Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the cricket field to the cow shed. It's the
Country Sport Breakfast with Brian Kelly on gold Sport Yes,
joining us out of Farm Advisors and Egg Safe New
Zealanders Jim for the Late Morning.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Jim and good morning Brian.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
On the back of Mental Health Awareness Week and the
rural sector really is important, isn't it having a week
like this, but every day should be the same.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Absolutely, it's something that needs to get highlighted, probably more
than once a year's but yeah, it's a pretty It
can be a very lonely job out there on the farm,
and you know, you get financial pressures on you, you
get all sorts of things around. You can get shortages
of feed, you can run out of production and things
that all sort of really grind away at them and

(00:43):
they really need someone to talk to, somewhere to go,
and the Mental Health Awareness Week really reminds them all
that there are places out there to be available for support.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely, indeed under so much pressure already talking
about pressures, how the market's looking. What happened this past week.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Right will the eighteen kg yxlam that we look at
has moved up in both the North and the South,
Island and it's up to seven twenty in the north
and seven eighty in the south. Twenty one kgmx smut
and the steady at three dollars in the north and
three in the south. The P two steer, the two
seventy to two ninety five kg steer is six seventy
five in the North and six thirty five in the

(01:22):
South Island. The one sixty to one ninety five kg
bona cow is five dollars in the North and four
forty five in the south, and now two seventy to
two ninety five kg bull is six fifty in the
North and five eighty in the south. The sixty kg
stag is steady at eight to fifty five in the
North and eight seventy five in the South. But the
good news has already been about the dairy payout and

(01:42):
things this last week, and you know, the farmers already
sort of pretty excited about it. There's n nine dollars
now in the front of the midpoint from the Fonterra payout,
and they've got their seven dollars eighty three plus fifty
five cents dived in for their twenty twenty three, twenty
four seasons. So all that's really very very good news
for the farmers, Brian.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
And as you said in your news Leader, the dairy
industries now probably going to lift the country out of
for a session again.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Oh it's bound to, you know, when I didn't go
through some of the payments that the farmers are going
to be getting through October, in particular when they get
their final which is about twenty eight cents of kg,
and then the increments that are in there for the
moving up towards the nine dollar payout. There's going to
be some very very big payments come out to the
farmers in November and October. Sorry, but they're going to

(02:29):
have to be very careful if they don't just go
and buy too many youths and too many tractors. But
they're certainly going to be able to help pick start
the economy in a very very nice way just before Christmas,
we hope. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Absolutely. The weekly rant this week it's all about me, Saane, isn't.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
It it is? Brian. We're hearing a lot about how
much money the industries are having to spend on methane
research and really it's to me, it's a load of
nonsense and one of the things that we've I've picked
up out of some papers by some of the world's
leading scientists in this area is that if you look
at the distance between Auckland and la Airport, it's ten thousand,

(03:06):
four hundred and ninety six kilometers, and the amount of
methane that's in the atmosphere, which is point zero zero
zero one eight percent, would be nineteen meters of that
ten or ten and a half thousand kilometers. And we
look at, you know, the increments and things that can
happen in it, and the warming is going to be

(03:27):
sort of one degree point one of a degree celsius
maybe over one hundred years. Well, you know, how well
could you ever measure point one of a degree change
in the whole world's temperature things? It's quite amazing.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Brand Yeah, I mean, there's a lot of interesting stats
in there. We're having enough time to go over them,
but it's it's well worth a read. So well done,
Jim with you with your weekly rant. Nice to catch
up again, mate, have a good one.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
It's good. Thank you, Brian, and goodbye to the listener.
