Speaker 1 (00:00):
Week four of nine of Bunning's nd PC and who
was certainly an action packed weekend of footy, kicking off
on Friday night with a huge come from behind when
for Southland, Dan Strawn joins us this morning.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Morning ANNs Morning BK. Welcome back mate. Could they hear
your dulcet tones again in the morning.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Yeah, nice to be back mate. How about that win
for the Stags.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Yeah, wonderful, wasn't it. I think to comments made a
commentary that you know, they've been a better side this year,
I mean more competitive in games. Even again they lost
against Talanaki, they showed some real respite in the second half.
Well of course the game of two halves and fray
was one of those. And yeah they just got momentum
in a second half and after impressive first half from Northland. Yeah,
(00:43):
they just flicked the switch and they deserve their winning.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
It was incredible to think they were down twenty six
to seven to come back and win.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Yeah. I think they just needed to get you know,
I mentioned who the coaches still get halftime about just
getting on your hands on the pearl, looking after the ball,
being more disciplined and just get the attacking systems going
and it's exactly what they did, and they stayed disciplined
to there for forty minutes and it was an impressive
seacond half performance and certainly one they can take confidence from. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Absolutely, And it was almost like the Otago match too
for Taranaki. That was another comfort behind win for the Nike,
wasn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Well, don't know how good Taranaki are, and of course
Otago twenty twenty four are much better version two. Almost
like this Daggs. You know they're going to be a
tough team to beat as well. So I thought when
they brought on Lenox and Jacob and that sort of
back into that second half, they kind of took a
little bit more control, but Tigo stayed in the fight
right to the end and it was a really close
(01:38):
win for Taranaki.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
One of the other games Counties Menica. They broke the
windless streak over North Harbor.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
It was a wonderful game to watch it at North
out of the stadium. You know, County started impressively, got
in front by a fair bit and of course Harbor
got back into the game and should have really closed
it one out. But this County's team looking for their
first win of the season. You do or die for
them and scored a wonderful try right at their back
end to win it. It's nice to see them get there.
(02:06):
Season underway.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
You got to ask the question, what's going on in
Auckland because they I don't think they've had a win.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yet, have they? No, they're owned four. A couple of
couple of things spring to mind bekase. You know. One
is obviously they're missing their halves double Fornaki has been
ruled out with a peck injury for the season. Of course,
Harry Plumber has been away with the All Blacks, so
you know nine and ten as we know, it's pivotal
for these NPC teams. But I just wind that, you know,
there's a lot of a lot of contracted super players
(02:33):
in this Auckland region, and you know, do they have
the drive and desire to really front up at EPC level.
You look at these other teams around the country that
are performing well, those boys are competing for super ruggy
spots and there's a big difference in terms of mindset.
So you know, I won't put it solely down to that.
I just wonder whether the real hunger is here, right
(02:53):
now and certainly the wins, they're struggling to get off
the off the mark, so it's disappointing really when you
look at it.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Yeah, one two white out of thirty nine twenty one
and we're a bit upset here in the Bay of Plenty.
Tasman beat us the Steamers thirty four to fifteen.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Yeah that was comprehensive, wasn't it. That Devon teams a
good side one of the three underfeated teams of course
with Wellington in Hawks Bay, yeah they follow in a
little bit of a tonic members The game started half
in hour late too with the power outage just come there.
But yeah, that Tessent team that Handy is the head
been for the last three or four years.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Yeah. And Canterbury I love that match at rang Your
at the showgrounds there, but Wellington were too strong for them.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah. Great to see these games, you know in the
rural outposts run you're a lovely region obviously in Canterbury
really dominant first time I think it was thirty one
another half time to Wellington, so Kennby showed a little
bit of metal when the singing half they came back
and scored two tries, but Ultimately this Wellington Lions team
one of the front runners.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
And Hawks by another one of the front runners, ain't
chalked up a winner over their mates through the Gorge
man or two.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Yeah, that was a great game too, actually, the sort
of close off the weekend. Manawatu played brilliantly in the
first half. It was quite a strong breeze they were
playing into, but scored four great tries in the first half.
But as Hawks pay have done all season, they kind
of absorbed pressure for a fair chunk of time and
then win. Takatava and mcclutchy and the rest of them
get rolling. Jennie Twala played really well as well yesterday.
(04:27):
They just find enough to get the job done and
of course it was a compy hitter win and the
end for them, and they remain I think at the
top of the table still yep, they are at.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
The top of the table indeed, so looking real good.
Willington the second Tasman Bay a pretty pretty close. We
look forward to some more action this week, so we'll
talk again real soon and thanks for joining.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Us, mate, cheers did you take care?
Speaker 1 (04:48):
And Strawn joining us here reviewing the weekend of Banning's
NPC on Gold, sport and the Country Sport Breakfast
