Speaker 1 (00:00):
Yeah, if one was back underway over the weekend and
the Dutch town of Zandfort joining us now to break
down all that is a writer for if one Michael
Clark in morning, Michael.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
How are you no good? Thanks?

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Well, Lando Norris, he's the quickest. And I suppose the
thing is, is there enough time left in this competition?
From Dover take max for stepping at the top of
the driver's standings.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Heats of time. There's nine races to nine races to go,
so he's seventy points behind, twenty five points for a win.
The thing these days is that cars are so extraordinarily reliable.
The days where Chris Aimon would be leading ninety percent
of a Formula One Grand Prix and then have something small, tiny, irrelevant,

(00:48):
almost bake on his car and force another retirement, would well,
they're largely gone. All twenty drivers that started the race
finish the race. There wasn't the yellow flat, that wasn't
a safety car. You know, it's the cars. So long
as there's no crashes, the chances are that the cars

(01:09):
just keep going. Their reliability is that good these days,
So it's going to be a matter of speed and
the McLaren seem to have found something. I mean they
were absolutely completely all at sea at the start of
the season, so they have found something which means the
cars are as good on really fast circuits as they

(01:30):
are on tight, twisty circuits like the Zandvoortz track that
the race was run on this morning. So next time
at Monza, the fastest track of all, that'll be a
real test. Can McLaren do as well there as they
as they did today?

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yeah? Well it's great, isn't it? Because what is that?
I think we had six winners this year. I think
both narses now back that up. But what have we seen?
Is it from McLaren. Why have they found this because,
as you see it, at the start they were floundering.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
I think it's seven winners this year? Crazy? Yeah, well,
look they say they bring updates to different races, and
the development of a Formula One car, how it is
at the end of a season is often quite different
to how it was at the start, and not all
upgrades work. Some of the upgrades that Ferrari have tried

(02:25):
have actually made the car slower, so they've ditched their
upgrades in some cases and gone back to how things
were at the start. Mercedes probably were the big shock
of this weekend because after having won a couple of
races in recent times and having found their mojo again
after a season a bit at least in the doldrums,

(02:50):
they've they were nowhere this weekend. Absolutely they would have left.
They'll be leaving the Netherlands feeling very dejected and where
their paces gone. So McLaren have just continued their upgrades
and whatever they've found. It's extraordinary to think that the

(03:12):
dominance of Red Bull from last year, where you could
have wondered that how many more years will it take
for everybody else to catch up? Well, such as the
pace of Formula One, I caught up very quickly and
to the point now where I almost got the impression
in the post race interview this morning that Max Verstappen

(03:32):
probably would have been surprised if he'd won the Dutch Grandpris.
He won the start, he led the first I think
eighteen laps, and I started to think to myself, well,
we've had some great races this year in Formula One
and this isn't going to be one of them. And
then all of a sudden, Lando Norris that cast so

(03:52):
much kinder on its tires, and he started closing the gap,
closing the gap, and eventually he was in front and
just drove away. The gap that he had at the
end was just over twenty seconds. That's the biggest gap
between first and second in Formula One for ages, and
it just highlights it wasn't just a victory for McLaren.

(04:15):
It was a thrashing and it was a threshing over
maximum Verstappen, the dominant driver of the era, on his
home soil, on a track he's never lost on. So
it was it was pretty emphatic when you put it
that way.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
Yeah, he nearly he basically did to miss the stepen.
What the stepen? When he passed him, you could just
about and we've seen in the last few of the
steppens maybe been a little bit dirty or try to
block lines. He just about pulled the left and let
him go.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
To say, well, Vastappen hasn't really never shown any Michael
Schumaker like dirtiness on the track, and so the steppen
he's hard. He never is going to make things easy.
But I think he knew today that there was absolutely
no point being obstructive any more than he needed to be,

(05:04):
so it was it was a clean move by Formula
One standards for the lead, and we've had plenty of
them this year, which is such a contrast with last season.
I mean, quite frankly, last season challenged any Formula One
tragic as to what their commitment was to the sport,

(05:24):
because every time you got up in the middle of
the night or the early hours of the morning to
watch yet another race that was going to be almost
certainly a red ball victory and almost certainly a max
of a step and win. So big difference from twenty
twenty three to twenty twenty four.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Yeah, and we saw Ferrari finally get back on the
partium because they've had a tough run of it. And
then I think LAKERK even said that he's a little
bit surprised he was where he was.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
He was absolutely are exactly his words at the end
of the race, and they were not expected. There were
three teams that were expected to be in contention, Red Bull,
McLaren and Mercedes. Mercedes weren't, as I said before, and Ferrari,
even though they weren't in contention, they performed, They optimized,

(06:11):
probably maximized really everything they could possibly have expected from
their cars today. So yeah, they leave the Netherlands heading
for home track Monza next weekend, probably feeling pretty good
about things, a hell of a lot better than Mercedes
will be feeling.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Yeah, and we're always on Liam Lawson. Watch whatch beans
we try and see Prairiers end up being sex. I
think Riccardo was twelveth so those two may be quite heavy.
Riccardo not on the point. So I suppose the question
is will we see Liam Lawson this year? We're all
holding our breath.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Well, this season might be a bit much to hope for,
unless there's an injury somewhere. But the latest comment from
Helmet Marco, who is a walking quote machine, so he
sees something almost all the time and it's a matter
of reading between the lines to actually believe and try

(07:06):
and decipher what he's really saying. He has indicatedly and
will be on the grid for next season. Quite what
that means or in which team? Who knows, Whether it
means that he will be on the grid next season
but not necessarily at the start, or whether it means
he'll be right there from round one during the entire
twenty twenty five season that's what we're all hoping for.

(07:28):
But as I said before, Helmet Marco says lots of
things because he knows he's going to be quoted, and
no matter what he says and does, thiks.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
I appreciate your time this morning, Michael, Thank you very much.
There we go, Michael Clark join us yet Formula one
just to go back yere so Ed Norris. Then we
had Hamilton as Street, Hamilton Russell the one since what
the twenty third of June, since Max for Steppens one
and if one and Michael just said, used to wake
up and I was bore how much he won by
not did he win? So it's interesting
