Speaker 1 (00:00):
There it's gun boots or rugby boots.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
The Country Sport Breakfast has you covered on Gold Sport
your home of live commentary twenty minutes after eight o'clock
here on the Country Sport Breakfast. It only seems like yesterday,
but it was back a couple of months ago that
George Dodson won the FMG Young Farmer of the Year
in Hamilton this year. Next year's has been announced that
in Vikargol is going to be hosting the FMG Young

(00:24):
Farmer of the Year Grand Final, joining us CEO of
Young Farmer Lindakofsmith Morninglander.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Good morning, exciting.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
News for Southland. How do you decide which region will
be hosting finals?

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Well, we have seven regions and each region takes turns
in hosting the region whether it's for the finals. So
and then we swap island every year as well. So
there's four regions in the North Island, three regions in
the South Island and we worked between the two islands
and swap region every year.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
So, as I said, it just seems like yesterday that
we had the Grand Final in Hamilton. So it all
rolls around pretty quickly, and I believe it's today that
entries open for next year's Young Farmer of the Year competition.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
That's right. We think it off in October Avenda with
our district level events, so that's opening event where all
of our members can sign up and have to go
and they do a series of modules there and the
top eight from each district goes through to Regionals, which
keeps off in February, March, April and then all back
into Grand Final again. So it's actually probably around about

(01:29):
fifteen events rather than just the one Grand Final that
we run all through the year.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
It seems to get bigger and bigger and bigger every year,
would that be right?

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Well, I think it's just we're growing in I think awareness.
Everyone knows what's going on, and we're getting more and
more crowds to the event, and the juniors, the Junior
Young Farmer of the Year and the aggriciates categories are
probably one of our most popular parts of the contest
as well, and they do lots of crowds and lots
of a witnesses. But so yeah, I think I just

(01:59):
love a great celebration of young people and.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
I guess out there in the regions where the young
farmers meet, you know, on a regular basis, there has
to be a lot of interest because I mean, the
prize pool is remarkable, isn't it That.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
There's nearly one hundred thousand dollars worth of prizes and
some of that self of it's good gear like Honda
bikes and new Holland tractors, So that that gets everyone
a bit excited when we keep working on making that
price believing bigger and better so that we get more
people wanting to come and have a go.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
So basically they just go online today if they want
to enter into either the Young Farmer or the Junior
or the Agricids.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yeah, pretty much. I think it's just we've just got
the seniors open at the moment because we don't start
the aggregates and juniors until next year. But this is
just the senior level, so Georgia's level Young Farmer of
the Year. That'll all be open today, and I encourage
everyone to get in earlier because we do actually have
a bit of a limit on number of people that
can compete in eat regions. Yes, so get in early,
don't miss your place.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
There we go, nice one, Linda Hay, thank you for
joining us, and it's going to be exciting again, another
exciting year.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Well done, Thank you, no you're welcome.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
CEO Young farmer Linda Coversmith joining a CSO. Entries open today,
as she said,
