Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the sports field to the shearing shed. It's the
Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sport. We're
talking cricket now on the show where tickets are now
on sale to j Sea Cricket Nation members for the
summer of cricket and I'm looking forward to it. We've
got England coming here, We've got Sri Lanka and we

(00:20):
have Pakistan for the men and of course for the
white ferns. We've got Australia Sri Lanka and in Australia
again as well joining us this morningish morning.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Ish, morning, bro.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
I suppose you're a little frustrated. You'd probably like to
be on the sub continent playing, would you, Yeah, totally right.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
I mean, you know, as a leagu'sman, have grown up
in New Zealand light you know, conditions aren't really in
your favor. So you get over there and you get
some spinning wickets. So a bit of a shame to
be wintering here.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
When was the last time you had a game of cricket.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Oh, it's been a while. It was at the T
twenty World Cup. I did get a couple of bites
to go overseas during the winter but they were quite longtince,
so I thought the best thing to do was to
stay home, be your father for a bit and work
on my stock leg break delivery.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
And is that coming out? Okay?

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yeah, it's coming out and nice at the moment. I mean,
you know, it's been a big focus for me on
red bull bowling in this last little winter period, which
I think really aids my white ball cricket as well.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
So do you prefer the white or the red? Naturally,
I think.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
I prefer white ball cricket because that's been the most
of what I've played over the past few years and
that's the one that feels the most comfortable in my hand.
But I think as a purist, I love Test cricket,
I love first class cricket, so the red ball definitely
sticks out at number one.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Well, let's talk about the New Zealand summer of cricket
because it's pretty exciting really. First off, we have England
touring here.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Yeah, I think you know, it's going to be amazing
to have England touring here again. The Barmy Army always
come out in full swing. It's a great atmosphere out
the grounds, especially the one at Hagley just plugging in
Canterbury cricket there.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
How good. Yes, it's pretty.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Exciting to have them here, especially playing the brand of
cricket they're playing. I think there's definitely going to be
three results in those three Test matches.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Yeah, christ Church, Wellington and Hamilton in front of it,
as you said, in front of the Armi Army. If
you played in front of the Barmi Army.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
I have I catch myself sort of humming along to
their tunes on them out there in the middle. And
you know, there's such a supportive group of people that
follow England cricket around all over the world. I love
playing cricket in England. It's like there's that history behind
it and the Barmi Army sort of bring it wherever
they go to.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Okay, so we've got England, we'll tick them off. They're
only they're not playing any of the t twenties or
the Odieyes, but Sri Lanka followed them. We've got to
match two matches actually have Odi Eyes and TALONGA one
and Nelson, so that'll be a good series too. Yeah,
totally right.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
You know, slightly bigger grounds there as well, and potentially
some slower tracks. So you know, hopefully all things going well,
if I get a chance to go and go and
play in some of those, it'll be really exciting to do.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
So T the T twentyes, Sri Lankan playing really Sri
Lanka are playing really well at the moment. I mean
they're coming off a few good results, aren't they.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah, they've been fantastic over the last week while they've
got a really good Test side, which hopefully we see
on show over the next couple of days if the
rain stays away. But in white Wall cricket, they play
a lot of T twenty cricket all around the world
and so they've got some real superstar players that they're
going to bring over here and they're definitely going to
be a big challenge.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
And of course then it's Pakistan March of next year.
Pakistan are going to be here for an ODIEI in
a T twenty series and that's going to be a
tough series, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
It always is against Pakistan, you know, that always seem
to have bowlers that it can bow one hundred and fifty
kilometers an hour and bad as they can hit the
ball for sixth from War one, so huge challenge against
Pakistan and you know it always is and they will
definitely bring one of their best teams over.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
As a bowler and a batsman, which team do you
prefer playing against? I mean there's some pretty good teams
out there. Oh I know.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
I mean, like, you know, prefer playing it. So I'm
not sure you know if the right answer is prefer
playing against, but I do. I do love playing against Australia,
just you know that old sort of romance of like
the Chapel Hadley series, you know, growing up and watching
all those, you know as a kid. When you get
a chance to, you know, play, especially in New Zealand
against the Green and the Gold like it's and the

(03:58):
crowd gets behind you and it's always choker. It's definitely
really exciting. And hopefully the crowds turn out for the
White Ferns over the summer, having Australia here twice too,
so that'll be really exciting.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Yeah, absolutely so they here in December as well for
the White Ferns. Is there a fair bit of band
are out there on the on the pitch when the
Aussies are playing, you know, you're bowling and there's a
couple of Ossie Batsmen.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
There definitely, but I reckon the banter starts to come
from the crowd more more so, like you know, a
couple of beers on the Bank and Hamilton, like it
can be pretty hostile and it's it's definitely pretty pretty
entertaining if you can sort of, you know, shy away
from a couple of beer cans being thrown.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Absolutely. I have all those wonderful grounds around New Zealand,
Hagley Oval and Christchurch, the Basin and Wellington, Hamilton, Bayoval.
What's your favorite?

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Ah? I mean, I love I love the traditional crewk grounds,
I love Bayoval, I love Hagley and I love the
Basement Reserve. I mean, if I was to pick one
out of the three a Test win at the Basin Reserve,
I think you can't.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Go past fantastic wells. Thank you for dropping by. We're
looking forward to the summer of crick and of course
while the team's over there on the subcontinent will look
I've forward to some great results as well. Thank you
so much.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Cheers Ron, thank you mate.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
It's so to joining me here in the studio this morning.
So tickets on sale now for the Inn Dead Cricket
summer schedule. As I said, it kicks off November twenty
eighth December second in christ Church. It's against England. These
are Red Bull games. Then it's December sixth to tenth
and Wellington, and then December fourteenth through eighteenth in Hamilton.
It's the first of the summer Sea
