Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hamish Mackay with you. Great to have your company, NPC
Buddings NPC Action at tonight a Polo Project stadium. It
is category taking on Hawk's Bay. Matt Todd, of course
that very fine Live Wire Open Sight Flaker Caterbory assistant
coach joins us now Matt coming off a good win
over a good win over Auckland. But this is a

(00:22):
pretty interesting competition. I mean, certainly Hawk's Bay looking in
good form.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah, they certainly are there three from three and playing
good footy, so certainly are going to be a challenging
for us tonight. But plenty of confidence taken from it
went away to Auckland on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
It's always a good one to get, is it, Matt?
For sure? Midwek forty Wednesday night, Fotty. What are the differences?
What are the things that you know that I mean,
we know back in the day you'll always hear from
Hue and Stuey Wilson and the Mark Shaws of this
world that they'd play a test on Saturday and play
MPC on Sunday or Tuesday. But what are the differences
with a midweek game.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
I think it's just a training time. You have you know,
the players love it. They don't have time to train,
so it's get excited for another game. So from that
point of view, the players they enjoy it. It's you
just got to worry about getting the body right to
go again. And it's probably the coaches more that struggle.
You know, you're very limited in the time you have,
so you got to be clear on what's important to

(01:21):
get across to the players. But from players point of view,
they love it. They get excited for another game.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Yeah, that's right, that's what and that's what they do,
isn't it. I mean, and that's your job to handle
the tough stuff in the top two inches and get
them out on the on the forty field prepared to go.
Have you got any new blood in your team that
we're sort of from a wider public perspective, media perspective
that we should be looking out for.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Yeah, the few new boys a young nine ten combination,
James Wader next year at James played well the last
few weeks and Nick debuted on the weekend, So they'ret
nine and ten. They're exciting young combination. And then Gus
Brown at tighthead. He's another young fellow who's you know,
ralishing the opportunity to probably get more game time than

(02:04):
an originally forty would and yeah, big futures ahead of
those sort of those leads. So looking forward to seeing
how they go tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
As we've seen, and this is where the All Blacks
have a competitive edge which they can take through. But
the front row. If you haven't got a front row,
you haven't got a rugby team. So tell us a
bit more about the likes of young Gus Brown. What's
this sort of background and what do you like about him?

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah, he's he's a young he's under twenty steel this year,
hasn't been propping for that long. He's sort of only
changed the last year of school, so he's still relatively
new to the front row. But great around the field.
Obviously scrummaging, you've got to learn some dark arts and
it takes time, and you know, you have some tough
days at the office. But he's he wants to get

(02:46):
better and he's putting the work in and you're excited
to see sort of his development. Each each opportunity to
get to he louns and grows a little bit more.
So yeah, just excited for another opportunity for him to
test himself tonight.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
And a good one too against Hawks Bay it will
be and then turn around and back it up against
Wellington and Ringuora.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yeah, it was awesome out there last year we played
Toadanachiada and ring Euur and it's great to take games
to the country and support we have out there was awesome.
So you know we'll get through this one tonight, but
certainly looking forward to Sunday out at ring Ere. It's
a great day and being tied in with the North
Canary Alsmere games a great sort of occasion for Kennedy Rugby.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Great stuff there as Matt Todd, Canterbury assistant coach star
playing Hawks Bay tonight and the Bunnings NPC
