Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sport, the latest from the Land and just great rock.

(00:03):
It's the Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on Gold Sport,
your home of live commentary.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Hopefully we go John Norman Beck on a reliable phone line.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
John, good morning, yep, good evening to you. Hopefully it
will second time, lucky. Hopefully the phone gremlin stay away
for the next five minutes or so.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
We were talking when we did lose the line about
England beating Australia in limited overgame.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Yeah, it's been quite a while since England's white ball team,
certainly a home have been underdogs, but that's been the
case of this series. England have been so so strong
in fifty over and twenty over cricket. The Owen Morgan,
Jason Roy, Johnny Bestow, Josh Butler days or Butler still
around the space, but of course coming up against the

(00:50):
world champions, a team that have won something like fifteen
games in a row coming into today's game. But it
was down to one of the play that England have
really hung their coats on. Harry Brooke, who has performed
so well in test cricket, is standing skipper for this
series because Josh Butler's injured and he stood up.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
You know.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
It came to the crease with England eleven for two.
Three hundred and five was a target on the bowlder
friendly pitch. Australia batted really well to get that far
and alongside will Jack's another of the young guard. They
put on one hundred and fifty six for the third
wicket and Brook was still there when the rain came
one hundred and ten. He's become the youngest man to
score a fifty over century for England as well. So yeah,

(01:37):
did what he needed to do, lead from the front
and still an asked for England to win the series,
but that's kind of not what this is about. So yeah,
two one with two to play. But it was a
fantastic knock from Harry Brook today.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
And the fourth ode I I did Lord's on Friday,
isn't it.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
That's right? Yeah, Homer cricket on Friday. I don't know
if you saw today, but they've been outsair ticket pricing
for the next year a few weeks ago. Might been
when you're on holiday, actually became I'm not sure, but
essentially there was a lot of criticism about the Lord's
and the Oval actually that the ticket pricing for Test
cricket in this country it's so far removed from what
you get in New Zealand it's untrue. But essentially there

(02:16):
was very little crowd for Day four of the Lord's Test.
So the powers that be came out said they're going
to have a little think about it for next year
to make sure it doesn't happen again. Well, you can
get a ticket for one hundred and seventy five pounds
for Day three is one hundred and fifty pounds. So
it's three hundred dollars for a day's cricket at Lord's
on Day four against India next year. So it doesn't

(02:39):
seem like they've learned too many lessons from what happened
this year.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Three hundred dollars and these times too, we're inflation is
a big problem for everybody.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Well exactly. I mean, look, when I'm in New Zealand
and I want to go and watch some cricket, it
costs me a fraction of that. I could probably pick
up a ticket for about thirty dollars. You know, that's
fifteen pounds. But it just shows, you know, that's the
market forces that play here. And I suppose you know
the ECB or those that make the decisions about ticket

(03:09):
pricing will say that India, who are the visitors next year?
Are you know, a premiere side? And essentially people are
going to pay those kind of prices.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
M time will tell on that one. Hey, let's talk
forty we haven't done that today. The incredible Manchester City
and Arsenal game and the injury problems affecting City.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Yeah, well it was one of the most incredible games
of football on Sunday would have been in the middle
of the night where you are. But I'll tell you
what it was worth getting up for Arsenal two one up,
going into the break only to have a man sent
off and then parking the bus Jose Mourinho style for
much of the second half, only for Jos John Stones

(03:49):
to break Arsenal Heart's a ninety eighth minute equalizer. But
what a brilliant game. You know, the two best teams
in the league. Liverpool of course would probably argue that
point and all square at the YT he had. But
the big big story coming out of Manchester today is
that rodri you know, one of the key players within

(04:09):
their side, looks like his injuries knee injury that he
picked up during the game may rule him out for
most of the season. You only have to have a
look at the win loss ratio at Manchester City when
Rodri plays as opposed to when he doesn't to say
that that may be one of the biggest moments in

(04:30):
the title rights and possibly Arsenal's biggest chance have actually
finished off top of Manchester City for the first time.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
All right, there we go. Well, great to catch up
and finish our week conversation from an hour ago. So John,
have a great week and we'll talk next week.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Yep, looking forward to it. And greetings to all your
listeners over there in New Zealand.
