Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sport, the latest from the Land and just great rock.
It's the Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sport,
your home of live commentary. Fifteen away from eight o'clock,
we hit to Arthur Esh Stadium, Flushing Meadows now where
the Means Final is underway in the tennis joining us
on the grounds of New York. So Arthur sh Stadium,

(00:21):
our multimedia megastar Craig Gabriel, Sorry to interrupt this match, Craig,
good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Well, the only person that needs interrupting is Taylor Fritz
because he's in a major deficit against Yannick Sinner and
Sinner up six three, six ' four, it's one all
in the third set Center with a game point to
go up two to one. So I think there needs
to be of an bit of interruption for Taylor Fritz

(00:47):
over here if he used to make any sort of
play in a comeback with this match. But from what
I'm hearing on stats, the winner has the winner of
the first set at the US Urban Finals has gone
on to win twenty eight of the last thirty one
titles over here, so that is an omen maybe for

(01:07):
Janick Sinner.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
In a way, it's a little insider. We've got the
world number one playing the world number twelve, haven't we.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Yeah, but he's also been well inside the top ten.
He slipped out a little bit. It's not that Taylor
Fritz is in a situation where you know he hasn't
matched it with the best players in the world, because
he certainly has and he continues to do so. But
where the difference is is that he's never experienced something

(01:35):
like this, the final of a major, which is completely
different to any other final he would have played.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
And obviously in front of his home crowd as well.
Is that rattling in a weebit do you think?

Speaker 2 (01:48):
I don't think that is rattling him. I think I
think the fact that he may be feeling the effects
of that match against Francis tierf or the other night
could be having some sort of an effect on his
legs and his movement around the court. He's giving it
everything he's got, There's no two ways about that, and
no question but whether he can actually push himself a

(02:11):
bit more, And yes, I think take a few more
risks against Sinner and take risks and you're in danger
of errors.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
There's been a bit of talk about the conditions on court.
Is it very hot over there? I mean there's not
a lot of air that gets down to the players,
is there.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
No? I mean they do have these air conditioning tubes
on the sides of each of the player benches. I
haven't seen either of the players use that today. I
can tell you that today it has actually a beautiful day.
There was a bit of cloud now, but sunshine, and
when I left the hotel a couple of hours ago

(02:48):
it was a little bit brisk, so the temperature was
really very nice.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
All right, And let's talk yesterday's women's final third Grand
Slam title for world number two Arena Saba Linka beating
Jessica go to seven five seven five and winning your
first years.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Yeah, we're in a similar situation, really are we, because
we got a non American playing an American from yesterday
and today, the crowd certainly was behind Pagoula, and she
certainly gave it everything she had. There were some amazing opportunities,
great comebacks from her, but she just couldn't take the

(03:23):
next step to seal, maybe even the second set. She
was down love three in the second set, won five
games in a row, was serving for the set and
got broken and ended up losing the match seven five,
seven five. But let's give credit to Arena Sablenka. She's
been wanting this very very much as any player would.

(03:44):
But last year she was the losing finalist to Coco Golf,
so she was promising herself she didn't want to be
in that situation again. And now her third major title,
having won the Australian in the last two years, and
what she's done is book ended the Majors with the
Australian and the US and both and won the hard

(04:05):
court double. The off the Majors and.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Craig is just the last major of the season.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yes it is. You know, there's still plenty of tennis
to be played. I mean next week is Davis Cup week.
The week after we've got Labor Cup. Then there is
then the tour generally moves on to Asia, the Masters
one thousand, the role at Shanghai Masters in Shanghai in October,

(04:30):
then back into Europe Masters events in Paris, and you've
still got the year end championships men in Turin, women
in Riad and the Davis Cup final as well, so
there's still plenty to go. But as far as the Majors.
This is the last one. There's only four of those a.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Year, Wendy to keep you busy. Mate. Hey, we appreciate
your contribution. Thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Pleasure talk soon.
