Speaker 1 (00:01):
We're talking Buddings a warehouse n PC. Now on the show,
we're round six finishes up tonight with the one or
two Turbos hosting the Southland Stags live here on gold Sport.
We'll have a commentary just after seven. Joining us on
the CSB This morning out of the Southland Stags. Josh
Becker this morning.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Josh, good morning. I think you let me off.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Oh absolute pleasure mate. I've got to say, first off, congratulations,
thirteen seasons with the Stags, one hundred and thirty three
in PC games, the most capp player in the competition history.
Well done.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Yeah, thanks mate. I was pretty stoked to get to
that milestone. Or was a good occasion down on a
V cargo and yeah we celebrated it to there we
come and get the one.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
But yeah, did they surprise you with that celebration on
Friday night when you were running on for Canterbury against Canterbury.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yeah they did. Oh, just they put the posts out there.
They're obviously pretty good before their numbers and the crew
specially budding. So you know, I had a few guys
come up to me before the game when he had
stripped and stuff like that, and just say congratulations. I
was like, oh, you know what a full lot? You
know most capitals like oh that's awesome. So yeah, yeah,
after that, celebrated with people was great.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
It's amazing. Really, How special is it that you you
were born and bred in south and played for Southern
Boys High and you've you've played all your career in
the NPC in front of friends and family at Rugby Park.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Oh yeah, I've loved it. You know when I when
I overseas, I always wanted to come back and play
and run out of Rugby Park game with the marin Jersey.
So there's been a big driver in my career and
they've looked after me since I was at a young
age coming out of Southern Boys High School and I
was lucky enough to playing some good players along the
way that really meantored me. So a lot of a

(01:50):
few of those players that played a lot against themselves.
So that's just been the mondseet for me.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Who's who's been your biggest mentor is the already one
that stands out?

Speaker 2 (02:00):
I'd say for m PC, Jason Ruleige. He has most
games were pull Southland and he's up there for a
lot of games for NPC as well. And you know,
when it comes to the Holanders and above, Brad Paorn
was really good mental for me looking up to my
body the way he was really professional around that. So

(02:20):
I tought that and at a younger age probably you know,
ten years ago from now. But yeah, everybody pushed me
along and is.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
The body held together? Okay?

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Mate? Uh? Yeah, Well I haven't had any major surgeries.
I've been pretty lucky. You know. You always have a
little Nichols throughout the season and it sort of managing
them and ahead of them. That's sort of I feel
like I've been pretty good at so you know, I
do feel a little bit a bit more my older years,

(02:50):
but you know, I'm I'm sort of young at hard
and just keep going. So yeah, that's just the mindset,
just keep going through the season, play well.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
And you overseas as well. You played a couple of
seasons in France and in Japan. How are those experiences?

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Oh? I loved it. I went I was shut the
Blues and went straight to Leon played for Le lou
there at the top fourteen. They had just got into
their competition there and it's just beautiful over there, you know,
coming from Southland, hadn't been overseas very often. Just to
be over in the middle of Europe traveling around for
thirty six months playing rugby was great. And then I

(03:26):
moved on to onto Japan for four years, just after
a two year contract there, and just the culture was
just really good and good quality rugby there too. Had
to be quite fast and get used to guy's tackling
diving at my knees.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
All right, let's talk about the season todate for Southland
two wins, four losses, but with a win tonight, a
top eight spot is still on the cards. So what's
been spoken about by the coaching team for tonight's game.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
You know, we know that it's going to be a
really tough game tonight. Both teams really desperate for a win.
One or two are going to come. They w aiming
at this game. So we need to be on on point,
not changed too much, but just get everything right that
we'd try to work on throughout the season, and just

(04:16):
we're lucky enough to have a couple of wins. Just
a few of those other games, I think we just
went away from our game plan. I think if we
get it right, we could do well.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
On the other side, of the field. As you mentioned,
the Turbos have been leaking points in the last couple
of weeks. So what are you going to have to
watch out for there? What do they do well that
you'll have to be careful about.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
I think they're a very strong team and they have
a lot of buzzed back so I think you know,
we can't pay them for granted at all. They are
They have a lot of X players. Expect the players.
It's really dangerous with the balls, so we have to
be on with our defense, our one on one tackles.
And they also had a really good start as well,
so you know they we need to be on.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Early really being storm week, it's Auckland and Eden Park
on Sunday for you guys as well. So after the
game in Palmerston North, will you will you head to
Auckland or head south and fly back up later in
the week.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
We'll stay up here and then we'll filand and then
we'll head on you know, just depending on who's staying
and going back home. But we'll train up in Auckland
and get ready for that game. But it's it's the
best best time of forty where when you just have
three games in one week. You don't train too much,
so you know, we really enjoy this weekond it's good
to get away before of a good crew of fellas.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
And Josh showing at the age of thirty eight, you
got any plans on hanging the boots up anytime soon?

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Yeah, it's funny. I'll get I'll get to ask quite
a bit, just at the At the meantime, I'm just
going to game a game and just focusing on that,
and then I'm just going to have a think with
my family at the end of the year and and
then and see how the body feels. It made the
decision then, but at the moment, it's just you know,
feeling I'm feeling no help goes out on the field

(06:01):
and see how the next four games go.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
All right, fantastic Josh, quite a record. Congratulations once again
and go well tonight.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Really appreciate it. Thanks for having me on
