Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joined now by permanent position. Now is bowling coaches great
news for the black Caps. Jacob Roam, Good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Jacob, good morning. How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Great?

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Thank you. Congratulations on the new full time role. I
guess you've been involved for a little while. What excites
you about taking on the job permanently, Well.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
I think just that sort of wraps it up. I
have had opportunities previously. They were short term, you know,
one series one, two gigs and you know, which was
still a fantastic opportunity for me, but it was kind
of like a start dating and expiring in a short
space of time. So the cool thing now is to
get my teeth into the role to really form and

(00:39):
create those connections with the players, you know, areas that
may need some development and actually actually grow something over
a longer period of time. So just the fact that
it's full time, you know, it's a number of years
the role and you know, let's hope we can start
to build something, you know, for the future for New
Zealand cricket.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Yeah, fantastic. So you've been in the game or life
at every level, on every stage as a coach, how
do you continually learn and develop? So you can, as
you say, get your teeth into it.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Well, I'll be fortunate to have plenty of opportunities and
all forms of crickets you sort of alluded to. You know,
that's just not an the men's space, that's also a
woman's cricket. You know, spend a head coach, staff, assistant specialist,
but also some franchise experience overseas. I think when you
when you put all that that coaching experience together and

(01:31):
then you throw on the max my playing background and
I suppose that the understanding or the empathy I'll have
for players going through most situations in the game, then
I think that's a nice mix of you know, of
what I can bring to the table. It doesn't mean that,
you know, just being a player equals a good couch.
I've still going to have the softer skills to be
able to get the message across and as I said before,

(01:53):
create those connections. But you know, I feel like I've
got a good enough base over a number of years
now for which i can launch from.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Yep, how do you judge our health the health of
our bowling bowling stocks?

Speaker 2 (02:06):
I think it's a lot better than probably some people think,
you know, after the last couple of years, with Boulty
stepping away, Wags last summer. You know, a couple of
guys in particular Lucky Firkson maybe've had a mel Troman
flying near trade now with franchise cricket, I think still
available for selection not but you know, doing more overseas.

(02:28):
I think people are a bit concerned. But honestly, there's
there's some talent coming through. I mean we've still got
some more experienced guys obviously Tim Southing, Matt Henry, but
you know the likes of Will O'Rourke and Ben Says,
just to name a couple. That there is talent there,
and there's young enough talent where you can forecast over
a number of years that the stocks will be okay.

(02:50):
Cole Jamison, for example, a couple of years ago, I
mean he was the talk of the cricket world. If
we can get him fitting on the field again, there's
some real depth there. And that's just to talk about
the theme. That's mean stocks are deep as well, and
thankfully those spinners can all back so in terms of
all round us as well, where we have plenty of
those options. So it's a pretty good time to be involved.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yeah. Look, you've actually just boosted, you know by saying
those running off those names when you go to the
Milns of Ferguson's, the Jamison's there, Rourks, the Sears.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
I think you're right.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
I think it is in good stock folk. Briefly, just
talk on another topic, just the changing of the talk
of having a franchised T twenty competition here. We've got
the sort of I guess that the moon lar to
have that happen.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Yeah, I saw that mentioned the other day somewhere. I mean,
I honestly have not had any conversations myself with anyone
of note, you know, to see if it's true or not,
or or actually potential or not. My first reaction is no,
we probably don't have the financial backing, but you know,
I'm not if you were to privatize and there's other investors,

(04:00):
third parties, you know, potentially even from overseas. You know,
I know the Dream eleven soop smash gets massive ratings
over in the subcontinent. So does that mean that we
are attractive for potential Indian backers. I don't know, but
I would suggest just looking at the surface. You know,
New Zealand's a small country and global cricket scale. I'd
suggest it would be tough work. But if you could

(04:22):
get some sort of overseas investment, some private packing, well
why not because it is at a good competition and
our national team's very consistent, so you'd like to think
we have some domestic depth to showcase as well.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Fantastic that is Jacob Worum there with us on the country, sport,
breakfast on gold and taking over the end. Really, you know,
as Jake said, you know you talk about the Milns
and the Fergusons and the Jamisons of this world. To
go with the current stock of the young guys Raw
and Seer is coming through. The stocks are looking pretty
healthy in that department.
