International rugby coverage on the Country Sport Breakfast is proudly
brought to you by Access Solutions, elevating you and your
business to a higher level. We're talking international rugby now
on the show where the Black Ferns will be making history.
It's coming Sunday morning. They'll go up against England at
Alliance Stadium, Twickenham for the very first time in their
(00:21):
storied history playing at Twickenham. We'll have a commentary live
here on Gold Sport from one twenty five on Sunday morning.
Joining us on the show this morning out of the
Black Ferns camp is Laila Sai Morning later morning, Let's
talk about how special it is for you guys playing
your biggest rivals in one of the sports all time
(00:44):
great venues Twickenham. How good is that?
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Oh, it's it's something unreal, pretty much like I don't know.
I don't think I ever thought that I would be
able to play in such a big stadium, in such
a big game. Yeah, it's very exciting.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
You've just chalked up I think seven tests to your
name debuting last year. How was a step up to
international rugby from playing I guess in New Zealand.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
It's been a good step up. I've really found my
feet in my second year in the team. It's very competitive,
that's what you want in an international team, but it's
the level I want to be and yeah, I've loved
every part of it.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
How long have you guys been in the UK for
bake three days and you're justing okay, Well, what of
the weather conditions like over there back end of the
English summer.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Well, the first day we got here was pretty humid,
which I was not expecting. But it's not too too bad,
not too too hold or too cold. It's just right,
I think.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
But yeah, fantastic. Well I hope it's going to be
like that on Sunday morning. So Leila, what were some
of the big challenges stepping up to international footy for you?
Speaker 2 (02:01):
I think just finding the nothing around the team or anything.
It's just finding the confidence in yourself and being like, Okay, yep,
I'm supposed to be here. I'm in the team for
a reason. But I think with the more games and
the more times we have camps together, I'm just finding
within myself like yep, I deserve to be here. And yeah,
I just really proud of where I've come from my
(02:22):
first game to now and how.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
I'm playing training this week, WATS coach Allan Bunting been
working you guys hard on.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Nothing too hard out. I think we've done all the
work I'm preparing up to the game. So we've just
done a lot of preparation for this week, so there's
nothing new coming in. It's just getting reps in on
lots of things and just backing ourselves and having the
freedom to do what we are out there to do really,
(02:53):
which is to put on a performance and back ourselves
and win.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Since since yes, of course, since and the Black Ferns
played last, which was I think the World Cup final
in twenty twenty two, England have gone on to win
three consecutive Women's Six Nations titles and the favorite team
to retain the WXV one title. So what does this
England squad do so well that the Black Ferns are
(03:18):
going to have to look out for.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
I think they're just strong bore carriers. But you know,
we've come a long way from the last time we've
played them. We're putting a lot of hard work behind
the scenes, so we're ready to take up the challenge.
And yeah, just give them a good challenge this time around.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
When the schedule came out a we while back, was
this the one that we'll circle to say, hey, we
need to kick off our season well and win this one.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Yeah, of course. It's always a big rivalry between us
two nations, so it'll be a good one, and we've
worked really hard leading up to it, not just from
last year's World XV as well, so it'll be a
good one.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Back home here lately, we've been amaged to keep up
to date with your man or two team five I
think from five to start the Fara Palmer Cup. Looking good,
aren't they.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yes, of course I've been keeping up. I'm still in
the Cyclone's tet. I see what's going on. Then I
keep updated on Facebook and Instagram, and yeah, I'm really
excited for what they can do on the semis this weekend.
And yeah, really proud to come from such an awesome
team as well.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
