Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, let's go to s W nineteen the grass courts
of the All England Tennis Club at Wimbledon for the
final time. I feel a bit sad about that, joining
us out of the grounds our multimedia Migast Craig Gabriel
for the last time out of Wimbledon.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Hi Craig, Hey, Brian, it's good to be with you. Gosh. Yes,
things are all wrapped up now. It feels sort of
strange really, yeah, I mean.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
You've been covering Wimbledon for for quite a few years. Really,
how do you write this one?

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Frustrating? Actually? Really because of the weather. That's what sent
everybody nuts over here this year. There were some great matches.
I think there were a couple of records set in
that the most five set matches were played at this
year's Wimbledon for Wimbledon I'm talking about. So that was

(00:48):
one of the things. And there were some very good matches,
no two ways about it, But the weather got in
the way time after time after time. I think we're
very fortunate to have a nice weekend for the for
the final two main finals.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
All right, well, let's talk about the two main finals
and the one from overnight Kallos Alkareth muted Novak Djokovic's
dream of a record breaking twenty fifth Grand Slam tennis
single triumph. Al Charez just too strong.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Too strong indeed, for up to six two six two
five four forty love he was almost uncouchable. I think
the nerves got to him when he was serving for
the championship, and I think a couple of double faults
and Djokovic saw his chance and broke back, made it
five all, and they went into a tiebreak, and that's

(01:37):
when Alkaraz said, Okay, you've had your fun sort of thing.
I'm not going to make a mess of this this
time around. So I think it was his fourth Matt
Championship point that he managed to close it out and
win his second Wimbledon in a row and beat Novak
second two years and running.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Now, considering that Novak had had a knee operation only
a few weeks prior to wimbled and were you surprised
he got through to the final?

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Yes and no. Yeah. I mean you'd think that having
knee surgery is going to hamper you, but then it
is Novak as well, and he does everything to the
utmost professional standards, and and he tried it out with
practice sets, with training sessions and all that, and felt

(02:22):
that it was strong enough to get him through and
then you know, to be in the final. Or is
I think it was Carlos who called him superman.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Is it a changing of the guard. Do you think
or got another major in him?

Speaker 2 (02:37):
I think maybe he's got one more possibly, But you know,
I think it's been a changing of the guard for
the last year, even eighteen months. So but these are
the two guys like Janik Sinna and Carlos Alcaras that
are going to dominate now. And between the two of them,
they won all the majors that have been played this year.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
And the ladies on Barboracha coover Ladies single Wombledon Tennis Champion.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
A good performance by her, yeah, and the emotions for
her because you know, she was remembering her late coach,
Janna Nevotna, somebody I knew pretty well who won Wimledon
in nineteen ninety eight, and I think they started working
in twenty fourteen, and Yanna passed away in twenty seventeen
of cancer. She was only forty nine, so you know,

(03:29):
I think she was certainly inspired. And if you saw
the final. At the end, Barbora blew a kiss to
the sky and then you know, she held it together
very well on court, but when she went off court
to the into the clubhouse and saw her name on
the honor board and it was pointed out to her
there's Yana's name in nineteen ninety eight, that's when she

(03:52):
broke down.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Yeah. That's pretty special, really, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Yeah, absolutely so, Craig.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
You're able to take a few days off now, what's
Nick's for the multimedia megastyle? Like yourself.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
I'm heading home tomorrow, back to Sydney after two months
on the road, and I'm certainly looking forward to it.
I've bagged going to the Olympics. I've I mean for
a number of reasons. I've I had everything in line,
and then I thought, no, I'm away. I've been away
for two months. This would extend things by another three weeks.
It would only give me two weeks at home before

(04:24):
the US opened another two month trips, so I decided
to head home.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Good one, Craig. We appreciate your contribution to our show.
Thank you so much. Safe travels pleasure.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Thanks
