Speaker 1 (00:37):
Talk us through how you've found out you were named
in the first Black Fern's squad.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
Well, we had a camp the week before last week
and then yeah, we had a bit of an internal
trial game which was tough as and then yeah, the
coaches gave me a call early on in the weekend
just to let me know that I'll be hitting away
with the team and could potentially they do which is
so cool.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
And what was your reaction? But shocked.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
I actually asked them to repeat themselves because I wasn't
sure if I who, Yeah, that's so cool, so crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Absolutely. See do you think your form and you've had
good form this year during Super Rugby alpacky with the Chiefs,
is that helped you make the squad?
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Yeah? I assume so. Yeah, but yeah, it's been. It's
been a really good season actually, and then you're coming
to campus just a whole other level. But it's been.
It's been really cool and the coaches have been so supportive.
So you're very lucky to be there.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
What do you put your your your newly found form
down to anything special?
Speaker 2 (01:52):
I'm a kid.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Nah.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
I mean well, it puts quite a few things into spective.
I guess when you have a baby, makes you realize
what hard really is, makes you appreciate your time of it.
So that's been. I mean it's been tough, but Holly,
it changes you quite a bit when you have a
when you have a baby.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Was it tough coming back from having the baby to
get back to fitness.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Oh my goodness, yes, like twenty something kilo is tough,
but it was. It was. I'm so glad I did.
It was so tough. I could not have done it
without my partner and all my family constantly watching him
but nah, I'm so glad I did.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
How old's a little one now.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
He's nearly one and a half.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
So you're back to work a sort of you know,
you've done the motherly thing and now you're right in
amongst it and you're you're going to be with the
Black fans, which is great.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, it's insane. Yeah, it's quite a long time away,
but yeah, it's so worth it. I wouldn't I wouldn't
want to spend time away from my family for anything else,
to be honest. So yeah, very exciting.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
What do the coaches have you do during that camp?
Before the team was named? What were you doing?
Speaker 2 (03:08):
We actually split into two teams within our team, and
we were kind of given what we had obviously a
few leaders within each of the teams, and we're given
a bit of free brain on designing our own for
the game plan, which was quite exciting. And then you
had a big trial at the trial game at the
end of the week on Friday, which was really really tough.
(03:31):
Can now say play against the bo Yeah, but now
it was cool. It was really good. Gave the girls
a bit of freedom in ye, it was a really
tough game.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
So it's only just two new caps in it, and
I think they're both in the forwards. That lant a
lot of here and yourself. You do new girls on
the block, aren't you?
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Yes, exciting for it? So she's amazing.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Are the rest of the team kind of taking you
under their wings and looking after you?
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Oh my goodness, Yes, that's so amazing. I'm so worried.
I wasn't going to know anything going into every camp.
But no, they're so helpful, always messaging, always checking them,
and I'm an ass an annoying amount of questions. But
they're just so happy to I'm so happy to help out,
which is so lovely.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
So apparently you assemble today between now and flying out
to Gluzzy on Sunday. What happens? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:22):
We here the camp today in Auckland. We've been a
week here, not one hundred percent sure what's happening to
be honest, just training. I show them and then try
out next Monday. Yeah, for the week in oz which
will be cool. But yeah, I'm actually not entirely sure.
Just a lot of a lot of hard training.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
It's just exciting, though, isn't it? For you?
Speaker 2 (04:43):
It's so cool. I love love being in camp. It's
really hard, but it's really really cool. I've got amazing
coaches and yeah, like I said, the players are so amazing,
so lovely.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
And it's going to be really special for you when
you pull on that black jersey with the silver fernel.
It isn't it.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
Yeah, hopefully that would be. It would be the dream,
that'd be unreal, fantastic.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Well, thank you for joining us, and again, congratulations.
