Whether it's gun boots or rugby boots.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
The country Sport Breakfast has you covered on gold Sport,
your home of live commentary talking sale GP on the
show now where the champions of season four are going
to be crowned when sale GP returns to the iconic
city of San Francisco, the City by the Bay for
the two million dollar Winner takes All Grand Final this weekend.

(00:24):
Joining us on the show out of the Black Foils
is Wing Trimer Blair Chrick Morning.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Blair, good morning, thanks having me on bro.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Oh absolute pleasure mate, A winner takes All two million
dollar shootout. How does it.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Work well the whole season as that comes down to
one race, So that's been the format GP has had
since its inception, really that it all comes down to
that one race. The one race constitution of the top
three boats for the season. So that's when you add

(01:00):
all of the placings for the season. So we're obviously
sitting at the top of the table now, but that
the other two teams to join us, likely Australia Spain,
but with some outside chances of some other you know
that there I guess we're the top three teams for
the season and then we just gone to a win.
It takes all race at the end. The only little

(01:23):
bit of complexity there is that the San Francisco in
itself actually happens over five races on the Saturday and
the Sunday early afternoon, and then that constitutes one more
event and so that I guess event school gets talied
up to the rest of the season and then twenty
minute gap and then you're into the season finale.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
It'd be nice to see a new champion crown because Australia,
who are the reigning champions, they've actually held the sale
GP crown since season one, haven't they.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Yeah, they've certainly been the benchmark team in the first
three seasons. I think that's changed a little bit of
the year where we have, you know, really been the
form team I think across the ranger conditions. So in
saying that they sailed the boat very well in San Francisco,
they are the three time champs for a reason. We
obviously had a taste of being in that final with

(02:16):
him last year. Gave him a good push, but it
wasn't quite good enough. So you know, I think we've
learned a lot from that, and you know, like I said,
we've been saying well this season, so hopefully we can
finish it off this weekend.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
The Black Foils have played five event wins. You seem
to be saving the best to last because you you
came out of New York with a round when they're
and you looked really impressive. Are you doing that? Are
you saving the best to last?

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Well, that's what you have to do when it all
comes down to the end. But in saying that, actually
we wanted to be the team that has been consistently
performing over the season. There's a long season. It's been
well just over a year since the first first round
back in Chicago middle of twenty three, so it's a

(03:03):
long season. We've improved a lot throughout. We've managed to
win togethers and light winds and strong wins in all
different parts of the globe, so that's been really pleasing.
But yeah, I mean, we set out there was goals
to be the form tend of the season. But the
main goal is that absolutely the fully focused on putting

(03:23):
a good weekend together and then obviously putting a good
ten to twelve minute race together at the end, and
that's where.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
It counts when it comes to winning those those crucial races.
Obviously the start is the key thing, is that right?

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Yeah, that's right, Brian, for sure, the starters. I mean
you've seen it time and time again, especially in the final,
that the start is critically important and that you can
be that first boat to mark one, then you definitely
hold a good advantage. But in saying that, Francisco Racetracks
racetrack where they're opportunities if you're you're the boat or

(04:02):
boats behind there. One of the longer courses we sail,
so that means that when you get, especially to that
first up wind leg, the boats can split the course
a little bit and you can snip out little bits
of pressure wind gus or the angles of the of
the gas. So yeah, I mean, of course we would

(04:22):
set out to try and be first to mark one.
We just missed getting over the Australians last year from
a sort of midline start, so we're obviously trying to
get to mark one first, but if we don't, we'll
still back ourselves to try to get past them before
the finish.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
There's the City by the Bay, San Francisco Harbor. Is
that a tough track to sail on because it's very tidal,
isn't it.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Yes, San Francisco based, hugely titled pretty much and in
and out underneath the Golden Gate Bridge where we're there
right along Marina District, just sort of by a mile
or two from Golden Gate Bridge. And yeah, it's very tidal.
This weekends looking quite good for the currents. The current

(05:07):
will have ef fector but less of effected than other weekends.
We're not on one of the big tides, and the
tides actually coming into the current will be coming from
Golden Gate Bridge with the winds down the course. So
that also big factor for us on the IF fifties
is how choppy or or flat the sea staters, and

(05:29):
that'll they will help the wind be nice and the
sea sets so be nice and flat, and then the
boats can get up and foiling a bit higher than
otherwise would be the case. If it's an outgoing or
an m tide.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Well it's an exciting it's an exciting thought. Really. Two
million dollars win to take all shootout and of course
the overall champion. So there we wish you and the
rest of the Black Foils the very best of luck
on the weekend.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Nice yeah, uh, you know, we run up. Thanks taking
the time to chat, and maybe chat next week after
it's all done, or maybe you'll be it'll be time
to hit gex my little brother.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
No, we prefer you, mate, We'll prefer you. Good on
your good luck.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
I hope he's not listening, Brian, all right, thank you.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
It's Blair Chuck joining us. Normally we talked to Jesse
Chuke is his brother who also works for sale GP.
But it's nice to be on the boat and find
out more about it, and I've got to chat with
him yesterday, and of course the news out overnight that
sale GP is going to kick off the new season
next season in Auckland as part of its twenty twenty

(06:36):
four to twenty five season calendar, and then it'll take
place from January eighteenth to nineteenth, and there'll be fourteen
events across an increase five continents, so it's going to
be really really exciting. I love watching it. It's absolutely
brilliant
