Speaker 1 (00:00):
And Live Action Motors Board Action to talk here with
Eric Thompson, New Zealand Herald columnist Eric morning.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Good morning, m K.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Are you very very well. Thank you. Nice to be
back in the hot seat. And we're watching an enthralling
second leg of the IndyCar race out of Milwaukee at
the moment.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Oh fantastic, And I can't believe that Dixon's in fourth.
I mean, yes, great to see Scott A. McLoughlin leading
race at the moment. But with Scotty Dixon and fourth,
considering he started down in sixteenth or seventeenth, I think
the K so he might look for for a good
points all but unfortunately, I think after his result yesterday

(00:39):
in race one of the double header of Milwaukee, I
think his championship chances are just about gone.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Yeah, but mclachlin's still with a sniff as well. So
one hundred and ninety five of the two hundred and
fifty laps remaining, I would imagine maybe's McLoughlin got another
pit stop yet or can he get to the finish
from now?

Speaker 2 (00:56):
From here, no, I think there's one more to go
for everybody is yesterday and Race one, everybody was trying
for a three stopper. They're all going it looks like
they were going for a four stop at this time,
but maybe Dixon might sneak in for it. Just stick
to a three. We all know what he's like with
his fuel conservation driving.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yeah, absolutely right, let's talk Formula one and talking about
one and two stop strategies. The one stop strategy paid
off for Ferrari.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
It really did. But what a start to that race, Buk.
I'm a bit confused, mate. Do you think McLaren are
actually trying to chuck this away? Well, the championship you'd have.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
To wonder, really, wouldn't you. I mean they were great,
they filled out the front row, weren't they the quick?

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Oh they're super quick the last three or four races.
But then again, I know they have this thing called
Papaya rules where you can race hard but as long
as you don't take each other out. But you sort
of thing you sort of think with Norris on a roll,
you know, munching into the staffins points championships, and also
you know they probably wouldn't have Constructors Championship McLaren because
they've just gobbled up Red Bulls huge lead. They had

(02:06):
six or seven races ago. But the thing is, you
don't really want to be trying to take each other
out on the fourth corner and then you let the
Ferrari sneak through. So I don't know what's going on there.
It doesn't seem Yeah, it's just weird. And then the
Zach Brown in an interview afterwards, was sort of touching
its straws that I would have thought, but.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Of course, and of course red Bull, I mean, what's
going on with the staff and he's been off the
podium now for a number of races.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah, Well, the thing is they bought some upgrades for
their car back in May and June, and the thing's
gone backwards ever since. Yeah, and there's sort of some
upgrades and they're really toused about them now. The entire
balance of the car has gone out the window qualifying.
You know, it's been pretty poor for both of them.
And well, the funny thing is Perez hasn't got any better,

(02:57):
but he hasn't got any worse, but the staff has
dropped right back, and he's saying in a post race interview,
he was saying that he reckons that they're going to
lose both championships by the end of the year, un
as they fix the car.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Well, all right, and any more news on Liam Lawson.
There's been a lot of stories floating around in the
last week or two about Liam. Will he stay at
Red Bull, will he be hired out to another team?
You had any more info on that?

Speaker 2 (03:21):
No?

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Nothing, And basically I've sort of stayed a little bit
away from it. Has been conjecture upon conjecture upon conjecture,
and you know, like we might have been at Williams,
but Red Bull didn't want him to go to Williams
if they couldn't haul him back in a race weekend.
So of course Williams aren't going to say, yeah, yeah,
we'll take Lawson. But you know, you guys can have
him back any.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Race weekend if somebody has gets hurt. But that young
guy Calipino the Argentina and he finished twelve, maybe Williams
now have two hot shots there. But the thing is,
I think maybe after Mexico, maybe they're just keeping Perez
in the car until I get through Mexico, you know,
because well the money and sponsorship and stuff, so that

(04:02):
maybe we'll get a go in the end. But if
I was Dawson made, I'll be sitting there scratching my head. Well,
actually this month a decision has to be made.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Yes, it does, Yeah, it does, indeed, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
And I feel sorry for Lawson and his team because
they're like just pigging the middle between Horner and Marco
and I think they're doing disservice to Dawson. But you know,
Lors is made of strong stuff. He's mentally very strong.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
So we'll watch the space and we'll rep with with
the European Rally Championship and a wonderful result for keyw
wee Hayden Padden on the weekend in Wales.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Oh man, that's fantastic. I was watching on Saturday or
early Sunday morning when he was leading it with a
day to go, and this morning it's come through probably
like you watching that. It's been fantastic for him.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Was it?

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Seven different winners in the championships so far consolidates his lead.
I reckon he'll defend that title. BK.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Well, there's only one round to go. And he finished
the Rally of Wales on tarmac, I might add, which
isn't his favorite service, a minute forty seven ahead of
his nearest competitor, Italian driver Andre Mabalini.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
I know, mate, and like you said, tarmac isn't and
Hayden's quite happy to put his hand up. It's definitely
not my favorite surface, especially when it's wet, and you
would have thought in Wales more likely or not it
would be pouring with rain and wet, but it wasn't
and he did really well.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Yeah, absolutely fantastic. All right mate, good to catch up,
plenty to talk about. We'll do it again sooner, would
love that.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
BK. Thanks for Chancellor Eric.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Thompson joining us to talk motorsport here on gold Sport
and a quick update of that Indian racer lap two
hundred and five of the two hundred and fifty and
they have Hurt now leads from McLaughlin, Rossi, Ferrucci and
Dixon now in fifth place overall. So lap two six
of two hundred and six of two hundred and fifty
