical change by the tactics. There was a
situation where they had to do something different. Being three
got down going into that final quarter, it meant they
had to get it intercept or two somewhere. They made
the change. Berger went to wing defense, Watson went to
goal offense, and so that allowed both of those players

(04:38):
then to look further up court for an intercept or
at least put a lot more pressure on the pulse feeders.
Lloyd came on a goalkeeper, and her extra height really
worked for them because it took the pulse shooters time
to adjust to that extra height, particular with Salmon in there,
and they matched high for height, and I think the

(05:00):
feeders from the Pulse became quite hesitant and feeding to
their shooters. But there were times when Salmon was calling
out for the ball and it just wasn't given to her.
She got fifty out of fifty five, so she got
fifty year goals out of the fifty three. So the
three points were from the goal attack. But that shows

(05:20):
you what a main shooter she's turned out to be.
You know, A mature came on and while she adds
value in her feeding. She didn't get any goals, but
you could also see that she hadn't really been out
of court in a precious situation for a while, and
you know at times she was a little bit hesitant.
But the interesting factor there the Tactics had sixty eight

(05:42):
attempts to the Pulse fifty eight attempts, So certainly the
shooting stats come into that one. And you know, with
Salmon being that dominant, you know she's got to go
and at least to have a silver furn trial.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Yeah, Mainland Tactics on top of the table twenty seven,
with the Pulse on twenty five. Right, let's go to
last night, and I took them sort of behalf to
get going. But the Magic they handled the Southern Steel
all right.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
Yeah, and it was interesting. Obviously more changes to the
Steel lineup. There's no way you can predict the starting
seven from Steel anymore. No Forfeitta for some reason. So
they had the in circle pairing of Stralium and Lawson
and they did interchange goal offense goalkeeper, but they really
made no changes there, but certainly changes were made elsewhere.

(06:30):
But there were so many what i'd call unforced errors.
In that and the shooting stats weren't bad in the
first quarter, but certainly Steel would not have been happy
with the shooting stats that they ended up with. And
both teams actually initially had trouble feeding the ball into
their circle, and it just you know, there were so
many passes, and Stell in particular, but all the passes

(06:51):
they made, it enables obviously the Magic to come through
and intercept those. But yeah, it's the Magic defense actually
kept the team in it because they not so much
they got a lot of intercepse but basically they got
a lot of reboults and they got a lot of tips,
and in the end, the Magic certainly capitalized on that,

(07:12):
and they still won the first quarter. You indicated that
you did say this game of two halves whatever, but
still won the first quarter ten nine and twelve eleven,
and you thought, okay, this is going to stay a
close game. Although the Magics certainly were not playing to
their full strength, they came out after the break and boy,
the Mary Jane ro their coach must have really spoken

(07:34):
to them. They had second half forty nine and fourteen ten.
But the interesting stat is that if you look at it,
and I know it's easy to do shooting stats, but
still had sixty one attempts to Magic's fifty three, and
that shows you the shooting stats come into it. Nomena
and Hefflin sheared the load sixteen out of twenty five

(07:56):
and seventeen out of twenty six, and then Summit Who've
come on and she got eight out of ten, but
she was subbed off again for some reason that surprised me.
I felt checked to actually added some stability in the back.
But yeah, I don't think Numbner in particular would have
been happy with those shooting stats. And for the Magic

(08:16):
really interesting the goal shooting position was interchange between Twoy
and Roland, but Roland actually came on really confident and
if she is also starting to find a really great
combination with the Canacio, so I can actually see that
being a starling lineup as much as I like Savior
Tooy in there, but they do provide something different. So

(08:39):
in the end, yeah, Magic deserved the win, but they
will certainly have to increase that performance if they're going
to match it against the Mystics next week.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Yeah. Absolutely, five rounds left. Von always appreciate your contribution.
