Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good Country, Sport, Breakfast Netball Shorts Session with the Vonn
Willaring Go Gold Gold Sport.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Yes, Round eleven, Don and Dust joining us on the
show she does every Tuesday mornings. Former Silver Fans coach
and Gold Sport commentator Yvonne Willarding Morning.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Von Yes, Good morning, and what a weekend of Nepola
to blowout games and once again the Stars earn another
bonus point. So it's going to be interesting because from
now on, every game is going to count for that
top four teams. And that's why it's so cool that
the Magic eventually came through.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Well, let's go back to the first of the blowout
games and the Tactics really showing that the team to
beat massive seventy one forty seven win over the Southern Steel.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Yeah, that was the biggest win ever for the Tactics
and thoroughly deserved the win, you know they that's well,
basically they led throughout eighteen twelve at the first quarter
and it just went on from them and they had
similar scores and the other three quarters. And it's interesting
it was a return of Done to the competition. I mean,
she's been out and Ali Bird has been her replacement

(01:08):
and It's really interesting because I will still hold on
to Ali Bird because boys, she has brought them through
to this situation and she scored thirty three out of
the thirty four when Done came on. It provides a
little bit of a different ballgame. Bird is basically she
has a bit of movement by what she has on
her side obviously is a height done as a holding shooter,

(01:31):
and she got eighteen out of eighteen. So pretty cool
to have both those shooters available to them. So I
hope that Ali Bird stays obviously in the team, but
still just made so many substitutions even during the quarters.
And yes, the Tactics made some changes, but that was
at the end and that's just to give players opportunities
in case they needed obviously later in the competition. So

(01:54):
Tactics are starting to look a little bit further ahead,
and rightly so I think they. Yeah, they said at
the top of the competition, you know, the Tactics had
seventy six attempts to steal fifty four. Now last week
there's steal you you could say that. You know, their
shooters really weren't up to par. They missed so many shots.

(02:15):
They actually had much better shooting stats in the game
on Saturday. The only problem is they just get and
didn't get enough quality. Naman I got thirty four out
of thirty seven, Heafen eleven out of fifteen, and Timmy
when she came on two out of two, And I
am surprised they don't utilize her more because every time
we talk about her, she's basically getting one hundred percent

(02:38):
shooting stats there. So they always tend to favor the
Namina Heaven in combination. But still just absolutely no no
answers for the tactics. And you would see from the
very first quarter that tactics meant business, and certainly they
rightly deserved their top billing at the moment.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, absolutely, soon on forty seven, all right, shake it
up on the week pulse. They only just squeaked up
by against the didn't they forty six to forty three?

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Yeah? Again, And that really wasn't secured for the pulse
until the fourth quarter because stars kept coming back at them,
and even in the last quarter they came back at them,
which is what stars tend to do. But they just
don't know how to actually nail it. Because you can
look at it and say, yes, you came close in
all the games, but it's still about at the end

(03:27):
of the day winning, you know, bonus point. I'm going
to get you through and halftime. It was only twenty
two to nineteen, so a very low scoring game in itself.
What I was interested in to see was the matchup
between Salmon for the Pulse as a goal shooter, and
she was matched up against Kate Burley and Fowler, and
I really rate that combination. Kate Burley in particular has

(03:49):
had a really, you know, a great season and a
season where she has performed with credit in most of
the games, so that was interesting to see. And initially
Salmon had problems in the fact she is a bit
of a holding shooter and she is tall, so they've
always managed to get the ball to her, but they
certainly had far more trouble getting the ball and she

(04:10):
had to do a lot more work in that circle
and that allowed the Stars obviously to stay close. For
the Stars, Wilson again was at the back as a
goal shooter. She got twenty seven out of twenty nine,
and again Malissalla and Faukner shared the goal attack position.
But what was interesting is maturew came on at half

(04:32):
time for the Pulse and whilst initially probably her shooting
wasn't there, but what she is doing better and better
with every game played, is that fat salmon really well.
She came on at halftime and yeah, just the pace
of her feet into seven, but when she had to shoot,
she did and she actually ended up with six out

(04:53):
at seven in that game. So yeah, that went well.
The interesting factor is that and Marow came on now.
She earlier she's a goal attack, a short goal attack.
Earlier she helped the Comets win the National Level League
and then she went on and that was for comments
that's up north hear. Then she went on for the
Pulse and she scored five out of six. So this

