The Country Sport Breakfast has your covered on Gold Sport,
your home of live commentary talking netball. Now on the
show where England have clinched the Tiny Jamison Trophy Netball
series opener with a thriller fifty nine to fifty eight
win over the Silver Ferns in Auckland. The first three
quarters were each decided by just one point margin, with

(00:24):
a fourteen all final quarter seeing England hold on to
their lead from the third quarter. Joining us on the
CSB This Morning, assistant coach Debbie Faller, probably with no
fingernails left.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Morning, deb Good morning, Brian. How are you look?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
I'm god more and botly how are you? You would have
been on the edge of your seat.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Yes, it was one of those games what I call
it an arm rental game because it just went back
and forth to from one set of pressure to another.
I think you've got to give credit with credits true,
and you know England shoot has shot one hundred percent
in that last in that whole second half, so they
were very hard to break and we let up defensive

(01:03):
pressure which kind of gave them some space to make
easy decisions. Easy ball and conversely they you know put
us under the pump and our attack end as well.
So you've got to look at the fact that come off,
you know, a big build up, so we've met them
at a time of their campaign where they are really

(01:24):
polished and we just you know, getting started. Even though
that's not an excuse, but it's it's something that you've
got to put into the context of things you.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Would have known going into that game that you know,
they came off that series against Australia, you know, match fit,
raring to go. So you know, I think what you
achieved is fantastic.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Yeah, I think it was wonderful to see the athleticism
of Grace compete with to Do from England, who is
just again a massive athlete in the air. It was
wonderful to see those skills. It was really good for
our people and the ones in our defense and call

(02:06):
Agel with deflect shots of you know, Hausby and the
shooter who were you know, they were on point right
throughout the game. So and then it was great to
get the two deputants on Claire O'Brien and Paris Mason
went on and looked like they had been here before,
so that was really exciting for the growth of the
Silver earned.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
A special night for them and their families. Were you
impressed with how they how they performed.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
It looked we had some really good training games putting
into it and Paris Mason has got a competitive edge
that she just loves expluencing defensively on court. And Claire
O'Brien is is quite different. She has a real calmness
and she has a real fin car on attack and
she looks for the space and she's a very creative

(02:52):
wing attack. So it was wonderful to see the NBA
able to go out there and express themselves and not
feel that they had to do a whole other things
to try and make things work.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
First test since January, and that also was a one
goal loss against England. I mean you, as the coaching team,
were the first hit out in almost eight months. You
would have been recently pleased with that, though, yeah, I.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Think we were. Look, the playing group has come and
we've only had one camp, so we haven't had much
time on the floor to work with the players. But
the time that we have had the intent of the
group and their I guess their ability to be able
to take on the game plan which forces them to

(03:36):
play with formation and with each other in a way
that they probably don't have the luxury of doing in
club competition and the A zs. So it was great
to see that step up. And I really do think
and believe the intent of the playing group and the
competitiveness and the growth were just kind of at the start.

(03:57):
We're in the starting block, So we've got three more
tests now to prove how fast we can learn, how
much we can adapt, and how much more get pressure
we can pour on England.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
There the second test Wednesday night. So what what are
going to be the key work on heading into into
game two?

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Deb Yeah, I think you know, we took too much
ball contested by England, so that means often you as
a taking player, you go with one lead. So we
need to actually do more movement off the ball before
we receive, and defensively we just well called lead up
so they would give the ball and we let up

(04:34):
space or we let up passing windows for them to
go to. So we really just it's not too much
in terms of what we need to tweak as a
playing group. And I know that with this group that
everything you know, we've built a core group of players
that know what it takes to compete at the international level.

(04:56):
So I think that you know comes and stay will
definitely sharpen those areas. And it's not like we have
to reinvent anysing. So we're going to keep the confidence,
keep the belief and what we're doing and what we
want to see is ouron showcase for ex Factor.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Absolutely all right, well, good luck, look at lookout England.
The silver Ferns are coming to get you on Wednesday night. Debbie,
thanks for joining us.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
