Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on
gold Sport.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Twelve away from eight here on gold Sport in the
Country Sport Breakfast. Well, time to wrap up season four
of Sale GP. And it wasn't to be for the
Black Foils on San Francisco Harbor yesterday in the winner
take all two million dollar race, they finished in third
place over all. Jesse Chu joins us just to row
back in the Country Morning, Jesse Morning BK. The Black
(00:29):
Foils just it didn't go their way, and all the
races in San Francisco over the weekend did it.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
There's a brutal, brutal way to finish that. The team
didn't quite fire. The boat wasn't quite probably where it
needed to be, and I mean conditions were tough. It
was right on the edge and the others were going
to be hard to beat in those conditions. But they
send it on. I mean, it's been their weekend, really,
isn't it. Across across every kind.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Of the platform was set for them to them to
do with the Cinderella story from.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Last place in season three all the way up to
one in season for it's pretty impressive.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
So can you put your finger on just what went
wrong with that with Peter Berling and your brother and
the rest of the team on board the Black Boars boat.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Well, I think we could have very been easily just
sitting here with the win undered about. I think it's
pretty fine Margins and that winn of States all final
set up.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
You look at the numbers and how that went on
the first day, that were they were pretty good across
the board. The data came out that they were that
they were strong, they were sailing the boat fast, they
were sailing less distance.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Yeah, this startiuing was was okay and they were pretty
well based in that final. They were probably a tenth
of a second off the line where they where they
needed to be and fine just had that slightly bigger
jump on them. And if that wasn't the case, I
think that final was always going to be ever made
(01:59):
it one first was going to be very hard to
beat in those conditions stand for and intended just too
now to.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Give up Leeds. So yeah, I think we got to
remember as well, they've just come off a two week
intense period in Barcelona commissioning the new vote to the
America's Cup. So you know, I won't say that they
went they weren't focused on it, but they're certainly probably
the most busy team out of all of these, all
(02:26):
these RGP squads.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
All right, well that's season four done and dusted. The
news came out last week. Of course, the new season
that gets underway in November. Number one. We get an
event back in Auckland, which you'll be exciting in January,
won't it.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
Yeah, back to Auckland. Great sum a year as well,
you know, if you get.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Some awesome conditions.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
I was down at the ruin zone got Squadron last
week and sitting out looking over the racecourse there. I mean,
they need to step up. Christ Churs turned it on
for a couple of years, albeit a dolphin action. We
go to Auckland, we go again. I have no doubt
that I'll be there for the teams love coming to
New Zealand, So that to me was Halifat's gone now
(03:06):
in Canada, people love going there. I think Newalkland's probably
going to be the one that people are most looking
forward to go to. But they're jamming, you know, more
seasons and season five than last time. They're really starting
to roll these things out. We're going to have new
teams and going to new places that we haven't been before,
so you know, the stages set for it for a
big diason. I think. I think that the Black Boys
(03:28):
a well set, trying to keep growing, keep pushing in
the team, and the setups brutal, the winner takes all final.
It's not my favorite, not my favorite thing that trying
to come from an unbiased perspective as well, I don't
think it's a reflection of the season as a whole,
and I think it's really quite a reflection of Dalian
(03:50):
as a whole. I mean, it's such a variable sport
that rewards consistency and they want to takes all stuff.
But as far as I know, it's back for Sea five,
so we're going to get used to it. But it's
going to be an action packed one, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
January eighteenth and nineteenth. And also, as you mentioned, three
new three new races Brazil, Germany and Switzerland, and that'll
be interesting. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
No, I mean the Germans, the Germans love this sailing,
believe it on. I think that's going to be one
of the standouts of the season. I'm looking forward to
that one. A massive ocean racing your fan base there,
but they I know, they've really been in behind the
German team, so that's going to be a good one.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
Switzerland, you know.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Going to Geneva, I'm I'm not sure about that one.
It could be a bit of a light air condition
kind of tripped off event. They're always quite fun as well.
And then yeah, I think everyone's everyone's looking for the
party in Brazil. I think that's going to be a
grade event going down there, and can't wait to see
that that squad as well. That team hasn't been announced
(04:50):
yet and there's a.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Few roomor's plowing around of who's going to be involved in.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
The team, and that's exciting as well.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
If that comes to fruition watch with interest.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Tickets go on sale for the auckland E End in September. Jesse.
I know you're at the airport ready to catch your
flight home, so we'll let you go and get that aeroplane.
Thanks very much, very.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Good season five jes b Gate Jesse.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
He took joining us here sale GP. Season done and dusted,
not the way we wanted it to finish.
