Kevin here morning, Kevin.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Good morning, Brian, how are you today?
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Very well? Thank you heading into the final round this
coming weekend. But before we look at that one, let's
look back at some of the games from last weekend.
Or kicked off with Buller and Mid Canterbury. Mid Canterbury
too strong.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Yeah, only game I dropped this week. I was hoping
the Buller boys might have done the upset, but yeah
no they Mid Canterbury picked up the first one in
about twenty years over there at West Sports, so they'll
be happy campers. The early game it was one third,
so though, were eager Beavers to get back over to
Ashburton for next weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Absolutely long we knew he had a huge win for
Horror Final A Cup Aye seventy two, twenty six.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Twenty eight and oh well they have another Milo Yeah, no,
the yeah woman know he I mean love At three
hundred and sixty six points now for the season, that's
almost one hundred points more than the Mighty Green and
Blacks of South Canterbury. Their carving it up at the moment.
(01:28):
Excuse the pun for the Butcher Boys, but they did
let Harfon in for a try bonus in that game,
which even though Harphono had dropped down the table a
little bit, that helped them out a tad a little
bit closer.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
In the North Otago King Country game, full time for
there who went to King Country thirty two to seventeen.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, crazy game this one. There was only about five
minutes ago and King Country were actually leading eighteen seventeen.
But there was, Yeah, so there was. And I was
a master until the day and so I'm waiting for
this final result to come through and the's still no result.
I got from mastered them to Faerston on the road
(02:13):
before the result came through. So it was it was
a major injury and I hope the players okay. But
it ended up being King Country sixty two seventeen. So
two quick tries here. North Otago did pick up a
yellow card. I think it was due to that injury
being caused. But yeah, they just capitulated their north Otago
(02:35):
in that last four minutes, which really boosted Meats Cup
chances for King Country with the try bonus.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Big win for the Swamp Foxes tams Belly another seventy
point game, seventy one seventeen over Poverty Bay.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Has anyone told them they playing rugby and not cricket
and I've had I mean eighty four, seventy one, one
hundred and five or whatever it was. Yeah, but no,
unfortunately Poverty Bay. I mean, they're the hard luck story
for me this year. I've got five bonus points. I've
lost four games by less than seven points. And at
(03:13):
this moment there were there seasons wheund I think twenty
thirteen and fifteen when they only had one win from
eight games. They are staring aer to eight season down
the barrel for the first time, which will make life
interesting this weekend. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
In the other two games, East Coast beaten by South
Canary thirty two to fifteen.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Five all halftime. East Coast threw it at them fifteen
twelve to East Coast was about twenty minutes to go.
What are we going to see here in eleven to
one upset against the champions. No ended up, but South
Calibreeden must have finally got the message from Nigel Walsh
and they celebrated the opening of the new Fraser Park
(04:00):
style which had the audacious sum or auspicious occasion of
one Colin Hawk kicking the blowing the whistle for the
kickoff for the game. So I thought that was a
really nice touch.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, As you said, you were in Masterson
White an Apple Bush in West Coast and that was
a close game, wasn't it? Thirty eight thirty one?
Speaker 1 (04:21):
It was? And tongue and cheek. You know, I've got
a full in both camps here and I just wanted
to go to a drawer, but I know we can't
have them. And I said, oh, well, why are Rapple
Bush to win by golden point three points? Well it
was twenty four or five at halftime to West Coast
and I thought, well, I think I'm going to get
a golden point here blink thirty won all and with
(04:42):
about ten minutes ago, and why are Apple Bush got
the charge down and got the go ahead to go
thirty eight thirty one? And then West Coast came back
again and I thought, oh, I'm just thinking I've got
to drive back to Oneton from the Test match. But
no they they tossed it up West Coast in the
end and I breathed a side of relief. I got
(05:05):
the win, which keeps then, believe it or not, in
the Haaw Cup semi final possibilities because now they've got
a quarter final against East Coast and Rotoria.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Yeah, that'll be an absolute cracker. So I guess there
are still spots to play in both the Meads and
the Lahaull Cup playoff spots with fine around this weekend.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
Yeah. Well, basically with the games that we're coming up.
As I just mentioned, East Coast are in eighth place
in wire Rappa, Bush Are and Knight fifteen points and
twelve points respectively. So pretty much the winner here will
be in the Waw Cup semi final. Then it will
be who are they going to be playing. They're going
to be Keen Country, West Coast will Hire Fanilla, so
(05:47):
but Mid Canterbury will just go down the list in order.
Mid Canterbury they're currently on fourth of our host in
Poverty Bay. Now this could be the one where King
Country fans will be hoping that probably availble get off
the dark because you know, I win here will just
basically lock out King Country. A loss here will mean
(06:07):
that King Country will need to go to Cook's Gardens,
not only when the bill Osborne Ponga, not only when
the pine Tree log, but also take four or five
points off Wanganii and get that fourth place in the
Meads Cup. If not well, they'll be hosting a walk
Cup semifinal in Tikuity. West Coast. They get the honor
(06:30):
of having a crack at the South Canterbury and Graymouth
for the Culpit Trophy, and I win there for West Coast.
If they can get a win that that was solidify
a home semi final for them, which, as I said earlier,
if ire apple Bush got up over East Coast, we
could have a repeat of last year's semifinal from Marsden
(06:53):
in Graymouse this time. And who else we got there.
We've got Thames Rawdy hosting horofanillaty at back for the
any and and then just painful Pride. We've got North
O'targo taking on Bulla at Homaru, which will be a
great match because they can't make anything, but it should
(07:15):
be just a good old ding dong battle between the
two sides.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Kevin, appreciate your your input and your passion. Will talk
again next week. We'll see who makes those those playoffs fantastic.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Bring it on.
