Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good Country Sport, Breakfast Netball Shorts session with the Vonn
Willering Go Gold Gold Sport.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Yes, just one round to go, joining us on the
show this morning for my silver Firn coach and Gold
Sport commentator if On Willing Morning.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Of on Yes, good morning here, talk about as being
in the last round and certainly next week is going
to be unreal. But really enjoyed this weekend's game and
there was two tough games and one blowout game.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
All right, well let's go back defending champions Northern Mystics
finally looking like the defending champs. Big win over the
top of the table Pulse on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Yep, but you have a look at it and again,
you know, Grace Meiki played the entire game. She ended
up with fifty seven out of sixty four. Kuiava also
was on, but she actually went off late in the
in the game and she had a bit of a
nickel and I just hope that was just a precaution
that she went off. But Mystics they played a console
game throughout and yeah, it's almost like you know they're

(00:59):
coming to the at the time of the season and
Sokolet speeds and actually was suspended for a clumsy intercepts
for a couple of minutes, and really it didn't affect
their play at all. They just carried on as they were.
But should the Mystics and the Pulse play again, ed
is going to be a much closer encounter than what
we got because reason being, and it was interesting. Mystics

(01:22):
again started with Thinks at goal attack and nothing against her,
but when Vouie came on in the second quarter, because
she actually likes to shoot, it just changed the whole
concept and the Mystics won the second quarter twenty two
to thirteen, and that's where the game was lost for
the Pulse. Yeah, and you've got a situation, right. Thinks

(01:44):
is a good feeder of Grace Miweki and maybe she
is just provides stability before Voui comes on, because when
Villie comes on, she actually is prepared to shoot. And
she actually shot ten out of twelve in the game.
So yeah, interesting from them. Yeah, that second quarter just
killed them because it was forteen It was forty all
in the first quarter, and it was sixteen all in

(02:06):
the last quarter, so yeah, the damage was done. Mystics
had seventy eight attempts and the Pulse only had seventy,
but Salmon started a goal shoot for the Pulse and
off that was pretty cool, you know. And then later
on she was replaced by Warmsley. Salmon got nineteen out
of twenty three, so probably wasn't as accurate as she
would have liked to have been. Warmsley twenty nine out

(02:27):
of thirty five, and Matura played the whole game, so
they're almost at full strength, you know. I think that's
changing Salmon and Warmsley around. I think that that's a
tactical change, and I think that really works for them.
But they will look at that game and look and going, WHOA,
what happened in that second quarter. They'll focus on that
second quarter as to what happened one I thought the

(02:49):
Mystics came out blazing, you know, and just yeah, every
crumb that was there they went for, and the Pulse
was caught on the back foot. And this was one
time that really Jackson didn't have and Kelly Jackson had
had no answers to Grace and wiki. She tried to
make it from behind. That didn't work. Marking in fun

(03:10):
didn't work. So yeah, that's something they'll look at. But
I expect should they match up again, and they could
depending as to who wins the Tactics Pulse game, because
the expectation would be that Mystics would go and beat
the Stars next weekend. So yet that will certainly be
a much closer encounter, I believe.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
And then on Sunday of on, the Magic had a
win over the Mainland Tactics to keep their faint playoff
spots alive.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Yeah, and you sound surprised by that, And it was
interesting because the Technics were playing there was they won
a home final, so they had real reason to play.
But the Magic exactly the same because they want to
secure the third spot and really it's going to come
down to the last game. So that's really great for
the competition. But Echanasio and Tui, they just played with confidence,

(04:02):
They worked well together, Echinasia took some really long shots
and you know they were just working really hard. Tui
in fact off thirty two out of thirty four and
Echinasio nineteen out of twenty, So you couldn't ask for
much better than that. For the Tactics. Done started and
she pro much a different perspective than Ali. Bird Done

(04:24):
got twenty six out of twenty seven. Done as a
holding shooter, and so she likes to have that ball
into the space. And that's why the mid court players
for the Tactics, they have to change their approach depending
whether Done or Ali Bird is on the court, because
Bird likes to take the ball over the player. She's
taller than Done and is able to do so. And

(04:44):
again SELBYA. Ricketts was in there and she got sixteen
out of nineteen. But the interesting thing was that for attempts,
both teams had fifty four attempts, so the game could
have gone either way, and towards the end, it was
a situation where Magic just had to hold on to
a slender lead at the end. But yeah, it was
It was actually a really good game because there was

(05:06):
a lot of pressure in that game, and yeah, it
was actually quite nice to see Magic come through that.
And Magic is sort of improving with each game play.
But yeah, it's going to be an interesting situation because
Magic are going to be playing Steel next weekend. You
would expect them to win that and then the next
the next day, pressure on the Mystics. They have to

(05:28):
win against Stars to make the third spot. So Magic
will be looking at that game but yeah, who knows
what's going to happen, because would you have thought the
Texas were going to lose to the Magic. Probably not.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
No, you're right there, and we'll just go to the
last night's game. It was the bottom teams playing each
other and it was the Stars winning by one. So
still still exciting over the steel.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Yeah, because when we were into the game and we
did the commentary on that game and we thought, oh no,
the two bottom plays teams, you know, we've got to
be enthusiastic here and what actually a really good game.
And you know, Malcolm and myself we look at the
John going, hey, we really that was a really good
game to commentate, and mainly because well, yeah, just the
whole performance. I suppose with the Stars again, Faulkner and

(06:14):
Malastara said the goal attack role, but both teams gave
away possession and you thought, you know, here one team
is starting to come to the party, and then they'd
make a mistaken and the other team would take over.
But it's interesting the Stars actually found it easier to
find their shooters. They probably got the ball into their
shooters with three or four passes from the center pass off,

(06:36):
whereas with this with the Steel, they had a lot
of trouble getting the ball into their attacking circle. Yes,
I thought Fowler and Burleie played well together, but also
they're just hesitant to feed both Namana and Hipna, and
there were times when they were screaming out for the
ball because Namana in particular is a holding shooter and

(06:57):
she needs that ball in the space, whereas I think
that the mid court players were looking to see movement
in there before they are prepared to do the passing,
and that hasn't changed throughout the season. But the interplay
between heaven And and Nomena actually worked really well, and
they with quick passes there as well, but they were
guilty really of passing the ball back to the transverse

(07:19):
line too often for attempts. The Steel actually had more
attemptive goal than the Stars, and I know it's only
one statistics, but sixty attempts and the Stars only had
fifty eight. So you could say it was a better
shooting accuracy, yeah, but it went beyond that. Actually, it
was also about errors there. But boy, yeah, another game.
I guess you've always said about Stars, Oh, you know,

(07:41):
lost opportunity when they you know, always within five. Well,
this was a lost opportunity for the Steal, But yeah,
it was a really it was a really good game.
But the boy set up some challenges for next weekend.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Oh yeah, if the if the Mystics beat the Stars,
they're earn. If they lose, the Magic must beat the
Steal and they steak in of the final. Looking forward
to it.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Yeah, but the Martin Night game is Pulse versus Tactics.
Now that could almost be a final, and they will
play that as if it is a final because winning
team goes straight to the finals, so they don't have
to have a playoff situation. And that is critical because
the chances are whoever loses are going to be playing
the Mystics, and both these teams have had big losses

(08:24):
to the Mystics, so really they don't want to be
in that position. So yeah, three, I think it's going
to be three games where there's quite a lot at stake.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Von, great to catch up, take the week off and
we'll look forward to next weekend.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Yeah absolutely, Von
