Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sport, the Latest from the Land, and just great Rock.
It's the Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sport,
your home of live commentary.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Stay Away from Leave.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
I've been looking forward to catching up with our US
correspondent after the happening state side in the past twenty
four hours. With Joe Biden finally announcing he is not
going to run on the Democratic ticket for the presidential
elections in November, I don't think that's a surprise, Amy Taylor,
good morning, Good.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
Morning, BK. Never a dull moment over here. Yeah, it's
not a surprise. Not historic, I mean historic given the
lateness of it, because we're now one hundred and six
days away from the election. But both President Truman and
President Johnson had pulled out of an election because of
bad pulling numbers. But they did it late in March

(00:57):
when they did it, So yeah, not a surprise. He
announced at one forty six. Some people are saying they
did it at forty six because of he's the forty
six president, which is kind of interesting. But when he
first sent the notice, he didn't it wasn't verbal because

(01:18):
he wasn't feeling up to it because of COVID, so
it was on social media. He didn't he didn't announce
his backing of Vice President Harris when he first did it.
That came a little bit later. And Vice President Harris
has the support of the majority of the Party right,
one hundred and fifty nine out of two hundred and
twelve representatives of the House, thirty three out of forty

(01:39):
seven senators, sixteen out of twenty three Democratic governors, and
several potential candidates that could have could have stepped up
as opposing rivals, such as governor's California Governor Newsom and
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, which both were talked about as

(02:00):
you know, likely opposition to her. They've backed her. Andy
Bursher has just backed her. Mark Kelly is still floating
around in the background. Gabby Gifford's husband from Arizona, which
is a really important swing state, hasn't said anything that
I've seen yet. And the swing states is really what

(02:20):
everyone's talking about, because Harris doesn't doesn't really poll well
there because those swing states and polls are hypothecical. Polls
are really not very helpful and they're notoriously inaccurate. But
the swing states such as Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
They're more middle class voters who are really kind of

(02:42):
disinterested in politics. They don't spend a lot of time
obsessing about them, and they're more middle in their views
than prominent loyal Democrats. So those are going to be
really important for her. So somebody like Mark Kelly could
do really well well, maybe as even a running mate
to Harris. So it'll be interesting to see what she does.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
It was interesting when she said that she would she
would be happy to stand as the Democratic presidential nominee
how to speak. Suddenly the funds just started pouring back
into the poty, didn't they.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Yeah, so Summer saying it was the biggest event in
Democratic fund raising history. One Silicon Valley bundler as they're called,
raised a million dollars in thirty minutes. Fifty million donated
last night, so it was a huge windfall. The war
chest that Biden pretty much hands over to Harris is

(03:41):
ninety six million dollars, and I think that may really
be the key to why no one stepped forward, because
because she's on the paperwork for the fundraising documents or whatever,
that war chest, it does get turned over to her.
As far as I understand, I am by no means
expert in this area, and there's all sorts of shenanigans

(04:03):
that Republicans are talking about and other people are saying,
could happen, could not happen. I don't know, but the easiest,
cleanest pathway is for Harris to become the candidate. From
a fundraising perspective, we gets all the money.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
We white know officially whether she will be the candidate
until the Democratic Party convention, which is in a couple
of weeks, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Yeah, so a couple of weeks out there are forty
six hundred delegates that she has to win up until
I think just this morning I heard that Tennessee, North Carolina,
and South Carolina have voted unanimously to give her to
back her. So she's got three states full delegates, but
she still has I don't exactly know how many that is,

(04:49):
but she's got to have the forty six hundred delegates,
you know, a majority of those backing her. So it'll
be interesting to see what happens.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
I mean, would she make a good president?

Speaker 3 (05:01):
I think so. I mean, look, there are a lot
of people that can make good presents. But I think
at this point, given one hundred and six days out
and the money need that's needed to get there, I
you know, I think she's probably the best horse for
the race right now.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Will she push Donald Trump hot?

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Oh yeah? I mean, look, she's a former prosecutor, so
she's got the grit, she's got the debate skills, she's
got the aggression. And if she looks at her past
history and where she fell short in previous elections and
has some good advisors around her to you know, mitigate

(05:40):
her downside, you know, I think she can do it
and gets a good running mate that's gonna pick her
up in the swing states, I think she could do it.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
It's never a dull moment in US politics. I mean,
always great to catch up. Enjoy your week.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Thanks BK, you have a good one.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Amy thayla Us correspondent and as Amy Minchin. There looks
like your running mate would be producer Mark Kelly. So
what's the story. Have you been keeping something secret from me? Mark?

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Yeah? Just in negotiations at the moment with Missus Harrison
and just into me bosses as well, contract negotiations, So
we'll see. Oh yeah, well, I might be heading over
the States. Been looking after thee that Phoenix, Arizona for
a couple of years. Used to be also an astronaut,
Mark Kelly's really he's made me look very poor with

(06:26):
all the things he's done. Gone to space a couple
of times. Now he's a Congressman. Yes, so fascinating times
in US politics, that's for sure. And it's great to
get the Mark Kelly name out there.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
And we now know you're a Democrat, so there you go.
It's not a Republican.
