Speaker 1 (00:00):
Whether it's gun boots or rugby boots.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
The Country Sport Breakfast has you covered on gold Sport,
your home of live commentary.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Well off, we go.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
To the Land of Hope and Glory to catch up
with our UK correspondent, Talk Sport, Cricket editor and a
presenter of the follow on Cricket podcast Only Norman's put
the kids to Bed? Now morning John, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Good morning to your BK And yes, sorry, it's summer
holidays here, so all the timings go out the window.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
I'm sure you remember what it's like.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
So yeah, I was busy wrestling and arguing, cajoling and
persuading young children to try and go to bed. But yeah,
I mean you've crossed over to the land of hope
and glory. I mean say New Zealand was the lad
of hope and glory over the last three weeks or
so ten golds. I mean you believe it must have
been top of the old top of the old population

(00:55):
medal tree. I would have thought, yeah, there.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Was a hole that came out. I think it might
have been done by the Times in London or one
of your esteemed newspapers and it actually had New Zealand
at the top of the table.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
There you go, there you go. Thought that it must
have been close. I mean I did have a look
and yeah, ten goals. That's that's pretty good going only
four shy of us and I mean we've got about
what seventy million of US as opposed to five, so
I'd say that's pretty good going New Zealand.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Yeah, and certainly our olympians are actually arriving home in
about two hours from now. Yours arrived home yesterday, I believe,
or most of them, Yeah they did.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
I mean, look, it's been wonderful over here. There was
a little bit of you know what it's like.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
You know, we're very proud of how we hosted the
Olympics in twenty twelve in London, as in London and myself,
you know, it was you know, it was pretty stirring
stuff and the opening ceremony was something I look back
on with real fondness. I was fortunate enough to be
able to go and watch a day's a day at
the Olympics as well, and of course, so we enjoyed

(02:01):
it so much. And got to be said, there was
some negativity surrounding a little bit of a bizarre opening ceremony,
and of course all the problems with the River Saine.
But all in all, I thought Paris did a fantastic job.
The sport was sent to stage, there was loads of
incredible stories along the way, and yeah, and then Tom

(02:21):
Cruise popped up at the end and we thought, Wow,
Los Angeles twenty twenty eight, I mean, how crazy is
that going to be?

Speaker 1 (02:27):
So? Yeah, No, it was all good stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Wasn't that. The sitting was wonderful in Paris. I mean,
with the backdrop of things like the Eiffel Tower and
the Chantalise and you know everything else, the sitting, you
just couldn't beat it.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Well, you couldn't. And do you know what I reckon?

Speaker 3 (02:44):
There's only one place on Earth which could rival I've
actually surpassed Paris. I mean, Paris, I think is the
most visited city on the planet. But I mean, I'm
not sure if you've been to Rome, BKA. But you know,
could you imagine an Olympics in Rome with a coliseum
in the background and the Pantheon and all those incredible
you know sites and tourist destinations that go all the

(03:08):
way back two thousand and three thousand years or so.
But yeah, I think Paris did a fantastic job. But yeah,
it doesn't exactly hurt your cause. And you've got the
Eiffel Tower or shaan Zelazi or the Louver in the background, doesn't.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
It, No, it doesn't. Indeed, all right, let's get back
to the UK now, and it's the start of the
Premier League this weekend.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Oh well, it's almost like football never went away, because
of course it didn't really, did it.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Yeah, but we're back and yeah, I mean where do
you begin.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
I mean, there's obviously going to be a Liverpool side
that's going to be without Jurgen Klop Eric ten Half.
I mean how many times you talk about his managerial
position when you you know in the last season he's
one of the favorites to get the chop, although Moresco
at Chelsea is actually probably the Booki's favorite after I

(03:59):
think Charles won one game in six in pre season,
so despite having another ridiculous outlay of money onto their squad.
So big questions about that is Manchester United against my
team Fulham that kicks everything off on Friday. But the
big news today out of the Premier League is that
and again it's a story that we've spoken about on occasion.

(04:21):
So essentially it's come out today that this cloud that's
been hanging over Manchester City in terms of their financial situation,
it's been announced today that the case will be heard
and we're expecting it to be decided upon probably by
January or February, so you know, whatever happens with that.
And for listeners who aren't quite sure what this situation is,

(04:43):
essentially the charges leveled at Manchester City is that they've
broken the laws or the rules surrounding financial fair play.
So either they're found guilty and they're docked a lot
of points, potentially relegated big because of it, and there's
an asterisk next to a lot of their achievements over

(05:04):
the last ten years, or they found not guilty and
then the Premier League's financial fair play rules are just
thrown out the window and everyone just says, well, what
was all that about. Either way, it's going to be
seismic for the Premier League. So whilst I'm sure we're
going to be talking about the action on the field
for the next eight months or so, there's going to
be plenty going on off it as well.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, absolutely, And talking about on the field and off
the field. Ben Stokes not a good site yesterday I
think I was playing in the one hundred over there,
looped off the field with a lot of assistance, not
really serious injury.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Well, yeah, it's has come through today.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
He's going to miss the short Anchor series which gets
underway next week. So that's the three Test series, which
means Olipope is going to have to captain for the
first time at international level in ben Stokes's absence. But yeah,
as you say, he was going for a quick single
and just pulled up and immediately was in trouble. I
think a lot of us were surprised that, you know,

(06:02):
in this day and age, it wasn't a stretcher.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Or a buggy on hand to help him from the field.
Is stead. He had to kind of limp look for age.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
In fact, so longer than a game of one hundred
is supposed to take, but to actually get off the field,
and everybody's fears were realized today when it has been
announced he's got a great two hamstring tear. So he's
going to miss that Test series. England's next series after this,
Franket is in Pakistan in October. Ben Stokes hopefully is

(06:32):
going to be fit for that, but you know that's
going to be a push. And then of course in
New Zealand in December, so I'm sure it'll be fit
for that one.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Well, we'd like to think so. Anyway. Hey John, nice
to nice to catch up mate. We'll do it again
next week. Thank you so much. Enjoy your week.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Yeah, great to chat to you, BK and hello to
all your listeners as well, and we're chat next week.
