Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Country Sport Breakfast Netball short session with the Von
Willering Go Gold Gold Sport.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Two rounds to go now and Von Willaring joining us
this morning morning of Von Yes.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Good morning and what a weekend of netball that was?
Are you a blowout games? Yeah? And a bonus point.
But the bonus point this time didn't belong to the Stars.
It belonged to the Magic. So yeah, Magic will be
thinking about that game that's just gone.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Let's go back to Saturday tactics traveling to Auckland and
handing the Stars an eleven goal lost. Do you like
what you're seeing out of the tactics? I mean, are
they peaking at the right time?

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Yeah? Absolutely, And you know teams are getting their injured
players back and certainly done was an example of that one. Yeah,
and this time no bonus point for the Stars. And
you know at times really the start their own aras
cost from the game. I actually was at the game
and sitting at the end, which is really interesting because

(01:00):
how you've got a situation where you saw the encircle
attack versus the defense, and I tell you some of
the pushing is going both ways. It isn't just the
defender that's at fault and at one stage, actually Watson
was frustrated and actually spoke to the umpire about the
pushing that was going on. So yeah, that was interesting
to see her from a different perspective. But Done finally

(01:22):
got her first, she got her first start, and boy
did she make the most of her opportunity. She got
thirty one out of thirty one at three quarter times
was yeah, she was replaced by Bird twelve out of thirteen.
What's good about both those players, and I'm sure they
will both be retained leading into the finals, is that
Done is what you call a holding shooter and asks

(01:43):
for the ball in space, whereas Bird still is also
a holding shooter, but she asked for the ball over
So that can be a really good tactical change for them,
obviously at the business end of the competition. And yeah,
it was just What was liked about the tactic in
that game is that they were consistent throughout. The closest

(02:03):
quarter was the second, It was seventeen sixteen. The Tactics
still won every quarter, and yes, and the last quarter,
Tactics made quite a number of subs and Lloyd came
on a goalkeeper. But the reason for that besides the
fact she is a tall goalkeeper, but it does allow
Watson to move the goal defense. But more importantly, Berger

(02:23):
goes to wing defenses. So what they're looking for is
taking that ball early, and that's obviously in preparation should
they meet up with the Mystics, and the chances are
they probably will if they don't secure that number one position.
So yeah, even the attempts, you know, sixty nine attempts
for the Tactics and sixty one for the Stars. I

(02:46):
actually was surprised that actually was that close together, but yeah,
the shot shooting at the end was a telling factor.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Well, talking about the Mystic Sunday demolition job over the
Southern Steel sixty eight forty seven. The Mystics with their
Stars back as well, So they're really finally looking like
defending champs someday.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Yeah, and I've sort of predicted that. See, they're not
going to be top top seeding, top seeding, so they
can't go straight to the final. So they're in the
second to third playoff situation, so no team actually wants
to play against them, and that's why you've got that
Tactics and the Pulse really vying for that top spot.
But yeah, that's mystics biggest one of the season. They've

(03:29):
they got all ten players out on court. But the
main combination, obviously that everyone's looking at is the Nowiki
two we av a combination. Having said that, though two
we Are only was on the court for one quarter
and obviously Gracewiki State for the duration, but it showed
that they also were capable of carrying it through without

(03:50):
it because the first quarter of sixteen twelve, the second
was seventeen to eleven, so you know, they still were
quite dominant just having Grace the Wiki back court, and
you could just see just the confidence that builds within them.
Still interesting with Mystics, they prefer to start off with
Binks and then Vouei comes into the game. I don't
know whether that's because Vooi likes to site what's going

(04:13):
on around it before she takes the court. Because the comparison,
I mean, grace Ki got forty out of forty four. Oh,
she must have gone off at some stage because Glenn
came on, but Vui got seventeen out of seventeen and
Binks only got five out of eight. So when it's
the Binks in the Wiki combination, then Grace Newiki does
the majority of the shooting, but when Voui comes onto

(04:35):
the court, you know she is prepared to take the shot. Again,
that also is in preparation for the finals, because again,
if it's a situation where Grace Miwiki is double marked
by a couple of players, well I would expect Voui
then to be on the court because she would just
take take on the shooting roll. So yeah, easy win
for the Mystics, and actually that was their biggest win

(04:56):
of the season, sixty eight forty seven night.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
You got to ask what happened to the Magic because
it was all tied up through the three quarters and
then bang they just went down fifty three forty eight.
So what happened?

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Yeah, unbelievable. Yeah, both teams predictable starting lineups. But Magic
certainly started really strong because the Pulse early on had
to bring the tour Our on. Now, Maturel really feeds
salmon very well, and that is why she was brought
into the equation, not so much for her shooting, but
more for her passing into salmon and it did work

(05:34):
for them. But the Magic, yeah, I mean the two
Econacio combination just was so confident at the start. Cable
Dexon probably had one of her best games of the
season and she certainly now matched fit. Obviously wasn't at
the beginning, you know, when she first was introduced into
their game, but she was so strong through at mid
court and actually defensively. It probably was more in combination

(05:58):
that they had a great success edgecom Tucker Rauggi and Makyrie,
although Tucker Rauggy got a large number of intercepts and
I know at the end of one quarter I heard
the coach of Pulse really talking about how to count her.
But the first half totally belonged to the Magic ten
thirteen twelve, but they looked to it. It wasn't just
about the score. They looked good. At the end of

(06:20):
the third quarter, it's when it all happened. Suddenly we
have the Warmsley Gordon coming onto the corner. It was
so cool to see them from their injuries now taking
the quarter again. And yes they had a tentative staff
from both players and you could see they were both
obviously a bit nervous. Why because they weren't winning at
the time, Not that it was going to be all

(06:42):
about them, but certainly it didn't take them long to
gain the confidence other end of the court. Jackson and
Mason they picked up the pace in that last quarter
and Magic were totally outplayed in that last quarter. Magic
only scored six goals the last quarter it was thirteen
six Yeah, because the third quarter Pulse only won that

(07:04):
eighteen sixteen. So you know, the Magic, you know, they
were withstood that that introduction of Warmsley and Gordon, but
it just didn't last and they really they just capitulated.
Like you know, in the circle, you had a situation
where maccarie went went wayward because the shooter was just
standing there by yourself. And yeah, for the polse, Salmon

(07:28):
got thirty two out of thirty seven and warms the
sixteen out of eighteen. So again a situation where you
want to retain both those shooters. Mature contributed with four
out of six. But what was it was surprised me
as the Poles had sixty two attempts and the Magic
had fifty nine attempts, So certainly you know it was
it was. It was a great name. It's just a shame,

(07:50):
I guess that year you've got a situation where, oh
I hate this statement. A game of two halves. The
good thing about it, though, Magic ended up with a
bonus point, and I don't think the Pulse realized that
that was actually a possibility because they actually had ball
in hand and could have taken it to their shoot
to avoid Magic getting that bonus point. Now they still

(08:12):
have a slim chance of making the finals. A lot
of people said, oh, that's Magic season's gone, but they
actually do have a still chance, a slim chance. They're
still to play Tactics and Steel. Trouble is, they do
have to win both those games, and they do have
to rely obviously on the Mystics losing either to Pulse
or the Stars. So unfortunately it's not just about them,

(08:34):
it's all about opposition teams how they do. So, yeah,
it's sad. It was a really important game Magic obviously
to try to secure that third spot and Pulse working
really hard to just secure a home final.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Fantastic, Yvonne. Two rounds to go. It's very tasty. Will
look forward to your review next week. Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Yeah, looking forward.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
