Speaker 1 (00:00):
Time to hit s W nineteen the All England Tennis Club.
We're talking Wimbledon here and we've found a lady's finalists
joining us from the grounds and multimedia Mega start. Craig Gabriel, Morning, Craig, Hey.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
BK, good to be with you. Yes, we've got our
two women's finalist. I keep saying women's, it should be ladies' finalist. Seriously,
I get this mistake. I have this mistake.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
It's ladies and gentlemen, isn't it?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Really? It is exactly that, exactly that boy are they're
living in the past. But the ladies final is just
Mean Paulini and Babora Kajakova, and there's great stories on
both sides with these two ladies. Just me and Paulini
was a finist at the French Open a month ago

(00:48):
and here she is in the Wimbledon final. That has
not been done since Serena Williams achieved that in twenty sixteen.
That was the last time and the match that Jess
Mean played against she, I'm losing my track. Donna Vekch,
I'm sorry, was the longest women's semi finalist at Wimbledon,

(01:10):
and by how much one minute the match went two
hours fifty one minutes and the previous record was two
hours fifty.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
See that's amazing. So that was one of them. You've
talked us through that one. What was the other story?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
The other story was Barbori Krajkoba's emotions at the end.
She came back from a set down to beat the
champion here from a couple of years ago, Elena Rabakina
and won at three six six, three six four. When
she was doing her on court interview with Annabel Croft,
who was a lovely lady. You know, Annabel made mention

(01:50):
of Jana Novotna. Now I knew, I used to know
Jana Novotna. Yana was a Wimbledon champion in nineteen ninety
eight and in twenty seventeen she passed away with cancer.
Yana was Barbora's coach for a long time and she
inspired her, and Barbora was explaining the stories that Yana

(02:12):
would tell her about playing at Wimbledon, and that just
brought the tears and she had to turn away for
a minute and compose herself. But it was it was
actually a beautiful moment and the crowd were very warm
to Barbora.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
We won't chat until after the Ladies champion has been crowned.
So who are you picking in why, Craig.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Gosh, good question. I don't know who. I'dn't be picking
on this one. I think, you know what, with the backstory,
I might go with Barbora on this one, okay.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
I mean, if the Italian wins, the Italy will go crazy,
weren't they?

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Oh see, well, if somebody put it to her, what's
with Italian tennis? You got a rubbish football team in
the Euros is the words they used at her when
she thought was very funny. But it's true with Italian
tennis at the moment. I mean, I think we all
need to start maybe learning. Oh no way, pre kuatro

(03:12):
ti remisu.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
But yeah, all right, let's go to the mean side
of things. Semi final tonight, New Zealand. Time Midvedeva and
el carrez A. First up, how do you see that? Going?

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Well? Four two is the head to head to Carlos
in that one. It's a repeat of the semi final
last year. But last year it was so one sided
to Carlos sixty three six three sixty three. So Medvedev
has said, obviously, you know rocket science here. I've got
to play better. I've got to serve a lot better,

(03:45):
and I think he will and it wouldn't surprise me
one iota if Medvedev was to be in the final.
And the other side is Novak Djokovic against Lorenzo Mussetti
and he's a surprise, wonderful player to watch, another Italian,
and he played a fluid match against Taylor Fritz who

(04:08):
beat him six to one in the fifth set. It
was a great performance. He's played Novak six times, Novak
has won five, but they recently played at the French
and it was a five setter that ended at six
minutes past three in the morning, and I remember it
very well because I didn't get back to my apartment
until six minutes past four. So look, I think Massetti will.

(04:31):
It'll be difficult for him because this is Novak's backyard
at the moment, so I think he'll get through.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
And the keywis keep on rolling at Wimbledon to in
the mixed doubles here in Radcliffe and Michael Venus that
through to the Semis after a straight since win a
few minutes ago.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah, absolutely, and they've had to reschedule the mix the
mixed final was supposed to be today, that has now
been moved to Sunday to after the men the gentleman's
singles final. And then it was disappointment though for Mike
Venus earlier today in the mens gentlemen's doubles semis and

(05:06):
they lost that. So and the Australians are in the
gentlemen's doubles semi a final and that's Jordan Thompson and
Max Burssell.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
So, Craig, just before I let you go a little
trivia question for you. Who was the first unseeded gentleman
to win the Wimbledon singles title? So test your knowledge?
Who was the first seeded man?

Speaker 2 (05:27):
I think it might have been Boris Becker.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
You are right, you are right, Well done, my friend.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Well done in nineteen eighty five.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
There you go, all right, enjoy the weekend and we'll
talk on Monday and we can wrap it all up. Craig,
thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Sure, Okay,
