Speaker 1 (00:00):
Whether it's gun boots or rugby boots.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
The Country Sport Breakfast has you covered on gold Sport,
your home of live commentary well joining us out of
a Rugby Heartland dot co dot nz. A bet it
does a great job covering the competition for us. Is
Kevin here morning, Kevin.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Good morning all. Welcome back. I hope you're will mate,
Oh totally. I mean, you know, it's hard to keep
up with all the scoring and all the action all
around the provinces every Saturday afternoon.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Heartland is so so exciting. And let's look at a
few of those scores that you've been trying to keep
up with them. Boy, there were some big blowouts recently.
I mean north Otago have a wided apple Bush what's
sixty nine to nineteen?

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Yeah, well, I mean crazy score, but not a crazy result.
I mean why apple Bush has only like beaten north
Otago six several times over the years. And you know
there was something at home in Mars than on the
artificial turf. You know, everything was looking good. They didn't

(01:04):
even show up. North Otago just literally blur them out
of the water in that first sort of thirty minutes
and wrath Bush just couldn't fight back and it was
a yeah. I mean the only benefit there was, ah,
can they get a try bonus? You know, but they
couldn't even dot the lot, you know, get the ball

(01:26):
over the line to get that. So yeah, they walked
away with completely nothing. And the North Otago and their
supporters who traveled up from Homaoru. So it's awesome to
see that happening because they came. They even came and
visited me, so there's a big shout out to the
North Otago Supporters Club. But they yeah, they enjoyed themselves

(01:47):
so and the weather was lovely and yeah, and the
Old Golds are back to their normal winning ways.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
And my hometown team, the wong Anui Boys, they smashed
Buller ninety one seven.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Yeah, it was a hard day at the office for
the Buller Boys. I mean really, I mean, you could
have wished for a better start of the year, could you.
They go up to Roratoria, they take off the bill
Osborne to honor off East Coast. They defended the following
week against King Country, only to sort of go down

(02:19):
in a high scoring match and then they had to
travel to Wanganiu with a few injuries. After that bill
Osbourne game in Westport, and well, all I can say
is highest ever scored by Wanganui ever, it's not one
hundred and thirty odd years the largest winning margin ever

(02:41):
for Wanganui against everyone ever, and that was so that
was they had surpassed the seventy seven that they got
against difference of seventy seven points against King Country in
twenty seventeen when they won eighty points to three. And
unfortunately the record that was broken was set in twenty

(03:02):
twenty two against Bailer eighty three seven. So now the
records are ninety one to seven, fifteen tries scored. Yeah,
it was just they were totally annihilated. That's the only word.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
Other than the powerhouse of South Canterbury. Can you see
either Thames Valley or wanganu he being their biggest challenges
for their fourth straight title. I mean Thames Valley requel
on three wins so far, Wanging we just lost one game,
so you know, can they challenge South Canterbury?

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Oh totally. I mean, I mean the big game you
know coming up this weekend is Wanging only playing Thames
Valley and that is of course a defense again for
the bill Osborne too. And that's going to be played
up in Thames, so that will give us a really
good look at how these major teams are going. So yeah,

(03:59):
but South campsas yeah, they're just a juggernaut. They won
one hundred and ninety ninths hand and shield last weekend
against Mid Canterbury, blew them off the park forty one
points to nineteen and so it was like, yeah, an
ash Burton in the wind, you know that horrible showgrounds

(04:19):
where blows yere two payoff. The thing is, yeah, South
Canterbury are just looking great. I mean the coaching team
and Nigel Walsh and co. Just celebrated with that win
their fiftieth game in the coaching box together. It was
their thirty fourth Heartland Championship win in succession. That's gonna

(04:42):
be a record that's going to be hard to break
us when they finally do lose it. But they've got
King Country this weekend in Geraldine. Unfortunately phrase a park.
The grass won't grow at their new stadium yet, so
they are traveling to Geraldine to play this man and
so they'll be I think a tough road for King Country.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Talking about South Canterbury earlier this morning, we caught up
with their CEO of South Candy with Tim Hyde. Smith
talked about the clash at eden Park against against ore Fenua.
How good for the competition? Did they get the opportunity
to play at Eton Park that's coming up on September
twenty second.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Yeah, awesome part of a triple header spearheaded in part.
I could argue by the Crusaders last year when they
had all three matches for the Crusader franchises in christ Church.
So it was a great idea all your cameras there.
Why not go back to back to back with Baro Partmer,
MPC and Heartland. First time since about two thousand Horror

(05:47):
Fanua have played up in Eden Park, but more importantly,
first time since nineteen seventy nine South Canterbury have graced
the turf at Eden Park when they played Auckland in
the First Division, unfortunately going down by forty two points
to three, so they'll be looking to turn that record
around and get a win on the turf up there.

(06:10):
But it is great. I just hope the crowds show
up for all three matches, including the Farah Palmer Cup,
which will be Auckland playing Hawks Bay Towy and Auckland
are playing South on that day, so you know you've
got some good, you know, grunty rugby to go and hey,
you know, maybe it's a playoff to see who's going

(06:32):
to replace Auckland in the MPC. Will it be harp
or is that what it is? It's a playoff relegation game.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
It could be really really interesting. Hey, Kevin, always always
great to catch up. I love talking Heartland rugby. It's
a great competition, Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Can I just add quickly?

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Sure, all right. The other game on this weekend is
West Coast playing Buller in Westport for the Rundel Cup.
Competition has been going for one hundred and twenty seven years.
It has currently been led by West Coast with one
hundred and six wins to Bullows one hundred and five.
There has been fifteen draws and just for those trains

(07:13):
follows out there, the average score in one hundred and
twenty seven years of this battle for the Rundle cut
Well twelve point two to three points to West Coast's
twelve point four eight. It's a differential of over one
hundred and thirty ideas of point twenty five points. If anyone,

(07:34):
any listener out there, knows of a closer Derby result
over such a period of time, letting you know, Oh, that.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Is incredible, that's incredible. That's a great coast battle that one. Kevin,
great chat mate. Have a great day.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Yes, thank you Kevin here.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Joining us Rugby Heartland, dot co, dot INDID. He is
the man with all stats, that's for sure.
