Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sport.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Well there, I'm.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Time to catch up with our Ossie. Corresponding, we say
good good morning to our copper, Jimmy Doland.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Morning Jimmy and Brian.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Happy first of July. A few things happening in your
neck of the woods over there with the first of
July looming on there.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Yes, well he is just flying by, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Yes, Yes, it's scary, it really is. All right, let's
start with the NRL premiere. Is they're continuing to wobble
just a little bit.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Yeah, I think the Panthers will be keen for the
Origin series to end. Like a lot of the teams
who are supplying at a stack of players, they've gone
down of the cowboys at Henry, which is pretty much
unheard of the way they've played over the last few years.
The good news is that where as Origin comes to
an end too, they'll also get Nathan Cleary back for
the run of the finals. His hamstring injury seems to
(01:13):
be recovering. Well, he's actually back running, So they're just
taking extra caution now and they'll slip h mid of
the side. The Warriors have really put the pressure on
the Broncos bouncing back from that sixty point thrashing to
beat Briceband thirty to sixteen. And that doesn't get any
easier for the Broncos after dropping that one. They now
(01:34):
have to host the Pamps on Friday Night on the
back of four straight losses, considering well over one hundred
points in those games and out of yesterday the Roosters
they did everything right and the Tigers keep shooting himself
in the foot sending block to the sinbin and Joey
marn who suffered a suspected broken hand in the winnow
of the West Tigers. He will have scans for that today,
(01:55):
but it looks like he'll be missing a couple of weeks,
as has happened with the Roosters, who also have a
hosted players is involved in the Origin Series.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
He yeah, the Origin Series is going to go down
to the side, isn't it.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Yep. It's what most people wanted, unless you're a Queenslanders
one all. And it goes to Brisbane now where they'll
have a full house and both teams will go to
each other and they'll be cocker hoop full of confidence
both sides. So we'll see what happened.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Yeah, absolutely, it's changed codes. Not a good not a
good weekend for a couple of old Wallabies.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
There's a been Yeah. Curtly Bill. Just days after it
was said that he was going to be involved in
Joe Smith's Wallaby's lineup, his swan song could be over
before it begins. He was assisted from the field playing
club rugby for Randwick and he has a suspected achilles injury,
which is not a great injury to have at any time,
but once you get to the woods as mid thirties,
(02:50):
they can be career ending because they just keep flaring
up and flaring up. So not great for Curtly Bill.
He's unlikely now to Polo being the squad to play
Wales this weekend, and then former Wallaby skipper Michael Hooper
an outside social media that he's retiring from all forms
of rugby. He's well, he's probably jumped the gun announcing
that he's missed the final twelve man squad for the
(03:11):
Paris Olympics. That team will be named on Wednesday. The
thirty two year old won't be part of it. Played
one hundred and twenty five tests for so sixty nine
as Wallaby's tappa in more than any other man, and
during a poor era for you rugby, he probably saved
our team from many many thrashings through his lionhearted efforts.
I think, yeah, he probably deserves to be remembered a
(03:33):
little bit of than he is because he had to
do so much dirty work for those Ossie teams and
probably a few deserves a few more wins that he
got on his career.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Looking forward to that game on Saturday night for the Aussies,
just to see how Joshput's team goes against Wales.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Yes, there's plenty of people invested in seeing how that goes,
especially with the British and Irish Lions who are just
around the corner. And of course when another World Cup
cycle already.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Yep, absolutely all right. The Aussie's getting ready for the
All England Tennis Championships at Wimbledon's kicks off and I
think it's kicked off now, actually, isn't it.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Yeah, Well, it's just one of those tournaments that it's
hard to ignore and if you have a late night,
you will have a very late night if you start
watching this. With the weathers, any good we've got at
least that one ossie guaranteed to make the second round
at Wimbledon. For the fourth straight Grand Slam, two Ossie
men will meet in the first round. This hasn't happened
for forty years, four in a row. And we've now
(04:28):
got James Duckworth playing Alex Demonor. Duckworth is thirty two
and he's been talking up the world number seven, saying
he's watched since he was fifteen how the Demon works
and he deserves his rise up the rankings in the world.
And Duckworth also says he still believes he can beat
the ninth seed when they meet tomorrow at Wimbledon, so
that'll be interesting. And of course out of that pair,
(04:51):
whoever goes on if they continue, they're on track to
meet another Ossie, Tanati kocken arkets in the third round.
Novak Djokovic also on that side of the draw. Never
really an easy match in Wimbledon. We've got ten Ouzzy
men and three women in the single straw at Wimbledon.
So yeah, for the first couple of days it'll be
all about Australia and then we'll settle into hopefully some great.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Tennis advance Australia fair good on you, Jommy. Nice to
catch up mate.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Oscar had a second too in Russia. I'm sure you're
all over that.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Yes he did, Yes he did on the Grand Prix
in Austria. Yeah nice one, good grand Prix. Got on
your JOm Have a good week.
