Speaker 1 (00:00):
Right, some not breaking news, but I think massive news
when it comes to the sport of netblele tearing, shooter
and Sulvan's grace. Nowiki won't play for New Zealand next year.
She can this year as she signs with the New
South Wales Swifts and the Australian Super Netble competition for
next season. The twenty two year old, who's played for
the Northern Mystic since debuting and in the A and
Z Premiership in twenty nineteen, was announced by the Swiss

(00:22):
Fire statement on their website. Nowiki told Enzi to me
she was keen to move across the ditch because she
wasn't challenged enough in Arterra. I didn't see any other
club in New Zealand being able to tick those boxes
for me in terms of growing my game and developing.
So there's an opportunity to play for the Swifts came
across to me and I really had to sit on it.
But do feel right now that this move will be

(00:43):
massive for growing my netble. Joining us now to talk
about it as the person you want to get When
it comes to opinion, Evon will are in.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Good morning Evon, Yes, good morning, Craig.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
What do you make of this signing and the comments
from Grace Nowiki about not being challenged enough and wanting
to explore other opportunit unities.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yeah, I mean it didn't come as a surprise to me,
but what a wonderful to look in another way, what
a wonderful opportunity for Grace is some corps as the
best league in the world because the number of import
players involved. Remember that teams are not restricted to just
one import player, so it's almost like a world competition.
She will have pressure games week in and week out,

(01:23):
but I think that it needs to be kept in perspective.
She's going to the Swift. The coach brioni Akle is
also the specialist coach for the Silver Firm, so I
think that the contact will only be for a year
and her progress is going to be closely monitored. So yeah,
if the year had been common of games or the
World Championships, I understand people's concern, but I think that

(01:46):
either she would not have gone at that time or
she would have gained an exemption. But I agree what
we now need to look at. What NEPO New Zealand
needs to look at is improving the quality of the
A and Z competition.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Yeah, there's two part so that the first one I
was going to ask you at the moment, because you
have to play the Anzi Premiership to be able to
be qualified for the Silver Funds unless you get an exemption,
which I think Evon correct me if I'm wrong, was
that one hundred games if you played for the Silver Funds.
Is it a chance now where they may need to
look to change that rule we've got it in rugby
as well, or is it a case of saying, actually,
we need to develop our competition to take care of

(02:21):
what Grace is mentioned about being challenged.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Yeah, I hope that it's the latter, because we want
a decent competition here. We don't want the A and
Z to be turned into a development league. So yes,
we want to retain our players, but I will also understand,
you know what a tremendous opportunity you know that was
so yep. I think it's a situation where we need
to retain but also I think that we do need

(02:46):
to gain some international players ourselves. We had it in
the past and our rule state we can have one
import player the team, and I think that certainly would
add to the competition, and certainly that proved the case
many years ago when we did have those players. Unfortunately
those are the players obviously have gone into the Australian competition.
So yes, we need to look at our own competition.

(03:08):
And yes it's going to go down to two rounds.
I am assuming that a two point shot will be included.
Maybe not both rounds, maybe only one. I don't know,
but something certainly needs to change because Grace, I understand
what she said, like you have a look at it.
They had well six losses and still made the finals.
Well what does that tell you? And that is something

(03:29):
that we need that certainly that when New Zealand needs
to address.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
It's a real critical time at the moment. Evon, isn't
it for Netborn the future?

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Yeah, it's lucky that next year, you know, there's no
major events. Yes, we'll have a you know, Cambridge Series
probably unassuming against South Africa and then you've got the
consolation a couple against Australia and basically like you would
have weighed that up as well, you know what she
was going to miss out on, you know, but this
is about her own personal growth and you know, for

(03:58):
whatever reason, one of the reasons is definitely not so
much about our competition, but how challenging the Australian competition
is going to be for her. The only thing that
I have will not have a concern about. But yes,
Race is going to be gaining an experience because she
is going to be playing against defenders from all around
the world. If you have a look at it, the

(04:20):
Sun call the league defenders. The defenders are from Australia,
Jamaica and England and they're all their top players. So yes,
she will gain, but so will the defenders because they
will learn what they need to do against her. So yes,
in that respect, certainly she needs to change up her
game and that must all go well for New Zealand.
And also we should not be relying just on one individual,

(04:44):
so we need that certainly where I've actually got New
Zealand trialsand progress starting today, so it's going to be
interesting to see, you know, what teams are going to
be selected, and yeah, just the progress that actually individual
players have made.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
I could keep talking to you, I've got to keep
moving unfortunately, Evan, because I got a lot of questions
we might have to get you back on before I finish,
So I can talk to you more about this, but
because there was a lot of stuff that comes out
of it. But I got new sporting weather coming up.
But appreciate your time this morning as always, Evon.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Yep not pleasure and keep an eye on them, keep
an eye on the news coming up.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
Okay, right home, there we go. We heard it first here. Ah,
thanks very good, I could. I've got a lot of
stuff that comes out of it because netball is in
a real yeah, transition period, I'll call it.
