Speaker 1 (00:00):
Eighteen minutes past seven o'clock. Time to talk rugby. Let's
review the NPC from the weekend and joining us as
he does at most times at this time every week
and Strawn, good.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Morning and hair gang morning, Craig.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
How oh great. I didn't obviously watch every game, it's
not enough time, but I really enjoyed all the games.
I watched the highlights this weekend and what sort of
out to me it was the attack side of the game.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Ye, I totally agree. I think you nailed that. It
was sort of being not muddling along until a round
one and two, but I thought, yeah, offensively, all the
teams really started to light it up on the weekend.
So I guess it's spending more time together weeking through
the games, fixing things and are not working so well
and year it was a really exciting week ind of rugby.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
One of it, Yeah, certainly was. I mean it kicked
off with the Brepper Hawks Bay in Northland. It was
a shell challenge. It ended up being fifty five thirty,
but again Hawks Bay just hit me with their attack
and their innovation and their ability to strike from anywhere.
That was a great start to the weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yeah, it was and I think you know, they absorbed
a lot of pressure from Norfolk. Yes, nine up to
be at twenty minutes with Norton pretty much dominating the game.
But as soon as Hawk's Bay got rolling with the
likes of mcclutchy and Fakatava, when they start playing on
top with space around rocks, et cetera, you know they
can just light it up. And they did and of
course they may met them shifted off the back of
(01:17):
the and it was a big win by hawks Bay
in the end.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Yeah, testm we ended up forty eight three over County Spinacow.
But oh the big match up on Saturday afternoon Hawkland
versus Canterbury. It was a real army swain. Canterbury ended
up getting up twenty seven to twenty one. So Auckland
none from three.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Yeah, not commoners that we talk about that on a
Monday morning Elkham being zero and three in a competition.
You know, I watched the game obviously called it with Elliott. Yeah,
first half was was pretty average made to be honest,
but really did start to light up and be more
film walks out of in that seagan half. But all
kind of having got a nine they've lost self of Fornaki,
you know Plumbers, Harry Plumbers across with the All Blacks.
(01:55):
I think that's where they're where they're missing at the moment.
If at nine and ten pivot. Of course, Canterbury had
Willie Hines playing and also the young man who's probably
the fourth or fifteen from down in Canterbury, so I
think they were probably better on the night of deserve
to win.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Yeah, they've got a young man called Ron Kardate. I
think who came Did he come off the bench?
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Yeah, Ryan came off in the last sort of fifteen
to twenty minutes. He actually made a big difference divisionally
when he came on. So great to bring those player.
I mean, Willie Heines is not young either as he Traig.
So having those experienced players come in and they kept
Ebry and you know through and through as well to
come on is really valuable for them.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yeah, South and went down to Tadanaki Taanaki starting to
look good thirty nine twenty four. But again South and
to me again they're lacking a team I think as well,
but you know, still far more competitive than that.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Being Yeah, Plague a better style of football I think
probably they normally would too, you know. I mean they
had some really nice moments on attack that Chadanaki team,
you know, probably similar to Hawk's Bay when they really
get moving to and think the young and Lenox and
Jacob and then of course you've got the strike power
of you know, run to my Kavuki Nipkins, You've got
(03:06):
nahl Or you know, you've got some real special pieces
out wide. So when they get moving that bloody hard
to stop. Yeah, they are.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
I didn't go to it, but my Tago by Plenty.
Bay of Plenty were unbeating. The Tago ended up getting
up thirty one twenty six. Pretty ordinary start to the game.
But then it was a try for try fist and
a Tago. That's two big wins in a row. So
after losing to south On in the first round, they
got their campaign back on track.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Yes, certainly had him there. I mean that was a
real up ups. It wasn't a round one potentially. And
of course so they won, you know, both a games
at forsythe Bar as well, so they building a nice
strong home record. That Bay of Plenty teams a good
one too.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
They are a good time. I enjoy watching bad Plenty
I know a Tago end up getting the chocolates. But
they are a good team to watch.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Yeah, it has been for a couple of years now,
you know, so obviously pretty well coached. They've got a good,
good roster as well. But you know, targer irresponded from
fourteen points down with about eighteen sixteen eighteen to go,
so you know, they just scored two converted tries to
put that one beyond doubt. Yeah, they chose them real
mental for them. And if you're say, you know, they
lost their fift game, so that's a really good turnaround for.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Them, and Wellington need to do it late thirty nine
thirty one over the neighbors a month or.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Two, yeah, mone ou or two. They really bought the
stilent style of football, didn't they the new stadium, So
I really enjoy watching games out of potty law. Obviously
they're not playing the Caketon this year and it does
sort of end itself to I just wonder whether some
of the provincial unions need to be playing at these
smaller grounds. I mean had about two thousand people.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Yeah, I found that a tough watcher. Again, no fault
of that any but yeah, it does look tough when
you see such a memo stadium that a week ago
was full and with the all Blacks then literally you
could see you could see that the steward's doing their
job with no one there.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Yeah, and I mean the small embarrassment too is that
Kelston played Saint Kent and the Curten raises like five
and a half thousand people there, and I mean not
man of them stayed around, and historically that is case.
But there are some you know, pretty good venues around
the city here where with the team to play. I
know they are playing a game at Aukland Grammar in
a few rounds time, and this Aukland team, I think
(05:11):
they might be playing nor Harbor, you know where they'll
put in some bleachers and you know it'll be about
five five and a half six thousand, those intimate sort
of crowd that it'll be perfect. And it's a historic
school ground as well, so you know that's a smart
move walk and rugby. But I just wonder, you know,
whether they should play a few more away from eating.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
Part Yeah, and just quickly North Harbor forty three. Why
can't I twenty nine North Harbor look very good?
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Yeah, but it wasn't it was a real armory. So
it was twenty two all into that second half and
then of course North Harbor really good lighted up at
k Banks four tries, but yeah, bryn Hall ed med.
Their halves were superb us today and you know they
were clearly the best team in the end.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
And just quickly you mentioned it, so I think that
I see Kelston got up over Saint Kent.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Yeah they did. They had a pretty biggin a big
physical team. We to get some mouse school actually, and
yeah they just had to stay with for seventy minutes,
but just big and strong and extremely well coached and
they've got a nice layer of yanksters coming through the school.
So an excellent win for them.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Thanks. I appreciate your time this morning, and you have
a great day you too. There we go Astel and
breaking down all the games you have, plenty of rugby,
plenty of excellent rugby. Will go with the Fada Parma
Cup as well. After eight o'clock