(05:17):
is a player that is able to come up and
has taken her opportunities from the N and L league
and has made it into the A and Z. Other
players have come up, especially some of the mid court
players for Steel. They've come up, but they haven't had
the same impact as she has had in the game.
So yeah, it was interesting. But this is Star's eighth

(05:40):
bonus point of the season, you know, and Pols had
fifty eight at teams Stars at fifty, so if you
just look at that. Yeah, Polse were going to win that,
but only forty six forty three. I mean you look
at you there sitting second on the table. At the moment,
they're going to have to improve their outings and play
with I's gonna say probably with a bit more speed

(06:01):
because at the moment Tactics do look better than them.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
And look out, the Magic's are on the way up.
Last night live here on the Old Sport. Yeah, the
Magic stake they claim for the final playoff spot fifty
two to forty four went over the defending champs. So
are the Magic now favorite for that final playoff spot
of one with four games to go?

Speaker 1 (06:20):
No, it's still a really tough road going to the end.
That was probably Magic's best performance today, best teams performance.
You know, everyone worked on attack and everyone worked defensively.
But what was incredible that at halftime it was thirty
to eighteen to the Magic. The second quarter was seventeen

(06:41):
to seven to the Magic. Now you can say, you know, okay,
they haven't got grace milWiki. While they didn't have it
for the first quarter and that was only thirteen eleven
to the Magic. The boy have no idea what happened
to the mystics what their mindset was. But they threw
so many balls away at once stage. I couldn't believe
that the ball went. It was the pass was made

(07:03):
from their goal third, it went and it was passed
back and it went straight over over the line, straight
through into the defensive third. So it was a ball
over a third. I've never seen that before, and I
have no idea what that was about. And there was
a lot of what passes in that game. But the
Magic deserved that, absolutely deserved that win. They really worked

(07:26):
totally as a team, missed a tremendous amount of slubs
throughout the game, and that's mainly in the mid court.
So it did show. Yes, certainly they missed and we
talk about it all the time, they miss Grace Noiki,
but they also really missed Kuijava. She wasn't there, still
isn't playing, and they missed her through that mid court,
through her speed, but also through her dominance and the

(07:48):
way she calms that whole mid court area. And yeah,
you have a decent mid court and generally speak and
they can connect the defensive end to the attacking end,
and Magic certainly did that. And yeah, Mystics didn't do that,
and it'd be interesting to see Grace and RICKI when
she did come on. She came on for the third
quarter and they still lost that quarter, but only fifteen fourteen,

(08:13):
so they can take heart from that. Interesting, and there
was a bit nervous for Grace to we get ten
out of thirteen. So but what really surprised me at
the end of the game because I thought Magic really
had total control in that game. And yes, they also
threw passes away at times, but on the whole that
you know, they just looked a really dominant team. But

(08:35):
then when I looked at the ATVCE, Magic had sixty
one attempts but Mystics had fifty seven attempts, and I
couldn't believe that. I thought, wow, when you look at
the final score fifty four forty two, you've got to
look and go where did that happen? So you know,
Magic still also were guilty of throwing ball away or

(08:55):
it just didn't get into their circle. But the stat
that is was important and something that Mystics has to
look at as well. Magic converted a large number over
fifty percent. I think it was something like seventy percent
of their center pass offs so senda pasthofs to goal
on attack. You know, they had seventy something success rate,

(09:17):
whereas the Mystics only had about sixty percent, which means
not just on that first pass but second phase play,
so that didn't even get to their shooters, you know.
And that's that's an area they have to address. And
again for the Mystics, two we AA makes the big
difference there. But mistics right now, yep, they have to
now you have a look at it. They have to

(09:37):
get Grace the weekly on board. I think she will
play two quarters next week. I think she's on restricted
time at the moment, so not sure how that sits.
But they actually also if they want to make the
final playoffs and obviously make the final, yeah, they're going
to need both the Wiki and Tiava in the mix.
But credit to the Magic, they totally deserve that game.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
Fantastic Vonte, thank you for wrapping it all up for us.
We'll talk again next week.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Yep, Pleasure Avon will are in joining us.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
So yeah, the Tactics on top of the moment with
thirty points, second place the Central Pulse on twenty eight.
But it is tight as Yvonne mentioned there. Between the
Magic and Third on nineteen and the Mystics on eighteen,
it's a real tight income. The Northern Stars with eleven
and Southern Steel have six
