Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on
Gold Sport.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Gentlemen today, what can had it for you?
Speaker 1 (00:08):
It's time to catch up with a friendly fruit or
David Stewart, who on a daily basis faces challenges all
the time, whether it's the arrival of vegetables or fruit,
or whether it's equipment packing up. You've had quite a week, David.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Morning, Brian. Yes, it's a very interesting few days. Our
main cooler packed up on the weekend and now have
you got any money so I could do it? So?
Speaker 1 (00:28):
And it's funny, you know, Fridges coolers, whatever it might be,
the always back up on weekends.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
I don't know how they're doing on Monday or Tuesday.
They know it's a weekend. We don't get anybody to
fix it, that's correct. And when you do bring them up,
you're paying the after hours money, the holy hell and
fifty bucks just to bring you up and talk to you. No,
I don't know how much is going to cost, but
it's a big deal. Four days of hastling and the challenges,
the challenges.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Of a small business, I guess, really, isn't it the one? Mate?
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yep?
Speaker 1 (00:56):
No problems with deliveries getting in.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
No, No, we just had to be very careful. Lucky
we got two other coolers. We put them temperature down
and jammed everything in and played around and running back
and forwards. The markets pick up stuff. But yes, has
been an interesting couple of days and.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
A very busy time for fruiter Is in the Bay
of Plenty, in particular with the Ames games here and
I guess you're sort of making deliveries to supply sandwiches
and food and stuff to them.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yes, the boys come back at the event, say, bloody hell,
I've never seen so many cars over there. There's a
lot of people, a lot of young people and a
lot of mums and dads. Oh yes, it's Jamms. It's
like Christmas again.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
There's something like twenty five thousand extra people in Taylonga
in the Bay region for this event, which is huge.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
And they're all over the mount.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Yeah, they are all over the mount. Great place to be. Alright,
let's talk about spring. I want to touch on asparagus.
The price is still reasonably high, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yeah, it's coming down there mate. You know, the weather
has been pretty good. It's growing and love's popping. Its
head out of the ground and looking around. Yep, yep,
but I'm ready to go, right, So by the weekend
you could nick down the five or six dollars a
bunch mark hopefully. So it's looking good and then next
week go to get better still. You know, it's just spring.
Things are going to grow and salads, salad, vegetables all good.
A lot of iceberg lettuce from Pokacui coming out, very
(02:04):
very reasonable prices in the supermarkets and in the green grossers.
Capsicums also coming down there, cucumbers, the tomato is the
only one on the salad. One. Avocados. There's lots of
avocados around to the cheap and the good too. Yeah,
tomato one, it's winter mate, and give it another two
to three weeks. The prices will get better. At the
moment they're a little bit high ish, but that will
get better. Yeah, you know that time you'll drop down.
(02:25):
Yeah they did right. Still the sort of the change over. Yeah,
green vegies, Broccoli a lot around, prices very very reasonable.
Cauliflower the same, so your green's got a good selection there. Salads,
you're right, the buds, the cameras, the pumpkins, all that's
cheap still apples fruit apples supplies the cheaper ones are
getting low. You know, we're into September now, same with
Kiwi fruit. Prices are moving up because volumes are down
(02:45):
in the cool stores. So those sort of things there.
But then you got yeah, some are coming around the corner. Mate,
you know, we'll be talking stone fruit co.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Well, it's just going to say, okay, we've sort of
seen the end of the apples and things like that,
but what are the fruits now going to come online?
Being to spring in summer?
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Strawberries, our local strawberries are starting October, so you're know,
only three to four weeks away from that, and then
you've got the stone fruit will come on in December, November, December. Yeah,
it's just as we progress through the year, good things happen.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Oh they do, indeed. Imported fruit and vegie.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yeah, I'll tell you what they is selling the Aussie
mandarins and racing out mate, raise kids over there them out.
They're eating a lot of those.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
That's good.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Bananassi mandarins and apples. Yeah, Ozsi strawberries are still good too,
lots around. Prices are very reasonable, so now it's not
too bad Aussi beans, but no cause it's local, cause
it's now. They're not cheap though, but that's okay. Asparagus
takes over and so does broccoli pop out, So now
it's looking good as usual.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
It's always swings and roundabouts, isn't every one there? We
