Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is the Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sport.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Right Campaign for Wool New Zealand, the ensuring that future
generations of Kiwis more deeply understand the value of wool
joining us as Campaign for Wool New Zealand General Manager
Kara Briggs.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Morning, Cara, morning, Nice to chet Brian.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
I hope you've got your Willy jumper on. I've got
mine on.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
I certainly do, Yeah, certainly do.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
I want to talk to you about the new campaign
ensuring that future generations of Kiwis, young Kiwis understand the
quality of wool. It's being introduced in our education system right.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Yeah, one hundred percent. So we already have our Woolen
Schools program which has been running for about ten years
across primary schools, which is basically we've got a couple
of twenty foot containers that go round to primary schools
around New Zealand full of resources and whatnot. We can
get to about forty schools a year and we really
want to. So this week we're launching three new pilot

(01:03):
programs which is pretty exciting. One called Woolweek which is
in our primary school sector. One called Little Learners which
is for our early childhood education kids. Those are the
kids underfined. And also the sort of jewel in the
crown is our Wooll Dynamics program, which is the tertiary education.
And this one's really exciting because this is about our
future architecture and product design students and exposing them to

(01:28):
the amazing benefits of wool and helping them solve problems
with wool in the future. So now it's exciting stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
It blows me away. And I guess many people the
fact that we just aren't really embracing wool and all
its values are.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
We Well, I think the tide is changing. So there
are a lot of green shoots. Yeah, there's a lot
of grain shoots that are happening at the moment. You know,
the government's putting more wool into government buildings. We've got
you know Field Days innovation awards where you know, there
were three wool products that actually won awards at the

(02:02):
innovation Awards at the National Field Days. You know. So
there's a lot of cool stuff going on. Bremworth are
doing some amazing things with their experience store in Residium
up in Auckland, you know. So things are happening and
This is where education is so important because it's not
just about wolves of super fiber and we should all
use it. It's about why should we use wol? Why
is it the best fiber? To you is? Why is

(02:24):
it better than plastic? You know, it's a great sounded zorber,
it's a great air filterer, it's a great you know,
odor resistance, impact resistance. There are so many properties that
we need to talk about. So I think the education
of wool is critical to growing our wall industry.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Now, the first to trial a program, I believe are
a number of institutions of Victoria University are ut Otago
Politech and Massi University, aren't they.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Yep, as well as Victoria University and Aura Institute as well.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
And will that be online or actually at the university itself.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
So it's at the universe see itself. But the resources
that we've created, our two educational consultants have created them
Professor Francis Joseph and Peter Heslots, so they're superbraining in
these areas. So this is a modular program. So in
these courses which are online as well as in lecture theaters,

(03:21):
the tutors and lecturers can actually take these modular resources
and they can put these papers into their own courses
that they that they are studying. So that means that
they have full direction over the exposure that they give
to their students. Because what we found is that each
of these different tertiary institutions actually actually taught in a
slightly different way, so we needed to give them full

(03:43):
scope to use wool in whatever way suited them best
for their students.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
I like the idea too of having encouraging schools to
have a wall week.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Yeah, no, this is really cool. So the War Week
in the primary school, so this is it is a
war week pro but it's also for schools that are
either too remote, too small, or can't fit a twenty
foot container on their site. So War Week is essentially
a consolidated container, a sort of container experience in a box,

(04:15):
sort of about a little bit bigger than a shoe box.
And we've pulled together a bunch of resources and these
lovely tactile sort of experiences for these kids that can't
get the containers to their schools. So that's going to
be increasing the reach that we get from forty schools
to about one hundred and twenty schools per year.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Now you're rolling out the programs we're been starting this year.
Are they being rolled out now?

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Yeah? They are so. Wykatau and Victoria starting their tertiary
education program as of Monday. All Week is starting as
of just after the school holidays, so in three weeks time.
And the ec program early Childhood Education program it's kicking
off in term four, so a couple of months down

(05:03):
the track.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
I applaud you the Campaign for Wool well and truly
up and running cares. You're doing a great job. Keep
out the good work.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Thank you, Brian. That's awesome.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
You take care General Manager for the Campaign for wool
in New Zealand. We've got to get behind. If you
put a new carpet in the house, look a wall,
all right, pull on the wooly jersey. Absolutely
